Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 10037 comments I generally don’t jump into a series at the 13th book, but I wasn’t aware, when I requested it from NetGalley, that The Silent Conversation follows twelve earlier volumes in the Anderson & Costello series by British author, Caro Ramsay. So although I was missing a lot of the characters’ backstories, I would say that it can still work as a stand-alone. The plot is certainly intriguing enough to overcome that. Excellent British crime fiction.

I keep promising myself to skip the challenges, and then I remember that it was requirements like yours that made me find books that were completely off my radar, and some were excellent!

PattyMacDotComma | 3338 comments Her Second Death (Bree Taggert #0.5) is a short-story prequel to Melinda Leigh's homicide detective Bree Taggert crime series. I had never read any of this author's work before, but I enjoyed this introduction enough to consider reading the series.

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments Another classic sci-fi book by an iconic author, J.G. Ballard (who most people know best from Empire of the Sun).

Three stars, for this dreamy novel; I think I read this one as a teen, but so long ago I did not remember it.
The Drowned World by J.G. Ballard

I would totally recommend it for people who want to read a classic sci-fi but are not interested in technology or space. People who like a strongly descriptive literary style.
