2020 Countdown Challenge

2020 COUNTDOWN CHALLENGE
Duration: January 1 - December 31, 2020

Once again, we’re challenging you to a Countdown. For this challenge, for every year since 2001, you will read the corresponding number of books originally published in that year. This would add up to 210 books, and we know that's a lot, so for those who would still like to participate but on a somewhat lesser scale, we're offering several other options.

For the traditionalists in the group, we're offering the original version of the challenge: 20 books originally published in 2020, 19 books originally published in 2019, and so on, until you get down to 1 book originally published in 2001.

For those who would rather work on those older books, or those who have trouble getting their hands on new releases, we have an inverted traditional version: 20 books originally published in 2001, 19 books originally published in 2002, and so, until you get down to 1 book originally published in 2020.

Abridged-10 and Abridged-5 are for those of you who want to use the traditional version's quantity of books for each year, but not include as many years. Abridged-10 totals 165 books and covers the years 2020 down to 2010, while Abridged-5 would require 105 books covering the years 2020 down to 2015. There are also inverted options for both of these variations.

New to the lineup this year, because we know there are readers who still want the challenge of reading books from every year in the Countdown but not as many as the traditional version requires, is what we're calling our Halfsies option. Of course, there is an inverted option for this choice as well.

Remember that what counts here is the year the book was originally published, no matter what year the edition you're reading was published.

Please read through all of the options below and when you sign up for the challenge, tell us which option you've chosen. If you don't tell us otherwise, we'll presume you're in for the full-length traditional challenge :)

♣ For each book you read, please indicate the title, the author and the date you finished reading it. If a challenge task gives several options, please make it clear which option you’ve chosen. If the task calls for an item on the cover, include a link to the book cover.* If it’s not obvious from the book title or cover, be sure to explain how your book fits the task. If you don’t, you won’t get credit for completing that task.

♣ Unless otherwise noted, books must be at least 150 pages long. (See the link above for rules regarding graphic novels.) Books may only be used for one task in this challenge, but cross-challenge posting is encouraged :) Re-reads are allowed, as long as you read the entire book. You must read at least half of the book AFTER the challenge begins in order to count it for this challenge.

I like this idea, but I can't quite finish the half option in one year, but the full countdown is probably going to take over 2 years, so I'm going for the full option. 2020 is nice and even, and my "inner Monk" didn't want to do the 2021 challenge, so I decided to do the 2020 challenge.

I originally saw a modified 2021 challenge in the All Challenges All the Time group, but when I saw it came from Crazy Challenge Connection group, I looked up the original challenge.
