[2022] Wild Discussion
I like this one, and I am pretty sure that these movies are known around the world. I think animated is the way to go. There are still so many just with those:
Someday My Prince Will Come - something about royalty
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo - something with magic
Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's Off to Work We Go - a workplace story
etc. -You can tell in what ancient era I was introduced to Disney!

Thanks, Emily, I’ve turned on notifications. Thanks also for the info about the app, Jillian. I’ll know what to do next time.

Absolutely! And even people who might not like the movies that much themselves, although I'd be surprised if there was anyone who didn't have a single one they liked at least a little, it doesn't matter since it's not tied to a favourite, one you grew up with, etc.
In terms of wording, I'd probably go with "A book related to the title of a song from an animated Disney or Pixar movie." If I happen not to be online when voting opens up in a few days, feel free to suggest it for me!

I actually think their need to be soem freebies. I agree not too many.

Everyone can adapt it in a way that suits them. I would pick a song before the end of the year and stick with it which is what I did this year for prompt that didn't make it and random word generator. (I'm on my second attempt and trying to decide if I should change them or do the same again)
I wouldn't worry about it being too easy - It's not any more of a freebie than some others we've had, such as "a love story" (which didn't even need to be a romance). I like the idea of an extended challenge. I didn't think the Pixar movies had songs throughout the way Disney did, but it's a long time since I had young kids, so I may have missed some. I think just Disney movie would be enough though. In the discussion thread for the prompt, everyone could brainstorm ideas for a Listopia.

TOY STory 1 and 2 defiently do. If I rmeebr rightly A Bugs Life and Mosnters Inc don't
Just posted it! But I recommend following our announcements thread for future postings: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Thanks

Absolutely.
I want to challenge myself to read more non-fiction next year, so I will be looking for prompts that could work for both fiction and non-fiction.
I especially like "Nonfiction Books by a scientist" and I would encourage people to think about social sciences too (psychology, anthropology, sociology, etc.) And nature.
Nonfiction books by journalists are also really interesting, and they're often more accessible to people outside of the field.
I sort of like subtitles, but I suppose if I had to look for books without them, it could be fun to read through a lot of titles. I'm sure I'll find cool books I might not have otherwise noticed.

The Disney Song prompt doesn't sound that easy to me because I haven't watched any of those movies in a very long time. But it could be very fun.

I don't know of any suggestions in that area yet. Would be interesting to see some. the other year Popsugar had woman in STEM so maybe we could try something like that.

I suggested a Book with a character in a career that are most often filled by the opposite sex
This would include women in STEM, but I think a prompt specific to women in STEM would be good as well.

an idea for a prompt for next year:
-a book from an author's backlist

Sorry, how would that work?
Backlist means it's not the most recent book the author has published.
Rae, I was actually thinking of suggesting "An author's debut book" so I like the way you're thinking there.

Maybe that could be a multiweek prompt
a debut a last or msot recent book and a book that is neither (not necesarily all by the same author

Glad you jumped in, Rae! I know there are a lot of members who do the challenge but who we never hear from, and it's great to get new ideas.

Not all of them do, but some movies like Frozen or Tangled have songs.
In terms of it being a freebie -- I can definitely see how it could be, but we're all free to limit it however we want if we want to make it more challenging. Personally, I'd probably pick an underrated Disney movie like Hercules, Hunchback of Notre Dame, or A Goofy Movie.

I also really like the nonfiction no subtitle idea.
I've updated the community spreadsheet for 2022 planning purposes, if you're interested in snagging a spot on there!

I've already noted a few ideas for 2022, so I'm just going to put them out there and see if any of you pick up on any of them^^

I am a full month late to this wild thread, but I wanted to say I LOVE your ideas, Conny!! I look forward to voting for them all :-)

Basically, I like the idea of reading a book about another country, but NOT the "typical" story you might read from that country. So, Midnight's Children, which is focused on the story of a Muslim family in majority-Hindu India, or Pachinko, which was about Korean immigrants to Japan, or Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows, which is about a Sikh community in the UK.
The significant part of the prompt for me is the idea of reading about an element of another country's culture that you might be less familiar with - I'm really enjoying Midnight's Children because I feel like it's highlighting a very different perspective than the other books I've read that have been set in India.

I like that idea a lot!
I love that, Hannah!
Just a head's up: Please keep your questions in this thread! The announcements thread is for mod posting only. I'll try to put any questions we answer here in the FAQs on the announcements thread, but we want to keep that thread clean for announcements. Thanks!

That does give a new spin. For this year's prompt about a story involving an immigrant, I assumed I would use something set in the US but I ended up using Beartown. One of the main characters is from an unidentified country, possibly Syria, and has immigrated to Sweden.

Thanks, those are awesome suggestions to narrow it down! I get stressed by prompts that give me way too many options so I like it when there's a way to make it more specific. I made the random word generator work by just going with the first word it generated for me and sticking to that. I don't have a favorite Disney song so I'll have to find a good quiz to find out which one I get!

(The blog is owned by Disney so I guess it's somewhat official??) Now I'm dying to vote for this prompt because I love my result ("Bella Notte" from Lady and the Tramp).

I love this type of book. Anything cross-cultural really.
I liked the immigrant prompt this year.

I got The Circle of Life, that would be a great one for a prompt!
I got Beauty and the Beast, probably because Belle is the only princess who is a great reader, and the story is in France. There are lots of romances based on that story. Or it could be about an owner and her animal pet/friend. But the song is a bit blah for my taste.
That’s the song I got as well, Robin. I’d probably just pick my own song rather than go with that one.

I could work in lots of things if we were going from the whole song, but if it’s just based on the title, I got nothing!
That’s fine though—I have plenty of favorite Disney songs and I’d probably pick one of those anyway. Lots of fun discussion possibilities and overall a fun idea for a prompt.

It could be a book with a long title. Or, related to Mary Poppins, a book taking place in England or a book with a childcare worker.

I took it twice and got “Let it Go,” the first time, and “Beauty and the Beast,” the second time. Neither of those really suggest any good books options to me, but I can always pick another song. I do really like the suggestion.

LOL I was thinking of Mr. Limpet, Mary Poppins and Bednobs and Broomsticks. I guess those can be counted as partly animated though.

LOL that is my ring tone.

Oh true. I was only thinking of the animated movies (including Pixar), but I guess thinks like Camp Rock and High School Musical could potentially work too. I wasn't thinking of Star Wars or MCU at all. Do they even have songs?
I'd probably limit it to animated since that was my intent. I was a little worried people would find it too much of a freebie!
