I've got a couple of hours left in my 2nd book. First book was good, but part of an ongoing series I've been enjoying so no big surprise. 2nd one I'm liking so far, but discovered after I started it that it's serialized, so will need to read 2 more books to get the whole story - and it's got a strong mystery/suspense theme, so I'm sure I'll feel the need to finish sooner rather than later. Maybe I can make them work for one of our remaining tasks...

Review:

This was such a fantastic romance. Great characters, lots of tension, lots of emotion. Just sucks you in right away and makes you care about the characters and want to follow their story. I think Naima Simone always does a great job with her characters, and Tennyson and Dom are no exception. I really like how the two of them aren't just in the same friend group, but are actually best friends with a long history, and the depth of their friendship is clear in the story. A really well done friends to lovers story.

Both of these books have the same exact published date and match the 'First Published July 22nd 2012' date at the top of the page.

Chan, the only thing I can figure is that the version you used says 3rd edition and the one Kat referenced says 2nd edition. Neither is 1st edition obviously, but even though the dates are the same hers is listed as an earlier edition.

Thanks for doing the research! I "know" more of the people in the first one you listed (team 3, not team 4...we're team 4 😁), but I'm sure I'd have no trouble finding something on any of them. Team 7 only has 3 members though, so potentially less to choose from...

The last time i went by editions and used the 1st edition, the 3rd edition had an earlier date than the 1st edition 😂. it was weird, Kat and I had a good laugh about it.

I'd say let's go ahead and make the decision to go with team 3 then. Between them they have a ton of variety, and I think they all read at least some historical, which we know is a safe genre for all of us so I'm sure Liz and Courtney will be able to find something that works for them.

Yay!! I've found a couple of options, but I'm waiting until the PtP theme is announced to make a decision since I just KNOW if I started reading one now it would fit the theme and I would either have to restart it or not use it for that.

So the story starts with Slade, who's a stripper and a manwhore who only sleeps with women once in order to not have any attachments. One night at the club, there's a new girl that he sees and just has to have. But despite basically eye-f*cking him all night, she says she's not interested. Good thing for Slade, she just happens to be the person his roommate said was going to stay with them for a week.

There's a lot of back and forth....and honestly, Aspen started getting on my nerves with how she'd be all into Slade and then suddenly snap out of it and decide she hates him, when he didn't do anything except look hot.

Essentially, most of the book is your typical "super hot manwhore who refuses to settle suddenly only wants one woman for no real reason except that he thinks she's attractive" story, and Slade is such a charismatic character that it actually works ok, and I liked it.

But the twist, where you find out about Slade's backstory, honestly kind of ruined this for me. It was a bit too heavy. And going from what he had before to a quickie insta-love relationship with Aspen, who really doesn't have much of a personality and feels like a very shell kind of character, just felt kind of cheap and not enough. Made worse when you find out more about Aspen later and how much of a doormat she really is.

I really liked the first 75% of the book. Super smutty goodness. But the last 25% was too much of a downer and just didn't feel like a satisfying conclusion to Slade's story 🤷🏼‍♀️.

OMG! I really need to start paying more attention when I'm reading the task. I got as far as "select an animal" and immediately went to animal on cover instead of tagged. Fortunately the book I started is MPG Animals > Dogs, so no harm, no foul this time.

It'll make a difference when I'm figuring out what my 2nd book will be though...
