It's marketed as a standalone but since his old friends show up so much I imagine it might be confusing if you're not familiar with any of them.

Lol you should. Though I will say Fallen Crest is a whole lot of teenage angst and drama (I loved it) so it may be a bit much reading them all one after the other. I think you would get by reading this without that background but it does change your perspective on things knowing some of the side characters back stories.
And yeah I want that new book so bad but I'm too chicken to request when the series is incomplete. She does tend to leave you hanging!

Finished So disappointed in this book. Maybe my expectations were too high but this was not the story I expected for the one and only Nate Monson. (view spoiler)
I know I was so sad it wasn't on KU. I usually love this author so I figured it'd be worth it but this was just not it :| So yeah basically all the side characters have had their own story. It can be read as a standalone but it'll be missing something if you go in blind. If you wait on this I won't blame you lol
