Task 5 - 37. Read 6 books set in the US.

The Chase The Chase (Briar U, #1) by Elle Kennedy
Read: 24th March
Pages: 374
Qualifies: Set in USA tagged setting-usa by 2 users
Rating: 3 star
Review:
This book started off at a firm 5 star read. I was enjoying it it was nice to have a heroine with learning difficulties.
Then at 65% this happened
For the men, I hadn’t been kidding about the football player angle. Nobody wants to see Speedos and swim trunks on scrawny guys with their ribs and hipbones jutting out. Gotta have the abs, baby.

I get this is a romance novel and the intended audience is probably not a lot of men but this I'm sorry made me cringe. If we want body positivity for women we should want it for men too.
So then I was looking at a 4 star because despite it I was enjoying it and then she had to say something unnecessary at 97%
“But please, don’t expect me to transform into a warm and fuzzy creature overnight. I am British, after all.”

I'm offended. I shouldn't be but the fuck?
I'm not entirely sure where this book is set apart from the USA because it mentioned Boston but then I looked up Hastings and that was ages away from Boston so I'm confused.

Review: I'm happy to say that the series is back on track! Lucas Titan has done some pretty crappy things in the previous books, so I was curious to see how he could be redeemed. I'm glad I didn't let the previous book turn me off the series because it was great to watch Lucas meet his match in Yve. I really liked these two together, and read the story from start to finish. Now I'm hopeful that the rest of the series will be as good as this one.

Forbidden Puck Forbidden Puck (Boston Brawlers, #1) by June Winters
Read: 24th March
Pages: 228
Qualifies: loc-usa-east tagged by 1 user not me
Rating: 3 stars
Review: It was fine.

Nothing really special. Wasn't too keen on the style of writing overall. It just felt a little weird the way she spoke and he acted..
I'm also not in love with the whole previously was a man whore style of hero.

Up to Snow Good by Kelly Collins
Pages: 196 kindle edition
Qualifies: set in Colorado, see precis ..."the Sunshine Lodge in Moss Creek, Colorado is home,...
Rating: 2.5 stars
Review: This is a modern day Romeo & Juliet retelling with a HEA. I found this one to be a little boring and the feud between the two families didn't really bring anything extra....meh. Think I was generous in the half star🙂

Alicia, you don't have to read a second book this time around. Megan read 2, I read 2, you read 1 and Sandy said she will finish her book after work, that's 6 books.

Book/cover link: Crooked Tree Ranch Crooked Tree Ranch (Montana, #1) by R.J. Scott
Page numbers with source: GR/200 pgs
How book qualified, with links or cover as necessary: Set in Montana in the US - noted in book details
Date Completed: 3/25/21
Rating/Review: 4 stars
I like how RJ Scott sets up her series, and I enjoyed the story of Nate and Jay and the Todd and Sullivan families. Nate owns a dude ranch with his brothers and some partners, and it's struggling. They decide to hire a marketing expert to try to get back on track. Jay lives in New York, but relocates his family (sister and her kids) to Montana for the job when he loses his current job and other family issues makes him realize a change of scenery would do them all good. Although it kinda all tied up in a neat little package, it was still a fun journey getting there and I'm looking forward to continuing stories in this series that tie in with the original characters.

Review: I enjoyed this mystery and think I would have liked it more if I read book 1 first. Morgan, is a strong, female character which I like and Lance compliments her well. Quick, fast paced, mystery with action and a bit of romance. Looking forward to reading book 1 and the rest of the series.

Megan | 1024 comments I'm always happy to read a 2nd book :) my only frustration on that task was like Alicia all the books I kept coming across none of them were tagged or had the setting filled in. I very nearly added it in a few times but the actual librarians for GR are strict so didn't want to waste time doing it if there wasn't proof.

Review: I enjoyed this, but not as much as the previous books. There was just something missing, so I found my interest wandering. Maybe it was because the story centered around Leah's past, and I really don't care too much about Leah. But I did like the interactions between Tag, Anna, and Charles. But I'm glad I didn't go ahead and buy the book when it came out, and got it from the library instead.

Review: Overall I enjoyed this book, but the when the MC's have secrets you know something is going to blow up at some point, so it was a bit predictable. Alex is romance author who uses a pseudonym that only his sister knows about. Mia is a book blogger who befriends the author, then meets the real man in real life. One knows who the other is, the other doesn't. So......train wreck coming, right? But the book was cute and short and I did like the characters.
