Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments I just finished my ARC from A&U New Animal by Ella Baxter

It was very much a more complex and nuanced book than I was expecting. I thought it would be a funny, Six Feet Under style book with a certain amount of easy, jokey style. It was so much more and I am still processing a somewhat.

Oh yes Dale, it's such a nice book. I've left it out for us to revisit :)

Carolyn | 9878 comments My review of The Willow Wren, an excellent account based on a real family's experience of what it was like to be a young boy growing up in Germany during WW2, and afterwards in what was to become East Germany.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 10001 comments I started reading Robert Dugoni's Tracy Crosswhite series after reading an excellent short story and some GR reviews. Then I scored #8 on NetGalley, so of course had to start with #1. Having finished #7 A Cold Trail, I'm now ready for the most recent book, In Her Tracks, due out end of April.
5★s for this one

PattyMacDotComma | 3312 comments A good read! Bitter Wash Road is the first of a series about a rural Aussie copshop run by a 'disgraced' ex-detective. (Moral: never ever rat on crooked cops.) Add me to the list of Garry Disher's fans!
Bitter Wash Road by Garry Disher 4.5★ Link to my Bitter Wash Road review

p.s. I liked it a lot better than Andrea did, because I DO believe there could be that much corruption anywhere, cynic that I am. :)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 10001 comments I've decided to ignore the embargo date for Emily Spurr's incredibly accomplished debut novel, A Million Things because everyone else seems to be ignoring it, and I can't wait to share my review. Anything else from this talented author is definitely on my TBR!
Readers should be warned, though, that certain parts will exercise the tear ducts, while others will result in snickering, giggling and out-loud laughter, so perhaps best not read in public. Highly recommended!

I got a copy through NG and there was no mention of an embargo so I'm going to review it shortly too.

Carolyn | 9878 comments The Last Thing to Burn by Will Dean The Last Thing to Burn by Will Dean is a very compelling novel about a young Vietnamese woman held captive by an abusive English farmer. I know that doesn't sound like fun reading but it's a very plausible story and so well written.
