Go you! Sometimes you just have to go for it, right??!

That I know well-- I have been toying with the idea of the Lord of the Rings but that kind of epic-ness and length scares me! Length is another thing that intimidates for sure.

Hooray for audiobooks!

Oh, I have so many like this. And, then I beat myself up for not reading them because I might really love them. Sigh.

Now that I've finished it I'm not sure I would wholeheartedly recommend it. On the one hand it's certainly well-written and many parts are very compelling (I especially love the character Dorothea!), and on the other hand some parts are absolutely boring and also utterly miserable. I want to call it a "feel-bad book". Nevertheless if you are interested in it and don't feel you'd be satisfied without ever having read it, like I have been, I would definitely encourage you. :)

I get scared by long series that I haven't started yet...like Forgotten Realms or Inspector Gamache or No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency or DISCWORLD!! Like, am I too late or will it take me too long to get through them? And then I still don't get to them. lol.

That's certainly another element too-- feeling like you won't "get" what everyone else gets about it. True!

Diskworld is great. Once you have read the first 2 books, you can just follow the mini-series within the series such as "The Witches". Good way to go if you are intimidated to read the whole 41 or 42 book series (which I finished in 2019).

And I dragged my heels on reading Return of the Thief because it was the last in the series and if I read it there wouldn't be any more...

Thanks for the tip!
I finally read War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy and Moby-Dick or, the Whale by Herman Melville. . . .but not yet One Hundred Years of Solitude byGabriel García Márquez. Must try again.

1-THE HANDMAIDS TALE by Margaret Atwood .
2-THE ROAD by Cormac McCarthy
They got good bookreviews but I'll have to wimp out on these .
Truman Capote's books (except for BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S ) also make me cringe at the thought of reading one .

A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN . I thought I would like it , but I found it scary . Not gonna attempt a second try .

The question is what book are you *scared* to read? And I mean scared in a variety of ways-- maybe it's an upcoming book you can't wait to read but you're scared because once you've read it it'll be over. Maybe it's a book in another language or translated? Maybe it's because there's so much hype around it that you're unsure whether it'll live up to it? Maybe it's the second book after a stellar debut from an author? Or maybe it's an intimidating classic?
I can say I was a bit scared of Moby Dick but I decided to dive head-long into the audiobook and while it's not make any of my "top" lists, I'm glad to have read it.
