When You’re Not Reading a Cozy
Here is my review of Vanishing Edge
by Claire Kells. This new-to-me author brings crimes and suspense to a well-written and dramatic crime thriller largely set in Sequoia National Park near Three Rivers, California. Overall, this was well-written, captivating, and thought-provoking. I enjoyed unraveling the mystery along with Harland and Hux. I was hooked immediately in the first chapter and the pages kept turning. My 5 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I’m about 200 pages into A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Enjoying this — how could any reader resist a book set primarily at the Bodleian Library in Oxford?? 📖

Meg — Great minds think alike...again! I’m now halfway in, and am now in France. Can’t wait to see where else this book takes us!
I am currently rereading the Colorado Chapters series by Kathy Miner book one: What Survives of Us
, book two: Where the Light Enters
book three: The Journey is Our Home
Finished out the week with a thriller:
One by One by Ruth Ware https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished A Discovery of Witches today (Friday). Loved it! Now to try to fit the next book into my reading queue... 😳
Here is my review of Strength Under Fire
by Lindsay McKenna. It's the third book in the Silver Creek contemporary romantic suspense series. The writing and discussions gave me a strong sense of the Wildflower Ranch and the Silver Creek community. While it is portrayed as very idyllic and somewhat unrealistic, I wanted to believe in it and enjoyed it. It was an entertaining book that was emotionally intense at times. The author did a good job of meshing the romance and the suspense without either suffering. My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished the standalone political thriller The President Is Missing
by Bill Clinton and James Patterson. My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished The Ex Hex
by Erin Sterling. It's a light and fun paranormal romantic comedy featuring witches Vivienne Jones and Rhys Penhallow. My 3.5 star review rounded to 4 stars for the pure enjoyment and fun that I had reading the book:

This is one that I finished reading in August, but couldn't post my review until now. My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...A Terrible Fall of Angels
by Laurell K. Hamilton. This is the first book in the Zaniel Havelock urban fantasy / supernatural suspense / paranormal police procedural series. She builds a new world for readers to marvel and explore. Overall, this book was an entertaining and thought-provoking paranormal police investigation with strong religious and belief overtones. It is definitely a departure from the previous series written by this author in many ways. However, she continues to bring great characters, entertaining and unique story lines, action, and suspense together in her novels.
YES! I finished the last story in the 100 Classic Short Stories anthology. I have been working through this collection for a couple of years, and one of my goals this year was to finish it. The stories range from general fiction by greats such as Fitzgerald, Twain, Dickens, Henry James and Edith Wharton to lesser known writers in the mystery, horror and science fiction genres (or at least, not known to me). As with any sort of eclectic collection such as this, I liked some stories more than others. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes classics and short stories.

I have two or three of those classic story collections with full length books. I haven't decided if I'll just read a story now and again as the mood hits (whenever that'll be 😄) or just enjoy looking at them.

Well done :) I bet you can't remember what the first ones you read were about - especially in detail!!
Thanks, Meg! I have a few of the “50 classic books” collections, too. I have read a few of the books in each, but a long way to go to finish them (if I ever do, lol).
Brenda — Thank you. I can remember what most are about, but I’m sure there are a few I’ve forgotten. 😗

My review for
The Woman at the Gates by Chrystyna Lucyk-Bergerhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Currently rereading The Sherbrooke Bride
by Catherine Coulter an old historical romance with a touch of humor.
My review for
No Woman is an Island: Inspiring and Empowering International Women by Liza Perrat, Linda Gillard, Lorna Fergusson, Clare Flynn and Helena Halmehttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Currently have three books in progress:
* The Book That Made Me — Started last night when I had trouble sleeping. No idea how far I am as ebook pages are way off from actual page count. I don’t understand why some publishers have difficulty getting page numbers to match up. In any case, the essays read so far have been interesting. I think my favorite so far is “Thwack,” an essay on what the author (can’t remember her name) learned from reading Anne of Green Gables, which was one of my favorite books.
* The Witness for the Prosecution and Other Stories — This is a reread for me. I read it previously in 2010, and it is this month’s group read for the Agatha Christie group. So far I have remembered how most of the stories end. Some have seemed for familiar than others. Only three left.
* The Return of Sherlock Holmes — Listening to this collection on audiobook via YouTube, and am about halfway through. There are a surprising number of classic books available on YouTube.

I am reading The Outcast Girls
by Alys Clare and quite enjoying it. Set in 1881 London. I like our two main characters Lily and Felix. The description of Girls boarding school is very good. Can't wait to see what Happens. Book 2 of the series.
I'm now able to post my review for The Orphan Witch
by Paige Crutcher. The author brings suspense, heartbreak, magic, and hope to her debut novel. My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
It's been so long since I have posted in here or any group for that matter and I do miss doing it. I won't promise that I will do it more but I would like to try to do it more often. I liked seeing what everyone was reading & maybe get a few ideas for books. As if I need anymore ideas lol..But, right now, I am reading, well actually, listening to:
1. Hollowpox: The Hunt for Morrigan Crow (book 3)
2. Rosie's Travelling Tea Shop (ebook) (Edit: finished 9/11/21)
What I recently finished (since the start of September)
1. I Left The House Today!
2. Second Chance Summer (Finished on Sept. 1)

I'll start as soon as I can find an affordable copy, actually pay for it, wait for it to get here (since shipping standards have become somewhat lax due to a certain virus), and I get through the monumental stacks of books I have yet to read. Oh, and stop checking out books from my library in between.

I finished two short story collections this week: The Witness for the Prosecution and Other Stories by Agatha Christie and The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. Witness was a reread for me. Despite more than ten years, I did remember most of the stories in the book. I think there was only one ending I did not remember. Still working on The Book That Made Me, which is a collection of essays by various authors from Australia and New Zealand.
Finished reading The Heiress Bride
and started The House That Fell From The Sky
by Patrick R. Delaney
My weekend readathon reviews:
Kill Our Sins by J.M. Dalglieshhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Italian Girl's Secret by Natalie Meg Evanshttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is a marvelous middle grade mystery. Get it for the student in your life, but then sneak off and read it yourself.
Spy School at Sea by Stuart Gibbs https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here is my 5 star review of Dark Night
by Paige Shelton. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is the third book in the Alaska Wild Mysteries series. It's a well-written mystery novel that combines traditional police detective work and amateur sleuthing. Secrets, murder, and a horrific experience that continues to haunt and traumatize the main character make for a suspenseful and riveting read. The author does a great job of portraying the hardships and lack of amenities as well as the friendships, pace of life, the wonders, and the dangers of living in and around small town Alaska.
After having a hard time finding something that would catch my eye, I decided I hadn't read a romance in a long while. Picked up Butterfly in Frost
as it's not a long book and it seemed like it would be an easy read.
