Just completed a selection for my only USA book - The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai. It took me a minute to jive with the female main character. But her prickliness has a reason. And the topics that are addressed are necessary and swaddled between delicious chemistry between the two mains. “You’re an alpha. But alphas need to rest. And they need to recoup. And they need to cry and be vulnerable and take a break from caring for everyone.” My one critique was that it seemed like the prose was a bit rushed. Worth reading! 4 stars

Q2 - Who Runs the World?
Duration: April 1, 2021-June 30, 2021
Progress: 5 out of 10
This quarter we want to focus on diverse voices from women, trans, and non-binary people from around the world. To qualify, the book must be written by:
1. A woman author. Participants can only read one book set in their country of residence and the remainder must be from different places, OR
2. A trans or non-binary author.
Who runs the world? Obviously, Beyoncé, but at the end of this challenge, we will have more answers from different perspectives;)

I'll start by aiming for 20 books by women authors (if I fill that, I'll come back and raise it ;) ) I totally bombed the 1st quarter challenges, so am choosing one I know I can actually do. Plus, back in the day I got a minor (NO majors offered in Vancouver in that field yet, and the bigger university didn't even offer a minor) in what was then called Women's Studies, so reading women authors has been a lifelong passion of mine, but of course, I don't read only women authors. but 4/5 of the books I am currently actively reading are by women...

Hi Lynn. Yes, that is correct. To keep with the spirit of diverse reading around the world, all location settings should be real countries/areas.

Thanks, TerryJane!!

A couple of things:
i) Thanks for the welcome. =P
ii) BTW, would academic books from several authors and anthologies work?? How do we feel about those??
I'm currently reading Access to Knowledge in Africa: The Role of Copyright and The Traveller's Daybook: A Tour of the World in 366 Quotations.
Both of these books have males as editors, but I know for sure (since... well, I'm reading them) that SEVERAL of the authors are women.
Actually, in the case of the Traveller's Daybook some people maybe even be NC/trans... I know some of these women dressed up as men in order not to be harassed while traveling.
As for the A2K book, some of the chapters (which are basically country-specific academic papers on copyright) were written by women putting emphasis on gender disparities (i.e. males both consume and produce more copyright material than females).
May I add these books or we shall weigh more who's the editor(s)??
Either way, I'm cool with the Admin's conclussion/view/perspective since I've already decided book v) Feeding The Fear Of Crime: Crime Related Media And Support For Three Strikes and book vi) Nimona.

Oooo, thanks for that TerryJane!! I just downloaded all of them. 🙌📚

Hi Malola,
The theme of the quarter is “Diversity Makes Us Better” and the goal of this challenge is to encourage us to read more diversely - 1) books by women set outside of our countries of residence, and/or 2) trans/non-binary authors (set in any country).
I looked at the books you mentioned, and neither seem to meet the spirit of the challenge to me.
I hope that helps.

I'll stick to the six I mentioned originally. :D

At the end of the day Malola, you are the one reading the book (it looks really good, I added it to my TBR) and you are the best judge of whether it meets the challenges goals. If you think it does, you should count it!
