When You’re Not Reading a Cozy
I finished Master of Shadows
by Joss Walker and R.L. Perez. My 4.05 rounded to 4 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This was a fun, engaging, and action-filled urban fantasy novel.
I finished Spy x Family, Vol. 1
by Tatsuya Endo and translated by Casey Loe.My 4.05 rounded to 4 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This was my introduction to manga. Thanks to my Goodreads friends in the Vampires, Weres, and Fae! discussion group for the great recommendation.
My review for
Lest We Forgive by AA Phillipa Nefri Clark, the start of a brand new mystery/suspense serieshttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I really enjoyed
Oh Danny Girl by C. Michele Dorsey, a page turning thriller. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here is my 4.58 rounded to 5 stars review of Recovery Road
by Christine Feehan:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Overall, this heart-wrenching paranormal romantic suspense novel has great characterization, several sizzling scenes, and plenty of action.
Reading such a fun gothic horror book right now for another group - The Dismembered by Jonathan Janz - I highly recommend if you like that genre!
I marked Wild Seed by Octavia E. Butler as DNF. I tried it for the 52 book club challenge. Even though the writing was excellent, the content was not for me.
Here is my 4.12 rounded to 4 stars review of Critical Mass
by Daniel Suarez:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I recommend this novel if you enjoy hard science fiction techno-thrillers.
I finished Unnatural History
by Jonathan Kellerman. My 4.07 rounded to 4 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
#38 in this police procedural / mystery / crime thriller
Finished my reread of Breakfast at Tiffany's: A Short Novel and Three Stories for the Classics group. Still a four-star book for me.
And now I’m wanting to watch the movie again.
And now I’m wanting to watch the movie again.
I finished Jacqueline in Paris
by Ann Mah. It is about the college years of Jacequline Bouvier Kennedy. I really wanted to like this book it was just okay for me. It was interesting to hear about post war France. I found parts about Jacqueline's live a bit boring and repetitive. Her mother was a very difficult lady, must of been tough putting up with her as a young woman.
Read Bill Bryson's African Diary by Bill Bryson, a Little Free Library find a few months ago. Only about 50 pages, it chronicles his week-long visit to Kenya on behalf of CARE International, where he visited refugee camps and learned about other CARE programs. The book was a fundraiser, with all profits and royalties going to CARE.
I finished Wolf Takes the Lead
by Terry Spear. My 4.20 rounded to 4 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is a fun and enjoyable paranormal romance with some suspense and surprises along the way.
My review for
The Woman Who Knew Too Little by Olivia Wearnehttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Listened to a children's classic, Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater, via free audioreading found on YouTube. As fun as I remembered!
I finished How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix. It is a thriller/horror. I generally don't read that type of book but I couldn't put it down. Totally warped story, but pulls you in makes you keep reading.
Here is my 3.86 rounded to 4 stars review of Curfew
by Jayne Cowie:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is a thought-provoking near-future Britain dystopian murder mystery.
I found a free PDF online as well as an audiobook on YouTube for another of this month’s Classic group reads, Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose. I have seen the 1957 film starring Henry Fonda and Jack Klugman many times, but had never read the original play before. It’s short enough (only 1-1/2 hours) that I read and listened to it last night. Now I’m wanting to see the movie again!
My review for
537 Days of Winter: A Tale of Resilience, Endurance and Humanity while Stranded in Antarctica During the Pandemic by David Knoffhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My review for
The Knighton Women's Compendium by Denise Pictonhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished reading White Smoke
by John Gilstrap. My 4.72 rounded to 5 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This dystopian novel included a fantastic protagonist, exciting scenes, and a shocking story kept me captivated from beginning to end. It's the third book in the series and they should be read in order.
Finished The Haunted Hotel by Wilkie Collins, a classic group read for this month. The last few chapters especially kept me riveted.
I finished The Winter Garden
by Nicola Cornick. Very good. Duel time book, present day and late 1500s/early 1600s. The goes over history and background of Gunpowder Plot to assassinate King James I. Well written.
My review for
River Sing Me Home by Eleanor Shearer (up there with my best books ever)https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Heather L wrote: "Started Along Came a Spider by James Patterson, my first book by him."Really? Gosh, I hope you enjoy his stories Heather. He's one of my go to "guilty pleasure" authors :)
One non-cozy mystery in the last couple of week:
Where the Guilty Hide by Annette Dashofy https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Heather L wrote: "Listened to a children's classic, Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater, via free audioreading found on YouTube. As fun as I remembered!"Love this book! I may have to search for this audio. Sometimes kids' books are the best!
As usual, when not reading Cozies I'm pretty much reading romance. I've read over 50 items this year (to date), only one of which has been a cozy. I am behind in my Cozy Challenge because I got stuck...Reading/rereading Carly Phillips Dare family and Dare-related series...

Really? Gosh, I hope you enjoy his stories Heather. He's one of my go to "guilty..."
I know, where have I been, right? I borrowed it from my sister ages ago and never got around to it. Only about a quarter into it so far, but it does read fairly fast. I have today and tomorrow off, so we’ll see how much of it I can get through.

Try YouTube, that’s where I listened to it. You can find a LOT of kids books there. 🤓
