Katie | 1 comments Definitely YA maybe Fantasy

A young woman (a princess?) digs her way out of the cell she is in. She begins walking towards the border. She hides in grass/trees during the day and travels at night. She almost gets caught when a troop takes a break next to the grass she is hiding in. She gets to the border and is mistaken for a refugee from an ongoing war. She ends up helping out at the camp and I think stays there...

It was not set in a real place or time but had a European feel to it.

I read it around the same time as Goose Girl and Princess Academy. I bought all of them new from Books A Million in paper back.

Thank you for any help!

Julie (onetrooluff) | 90 comments This is only a wild guess because the similarities aren't 100%, but try Rise of a Hero by Hilari Bell. It's the second book in a trilogy about a country being taken over and a noble girl survives/escapes the initial invasion and ends up working in one of the military camps where they think she is a (commoner) local. The tone is very similar to Goose Girl etc.

Taylor | 149 comments This is not a perfect fit but maybe The Crown of Embers, which is the second book in The Girl of Fire and Thorns series
