When You’re Not Reading a Cozy
I am cleaning out my bookshelves and rereading some oldies before I donate them. The Sherbrooke Twins
, Lyon's Gate
by Catherine Coulter
I am reading Death of a Showman
by Mariah Fredericks. Set in 1914 New York City. This is book 4 in the series. Our main character is Jane is a Lady's maid and we get more insight into her duties and escorting he employer Louse Tyler around. Good but I liked earlier books a bit better.
I can now post my review of Dark Tarot
by Christine Feehan. The author brings danger, suspense, romance, and action to her latest book in the Dark paranormal romantic suspense series. My 5 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Currently devouring Consumed: On Colonialism, Climate Change, Consumerism, and the Need for Collective Change
. If you're concerned about the environment, capitalism, consumerism, fast fashion, etc. this is a great book. It really has me rethinking a lot about what I buy and why I buy it.

I finished a technothriller Dark Zone
by Stephen Coonts and Jim DeFelice. My 3 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I can now post my review of Vital Lies
by Daniel Pyne. This spy thriller is the second book in the Sentro spy thriller series. This book has a clever plot with enough twists to keep a reader guessing. A memorable opening scene immediately pulls any reader into the story. One thing that detracted from the flow of the novel was the continual jumping around in time and points of view (POV) during the first half or so of the story. While POVs continued to change later, it flowed better for me.My 3 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just started reading The Jabberwock
by Ninie Hammon looks like a nice change from what I've been reading.
I can now post my review of The Mark
by Matt Brolly. The author brings plenty of suspense and some action, as well as an edginess, to the fourth book in the Detective Inspector (DI) Louise Blackwell series set in and near the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare in England. A strong, intriguing, and memorable opening scene will immediately pull many readers into the story. Overall, this was a gripping and chilling story with complex characters.

And now, for something completely different for me...I'm obsessed with the Scream film franchise, so when I saw this book, I had to read it.
It All Began with a Scream by Padraic Maroney https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I foolishly forgot my book at work over the weekend, which meant I had to start another Sunday, which I have now finished: The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman, which I quite enjoyed. Now to finish the cozy I started last week.... 😐
Currently reading an ARC of Dark Night, the newest in Paige Shelton's Alaska Wild series. It's not really a cozy series, but I like it a lot. I'm trying not to get too attached to it, though, because she doesn't seem to let her series run much longer than 4-5 books, so it will likely end soon.
It's time for some nonfiction and I am reading Nice White Ladies: The Truth about White Supremacy, Our Role in It, and How We Can Help Dismantle It
.
I finishedThe Flower & The Blackbird
by Liane Zane. This is book 2 in the Elioud Legacy series. The author brings action, attraction, and suspense to this paranormal romantic suspense urban fantasy espionage thriller. The novel is largely set in France, Italy, and Albania with some side trips to Croatia and North Macedonia. My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Per publisher guidelines, I can now post my review of Guild Boss
by Jayne Castle. The author brings murder, kidnapping, storms, ghosts, suspense, romance, and action to her latest book in the Ghost Hunters paranormal romantic suspense series set in Illusion Town on the colony world of Harmony. Readers can easily imagine a Las Vegas –like setting with weddings, bright lights, and casinos, but combined with unpredictable weather, prospectors, an underground city built by aliens with lots of paranormal activity, and plenty of criminals. brings murder, kidnapping, storms, ghosts, suspense, romance, and action to her latest book in the Ghost Hunters paranormal romantic suspense series set in Illusion Town on the colony world of Harmony. My review for
A Whole Lot of Lemonade Jones by Davina Bell and Karen Blairhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line which is more noir than cozy. If you loved the Veronica Mars TV show, then you will love this book. It seamlessly picks up where the movie left of. I listened to the audio book and Kristen Bell's narration is amazing. The mystery was complex with many layers. And of course Veronica is the only one persistent enough to unravel all the clues.
I loved Veronica Mars, the movie, and the books. Haven't watched the revival season and not sure I want to based on what I know about it. Not cozy. But very enjoyable.

I will brace myself, but I'm sure there will be tears at the end. 😥 Definitely not cozy. I think of it as noir, so no happy endings.
My review for Mr Cat & the Widow by Stephen Hart within the anthology
Sweet Christmas Secrets: A Regency Holiday Anthology https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I liked this kindle book so much that I ordered the physical print version. So I will be rereading The Cursed Key

by Reavis Z. Wortham. It gives readers a view of East Texas in 1931 when a huge oil field has been found and towns are exploding with people, oil wells, and the good and bad that came with it. Texas Ranger Tom Bell is tracking a fugitive murderer. Overall, this book was an engaging and action-filled crime thriller in a historical setting that kept me turning the pages. My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

It is the seventh book in the Peter Ash series and is set in multiple states, but mainly Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota. My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
