Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments I am readingThe Mirror & the Light I am loving it. This is my favorite historical era to read about,

I read any book about Henry and his wives, It is a comfort read for me. I like knowing what is going to happen. What i enjoy so muck about this is it is from the perspective of Cromwell. It is my comfort read from a new side

I bought the first Kate Daniels years ago and never got around to reading it, so I'm super behind too.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I finishedBilly Summers multiple times I thought this is getting predictable I see where we're going. Then I'd look at how much book was left and think huh it wouldn't take that many pages for that maybe I don't know. Well he had some cards up his sleeve for me because I certainly did not have it all figured out.

And by half way much of the Trump mentions were gone so that was nice

PattyMacDotComma Art Garfunkel is the best friend who helped his college roommate, Sanford D. Greenberg deal with his sudden blindness. Greenberg's memoir, Hello Darkness, My Old Friend: How Daring Dreams and Unyielding Friendship Turned One Man's Blindness Into an Extraordinary Vision for Life.

It is fabulous! Greenberg knows everybody who's anybody, worked in the Johnson White House, and tells great stories!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I’m right there with you, Kristie, regarding the first Kate Daniels book. I have a paperback copy hiding “somewhere”.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I just finished a terrific audiobook, narrated by my favorite guy, Simon Vance. The Anatomist's Apprentice was a complete surprise. Set in London, in about 1775, Thomas Silkstone is a Doctor and a teacher of Anatomy. A young man dies, and Dr. Silkstone is called on to try and find out what killed him. Good mystery! I really enjoyed it - unfortunately, my library has none of the other six books in the series available. (sob!)

I am going to start Butcher's Crossing by John Williams next. I just downloaded the audiobook from my library wish list. This one is narrated by Anthony Heald. It is a western set in a small Kansas town in the 1870s. I hope it is good. ;o)

I have both of those and look forward to listening to them! Please post your opinions, Cherie.

PattyMacDotComma This is the Kopp sisters, World War One style! Norma's in France with her pigeons, young Fleurette is touring in the US with a dance troupe, and Constance is spying. Always fun. Dear Miss Kopp by Amy Stewart is #5 in the series.

Jan - I loved The Anatomist's Apprentice and gave it 5 stars.

I finished listening to Butcher's Crossing today. I gave it 4 stars - three for the story and one for the narrator. It is a disturbing account of four men who went to Colorado to hunt buffalo for their hides. This is considered a classic western story of the 1870s. It is disturbing in more ways than one, but an amazing account of their character and what they were willing to endure and withstand to make money - in their time.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I have started Thunderstruck for the monthly challenge and I am still reading Remarkable Creatures for one of the group read choices.

Turning Angel is on deck for my ongoing series reads.

Lilisa | 2770 comments I’m listening/reading to The Labyrinth of the Spirits - in a bit of a pause as I find my way through the labyrinth as I’m a bit lost :-) joining the buddy read; with A Recipe for Daphne, which is turning out to be a bit meh; and finished In My Mother's Footsteps: A Palestinian Refugee Returns Home, which was really good - review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I finished Beneath a Scarlet Sky. I'm the odd person out because I didn't care for this story. I'm not sure if the problem was the narrator, but I felt the performance had a Hallmark Movie feel. I've been reading some research about the authenticity of the "true story", and it appears that quite a bit was fabricated.

I've started Joplin's Ghost. This book will earn me my second badge. Woot!

message 666: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I finished Blood Heir and really enjoyed it. Aurelia is as bad ass as her mother, if not more. Can wait for the next book to be published.

I was going to start the oldest book on my TBR, Revenant: Book one of the Tatterdemon Trilogy but I realized it's only 60 Kindle pages. I got it for free and I'm really not all that interested, so I will cross it off the list and read The Emperor's Edge instead.

Kristie | 19143 comments I finished The Noise The Noise by James Patterson . I thought the ending was a little confusing and I will probably go back and re-read it. I'm not sure if it wasn't thought out well enough or if I just didn't understand it. Otherwise, I thought it was a really great story. I didn't know what was going to happen next and didn't figure out what was going on.

my The Noise review

Kristie | 19143 comments Currently reading Billy Summers Billy Summers by Stephen King . It's good. It is not horror, but a story about an assassin with some morals. It has some military fiction included, which is a great way to give us insight into our MC, but not my favorite genre. I'm hoping to finish today.

message 670: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I'm still reading The Twelve, which is being as good as the first book in the series.
I also started The Labyrinth of the Spirits for a buddy read.
I'm also listening to All Fires the Fire by Julio Cortázar which I first read more than 20 years ago.

message 671: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I've just finished My Best Friend's Exorcism. It had me chuckling most of the way through, highly recommended if you don't mind a bit of gore!

I've started The Desert Prince. I loved Peter V. Brett demon cycle books but I decided to hold off on buying the new series until it was completed then I came across this in the library and couldn't resist! It picks up 15 years after the last series ended.

message 672: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments I am reading The Angel of the Crows. This is the weirdest take on Sherlock Holmes I ever came across. Whatever the author took was really good stuff. I am having fun with it.

I am listening to the 2nd book of the The Mirror Visitor series. I mention this as I just realised it has been translated in English. It is a great YA fantasy series. If you ever need a translated from French book and like fantasy, look into this one.

message 673: by Cherie (new)

PattyMacDotComma Keep the dream alive! This little book is a great introduction to Martin Luther King Jr.. It's part of an excellent series to inspire little kids (and their parents!).

Author Mª Isabel Sánchez Vegara has produced an amazing library of these.

Elizabeth A.G. | 18 comments Finished The Elephant's Girl by Celesta Rimington The Elephant's Girl by Celesta Rimington.

Margo | 11628 comments I just finished Snowflake. I found it hard to put this one down. A very compelling story about a college student who is terrified that she is doomed to repeat her repeat her mothers mistakes and waste her potential. It is a sad story told with humour. Excellent narration by Louise Harland.

4.5 stars

PattyMacDotComma I loved Michael Ondaatje's much lauded Warlight, which begins in London, 1945. Bomb flashes were what lit the way for those sneaking around during curfews - criminals, spies, and kids.

Terrific read!

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I finished The Emperor's Edge. It was the oldest book on my print TBR. It was a freebie so I wasn't expecting much and I was pleasantly surprised. The books have high ratings. Still, I won't continue on with the series.

I will start Gods of Jade and Shadow when I crawl into bed.

PattyMacDotComma Apples Never Fall is the latest from Aussie author Liane Moriarty. It's a family tree of tennis players, the kind of varied group of characters she's so well-known for. I wish I'd liked it better.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I finished The Human Division. Just one more book and that series is done!

Tomorrow I will start The Mystery of Edwin Drood. This has been on my tbr forever. I wonder how I'll make out with it. I don't have much desire to read it after all this time. It looks like I shelved it in 2016.

message 698: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I DNFed Yours Cheerfully. It wasn't going anywhere after 2 hours so I gave up on it. Unfortunately I didn't give up on I Know Who You Are and ended up giving it only two stars. I was convinced that this one would get better based on the authors previous books - its didn't!

I'm now listening to 56 Days and so far it is gripping. It's my first "lockdown" story so I have high hopes for it. Anything could have happened in those first scary weeks....

message 699: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments Sorry Yours Cheerfully didn't work for you, Margo. I received a widget for that one and didn't accept it because I didn't have time to read it. Early reviews were really good, so I felt like I was missing out. Looks like maybe I didn't really miss much.

I have 56 Days on my wishlist and put in a request for the library to purchase it. Hope you love it.

I see the GR rating for Cheerfully Yours is high Kristie but I'm not sure why. I liked the first book a lot but this one just doesn't have the same tension. Hope you get hold of 56 days ;-)
