Luna made a quiet whimper and ran back to Kalil where she burrowed into his lap. Annie kept her wings folded. Annie blinked at the man whom she had bumped into.

Julien looked at the girl in front of him and sighed. He was about to say something nasty but kept quiet. Instead he gave a her a look and continued to go inside.
Kalil flinched when Luna came over to him. He gently put his arm around her, trying to comfort her. He didn't know why she had seemed scared, but he was willing to help her.
Annie followed him. She needed answers or a conversation. Luna coiled her soft purple tail around his arm.,
"What's wrong, Luna?" Kalil asked, his voice soft. He glanced at his sleeve, making sure his arm was covered. Just because Aurora and Luna knew about his scars didn't mean he wanted to show them off.
Luna looked up “I’m scared...” Luna said. Her ears were back.
"Why are you scared?" Kalil asked. He rubbed Luna's back. He moved his staff so it wasn't in Luna's way.
Luna curled into a ball “I’m scared of everyone.” Luna said. Up close, she smelled like orchids in bloom.
Kalil laughed humorlessly. "I can understand that. I'm sometimes afraid of everyone as well." He continued rubbing Luna's back.
Luna started purring, relaxing. Her ears went up. Her tail smacked the ground happily.,
Kalil kept his arm around Luna. She seemed to have calmed down a little. "Are you afraid of everyone because of your past?" he asked, hoping that wouldn't cause Luna to react negatively.
Luna looked up “Yes. I don’t want people hating me because of my past.” Luna said. Her tail curled around his arm.
Kalil looked at Luna. He felt pain flare through his heart. That was exactly how he felt. "Why would they hate you?" he asked.
Luna blinked at him “Because I’m different.” Luna said. She flicked her tail.
"Everyone is different," Kalil said. "That's the beauty of the world." He looked at her. "Being different is fun and refreshing. If everyone were the same, it'd be a pretty boring world, wouldn't you think? The fact that you're different makes you unique."
Luna stared at him “I’m unique?” Luna asked. Her ears were up.
Kalil nodded. "Of course you are," he said, smiling at her. The expression felt the slightest bit abnormal, seeing as he didn't really smile much. "And if anyone hates anyone because of their past, they're gonna hate me, not you."
Luna stared at him, her ears going up and down. Her tail rested on his hand. This had changed everything.
"Those people who would hate you for being different aren't worth your time or effort," Kalil said. "What they would do is hate you for just being yourself. I learned that people who hate other people tend to not be great people. They are likely insecure of themselves, and selfish people who cannot think about others. They're the people like my father. They're not worth dwelling on. The moment you dwell on their words, they win."
“My friends aren’t like that! Not ever!” Luna protested
"What friends?" Kalil asked, confused. "I said nothing about your friends." He looked at her. "Do your friends hate you, Luna? Is that what this is about?" He was genuinely deeply confused.
Luna stared at him “No. That man I saw, I didn’t like him.” Luna said. Her ears went down again.
Kalil shook his head. "I didn't like him either," he said. "He seemed kind of sketchy to me."
Luna whimpered and burrowed in. Her ears were down completely. Her tail was circling.
Kalil kept his hand on Luna's back, rubbing it. He hadn't moved it. He moved his right leg, needing to resettle himself. "Still afraid?" he asked Luna.
Luna nodded. Her tail paused and picked up pace. Her ears were twitching occasionally but still down.
"Come up a little higher," Kalil told Luna, moving his hand. "I need to move my leg." He winced.
Luna moved up higher. Her tail curled around her legs. She suddenly looked up, alert.
"Is something wrong?" Kalil asked, stretching out his right leg. He held Luna. He glanced around. He hadn't heard anything, nor had he seen anything.
Luna shivered and snuggled in. She was warm, probably from the sweater. Apparently, the sweater was made of silk.
Kalil held Luna tightly. He wanted to warm and comfort the young girl. Amira watched as her brother showed an amount of tenderness he usually didn't. He wasn't rude to others, he was just usually emotionless and hands-off. He saw something in Luna that he saw in himself, which just made him want to help the girl more, even if the help was minuscule.
Luna fell asleep on his lap, her chest rising and falling evenly. Her tail moved slightly with each breath and her ears flicked up and down. Her moon barrette gleamed in the moonlight.
Kalil continued to hold Luna, rubbing her back. She had seemed to have fallen asleep. He had grown fond of the young girl, even if he hadn't known her that long. She reminded him very much of himself. Similar trauma, similar fears, similar doubts. It slightly terrified him to be honest. It terrified him to think that there were other kids out there who felt the way he did. He never liked feeling alone, but this wasn't something he wanted anyone to share with him. It saddened him.
Luna let out a quiet purr and shifted. Her tail twitched up. Her ears went up.
Kalil stayed alert, like he always did. He was always on edge, even when he thought he wasn't. Amira looked at Luna, smiling.

Julien was starting feel like going to this party was a bad idea.
Annie blinked at him quietly. Luna let out a quiet yawn and snuggled in. Her tail waved.
"She's so young," Amira whispered, referring to Luna. "How could her father be so cruel?""She's not much older than I was, Mira," Kalil responded, keeping his voice low. "And you know as well as anybody that not everyone deserves to be a parent." He looked at Luna. She looked so peaceful. It didn't seem as if she dwelled on her past much, but it definitely seemed as if it had impacted her behavior and fear.
Luna started whimpering quietly. Her tail flicked restlessly, in a nightmare. Her ears went down.
Kalil looked at Luna when she whimpered. Was she having a nightmare? Kalil held her, knowing that like him, she might wake up soon.
Luna woke up. Her tail was moving quickly to represent her fear. The scars on her body bled a little bit.
"Luna?" Kalil asked, his voice soft. "Are you all right?" He noticed the scars on her body bleeding, but he tried not to show his concern. He didn't want to worry her.
Luna shivered "N-no..." Luna said, her ears down. She seemed as if someone had dropped her from a great height.
"It's all right," Kalil told her, trying to comfort her. "You're safe. There's no one here. No one's hurting you." He got nightmares frequently and understood the girl's fear and reaction.
Luna curled up, whining quietly. She settled into her sleep and her tail rested on his arm. Her ears flicked up and down.
Kalil rubbed Luna's back. He tried to comfort her as much as he possibly could. He didn't want her to feel this way. He didn't want her to have this to deal with, but he knew he couldn't change it.
Luna let out a quiet purr and relaxed, her ears up. Her tail flicked from side to side as she slept. Her chest rose and fell evenly.
Kalil sighed. He was glad it didn't seem to take long for Luna to calm down. She seemed to be resting peacefully at the moment, which was good.
Luna yawned quietly and spread full out on his lap, her tail touching the ground slightly. Her purple hoodie was down still and she had forgotten to pull it up. Her head rested on Kalil's left knee.
Kalil didn't move too much while Luna was asleep. He didn't want to wake her. She wasn't laying on his bad leg anyway, so it wasn't like he was in any pain.
