After weeks drifting at sea, Gunner, Zon, Jessie and Pauline were rescued by strangers on a yacht. But when they arrived on American soil, everything had changed, nothing was the same. And it was crazy dangerous. People were hungry and desperate – would Gunner find his wife and daughter? Would Pauline find her fiancé? Would Zon find his father? And would Jessie find her family?

Meanwhile the rest of the survivors left on the island were counting the days Gunner and the others had been gone, wondering if they’d been lost at sea – wondering if they’d return. And they also had more problems ahead – would they all continue to survive as they had? Living off the land, fishing and collecting native fruits and coconuts; they were still hungry, but not starving. Their future was uncertain…

Final Fate is the 3rd and final episode in the Waves of Fate series by Aussie author Kendall Talbot and it was as full on and thrilling as the first two. Zon became more likeable, with Jessie by his side – they all felt like one big family. Told by Gunner and Zon on American soil, while Gabby on the island was the voice of the survivors. The Waves of Fate trilogy has been a wild ride, one which I’ve enjoyed. Recommended.

With thanks to the author for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

The final leg of the adventure that began when an EMP bomb was detonated over the US and the crew and passengers on a cruise ship out in the middle of the Pacific must figure out how to survive. Everyone has been pushed beyond what they thought they could handle and the loss of life has been prodigious. Now, the survivors who have been forged in fiery trial now must show endurance, ingenuity, and grit when they attempt to reconnect with loved ones and rescue those left behind. The stakes are high just like a final book should offer.

Gunnar, Pauline, Zon and Jessie are on a mission to get back to the States, connect with their families, and return to rescue those left on the island. They had no idea that crossing the stormy, unpredictable sea would be the easy part. Gunnar and Zon have gone head to head since the beginning and it was fascinating seeing them have to work through the antagonism to achieve a common goal. But, it was Jessie who really stepped up. She took all she had learned from her Prepper dad and guided them through the roiling disaster that awaited them on land.

Meanwhile, Madeline and Gabby along with the others on the island are convinced the rescue team are not coming back. Madeline has been holding Gabby’s profession against her, but a tiny discovery might be the means of her letting the past go so the women can be friends. Gabby’s seizures without her meds are getting worse, but she hides the weakness even as she steps up and shows she is no longer a woman utterly driven by her career and out of touch with what really matters. Her past when she shared about it with Madeline is a stunner. But, the islanders have more to face when another boat is sighted. By now, they are not the soft, incompetent, ship of individuals, but have melded as friends, family, and fellow survivors so it was exciting to see them working together to do what it takes to keep everyone and their supplies safe.

As with the previous books, the author showed just how much she researched and analyzed what such a mega disaster would do to a country and people. How it all would fall apart? How it would play out? And, the struggles to rebuild even in this modern era. It is eerily accurate and plausible. This final book revealed what survivors in a country dependent on tech without it’s tech behave and do. Humanity is stripped to its true face and most of it isn’t pretty or polite.

So much happens, but I liked how the series concluded. I got to know the characters and really vested in their lives as they revealed who they were and changed under the circumstances. That Zon remained my favorite all the way- calling it the way he sees it and pragmatic to the core. There is hope, but it is flavored with the weary knowledge of what has been and what has to happen. Loss is acknowledged, but so is what is gained. Again, I applaud this book and series and think those who love action adventure, mega disasters, and post-apocalyptic stories should grab this trilogy.

My thanks to the author for an eARC copy to read in exchange for an honest review.

This series is heart-pounding and just a little too real because it could happen and are we prepared?

The final book in this trilogy brings a conclusion to the life that these survivors have had over the last 6 months. Having to fend for themselves using skills they may or may not have had, interpersonal relationships, and perhaps an introspective look into their own life and changes they could or should make to be better people.

Gunner, Zon, Jessica, and Pauline have made it to the United States but are not prepared for what they discover. They have been told that it isn't pretty but with an EMP knocking out all communications, it is hard to know who is in charge and what is being done. It is every man for themself and watch out for those that will take from you what they want.

The action doesn't stop in this book as the crew makes their way to find their families. It is pure luck that Gunner finds his wife and daughter but it wasn't easy to get to them or find them. Jessica's family (the preppers) had their own issues and you could say the stress of hiding out or staying inside could be stressful.

I'm still not a huge Zon fan, but he continues to redeem himself, and while still brash and crude, he is softening a little bit and isn't afraid to step in and protect those around him despite his better judgment sometimes.

While these four are trying to get help for the rest on the island, those are the island are not left out of this book. They have their own issues to deal with including unwanted intruders.

I don't want to spoil any of the revelations in the book, but I thought their decisions were interesting and I can see why they would have made the choices they did in the end. There is something of a happy ending but it just leaves more questions for me as to what life might be like for those affected by the EMP and if the world can come together and put back together what is broken.

This is a fantastic series and I loved every moment. It was hard for me to put any of them down. So far this is one of my favorites of 2021.

We of course give it 5 paws up and highly recommend the series.

In book 3 of the series, some of the characters make a dangerous journey back to the USA. They have some help on the way and manage to return to Gunner's home town, but they find it smashed up and ruined, with feral people wandering around and attacking anyone who they can steal from.

The suspension of disbelief is somewhat strained, with a certain character managing to team up with various missing members of his family. Not to mention another character managing to come p with not only an old plane that will still fly but a pilot. No matter how many perils face the characters, they win through with lots of luck thrown in. However, it was a page turner and I was willing to overlook these aspects while reading.

There is still quite a bit of wallowing by various characters about their deep seated traumas, but luckily there is far more action. Zon does at last redeem himself, and seems to become a much nicer person in this, a process that started in book 2 and is triggered by his growing relationship with Jesse. I wasn't sure how much I believed that someone so selfish and callous - and also thick as two planks, given his stealing of chips from the casino in book 1 - has such a transformation.

At the end of the book I was more in sympathy with his doubts about returning to the USA: given how the people there reacted to the arrival of anyone who might have something worth killing them to steal, it didn't seem likely that the government would be able to protect those who returned. But this had a much better momentum and interweaving of the various character plotlines, so I would award it 3 stars.

This was a little more interesting than the second book, it divides the chapters between those who remain on the island and those who went to look for help. The tedious, repetitious, inner monologues remain, so I ended up skimming a lot.

Any sort of "realness" the author was going for went out the window in this book, especially for those off the island. America is utter chaos and starvation, but our survivors have nothing but one lucky break after another. It was so unbelievable! It felt like I was a kid again watching The A-Team, where the bullets are constantly flying but no one ever gets shot.

The biggest thing that stood out to me after this series was this: On a cruise ship with amenities for over a thousand people, when they abandoned ship there was not one person who thought to grab a bar of soap? Some shampoo? Maybe an extra pair of socks?

Final Fate by Kendall Talbot
Waves of Fate #3

Riveting read that had me flipping pages quickly to find out what would happen to those left on the island and the four that left to search for a way to bring them all home to the USA. What would they face? Would they survive? Would they find the family that were not with them on the cruise liner? What secrets would come out? Would they find the mental and physical strength they would need and just how would they all end up at the end of this portion of their journey? All of these questions and more kept me reading hoping for answers and for a happy ending for the characters I grew to consider friends.

What I liked:
* The people on the yacht that scooped the four from their dire predicament – they didn’t have to be kind, but they were and in being kind they showed that there were a few good people left in a chaotic world.
* The dual storyline of those left behind on the island and that of the four who make it to the USA to find a way to rescue everyone.
* That I cared about the outcome.
* Feeling immersed in the story.
* Being able to identify with the characters.
* Being allowed to see the thought processes of the characters.
* Thinking about what I would have done in the shoes of the various characters.
* Watching the growth and development of more than one in the story.
* Admiring the selflessness of more than one.
* That it was realistic.
* Thinking about what it would be like if something like this were to happen now – and wondering how I would fare.
* The way the decision was made to “rescue” everyone.
* Thinking about the future of those that managed to survive.

What I didn’t like:
* Knowing that when survival is the line for self and loved ones it is more than likely people will not abide by current laws but instead do whatever it takes…no matter what.
* Thinking about the type of person(s) that would perpetrate an EMP or other terrorist attack.
* Having to say goodbye to the characters and wondering how they will manage in the future.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author/in this series? Definitely

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

OMG! What an ending! Everything comes to a wonderful conclusion, plenty of happy endings and revelations. Amazing to think what our world can become without electricity and leadership. The guys on the island created a beautiful place to live. Once in America, Gunner and crew experience the horrors of what people are capable of when starving and desperate. This was a fabulous series from the cruise ship to the island to America. Told from the view of a few people we get a deeper understanding of their adventure and heart ache. A non stop ride of thrills, suspense and a little love for our hearts. I was lucky to receive an early copy from the author and have written my review voluntarily.

Final Fate is the last book in this series. This tale follows the adventures of four of the survivors of the Rose of the Sea, Gunner, Pauline, Zon, and Jessie, as they finally arrive on the shores of the United States hoping to reach the military to rescue their fellow castaways. Quite fortunately, Gunner, Zon, and Jessie are united with family and friends, but find that the post-EMP states are too dangerous, and their tropical island is by far the better choice. They encounter exciting adventures as they journey to find an old plane large enough to return to their friends on Pelicia Island. Interspersed are the adventures of the survivors who have stayed behind on their tropical island. I did find that the language in this book was considerably saltier than the other two, which I'm not a big fan of F Bombs. However, this is a great read, and the author left enough in the end to where some spin-off stories could come about. I would love to see one or more of the main characters starring in another book. I think this book would also make a great movie. I highly recommend it.

Terrific final book in this series and I loved every one of them. Not at all your typical "end of the world" disaster saga. The characters must escape a sinking cruise ship, and survive on an uninhabited island. A handful of the survivors make their way to the U.S. in an effort to get help for the remaining island survivors. I loved all the characters. No super-heroes in this bunch, no "survivalists," with all the answers, just regular people from all walk of life trying to survive together. As they face many dangers and challenges the characters grow and develop, examining what they've lost, what they have and what is really important in their lives.

Final Fate, the third and final installment in The Waves of Fate series, was a heart wrenching, pulse pounding exciting read.

These poor characters have literally been through hell trying to survive what was thrown at them so far, and Final Fate brought even more heartbreaking twists, turns and hurdles for the characters.

I highly highly HIGHLY recommend this series if you enjoy thrillers and post apocalyptic reads.

Book two: Feral Fate ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Stuck on a deserted island, a few of the survivors take off in a small boat to try to get help. They eventually make it back to America. But it is in turmoil. People are desperate to survive. Killing anyone to get food and water. They find a way to return to the island. This final novel in the series will keep you reading unable to put it down.

In this series, Kendall managed to kill off more than one person for every page in all 3 books and still had a few survivors to go home. But home was no longer what it once was, so how does Kendall solve that problem? You'll have to read the book to find out. But do yourself a favour, read all 3 books in order so that you get the full impact of the disaster epic. It will be time well spent.

My Musings

Wow, just wow! This is an amazing book and a fantastic end to this incredible series. The characters showed a great deal of growth. Each and everyone of them. Son went from a complete thug who didn't care about anyone to a true hero. This is a true testament to the right partner making all the difference in the world.
If you enjoy thrillers with complex characters and a plot that will have crying, laughing and sighing then this is one you don't want to pass over. It will meet you reading as fast as you can. Happy reading!

I had a love/hate relationship with this final book in an edge of your seat series.

I loved that I finally got to discover the final fate of our group of survivors - and hated that the adventure has come to an end.

Author, Kendall Talbot, has dug into her very soul to produce a range of characters who nurture, protect and kill to survive. One of the main characters,Zon, is truly a horrible horrible person in the first book, but eventually I was rooting for him - was absolute growth in him even though he retained his essence of self serving - but it didn’t matter, I came to understand the person he was at the end of this story.

More people die - the USA has descended into an utter hell hole as the rescue team arrive to find their loved ones and see if they can all return to live again. There are no laws - and very little humanity left.

Back on the island those waiting for the survey team to give the OK to relocate back to the USA and civilisation, life not that much better. Other people want to take over the island. Characters dig into their gumption to protect their children and stores.

So is there a happy every after, could there possibly even BE a happy ever after? Well, you’ll just have to read it for yourself and discover how the series starts and how it ends.

Is the USA scenario possible - well I read this book in a single sitting one afternoon while US citizens were storming the US Capitol building. Watching the scenes on TV, I realised how easy it would be for a nation, not just the US - any country, to descend into anarchy.

Suddenly fiction didn’t seem so fictional any more.

Utterly recommend this series.

Final Fate is the third and final book in the Waves of Fate trilogy and is a gripping story.

This post-apocalyptic EMP survival thriller captured my attention from the first and kept it to the end while finding out what happened to the survivors from the Rose of the Sea. Two groups survived; one on-island and one off-island - who will truly survive in the new America?

It was really interesting to get some of the background on the survivors and see just what made them who they are and why they did what they did. This is an enthralling trilogy and sure to be a favourite for post-apocalyptic story lovers.
I read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book with no obligation.

This 3rd and Final thriller of the Fate Series kept me goin' and goin' and goin', like a toy drum-beating bunny with a long-life battery! And like the first two Fate books, it continues to deliver heart-pounding events with those characters that have become so realistic you'll never forget them. Some you love, and some you may not, and some that you didn't like will become very likeable and may even steal your heart. This entire story is so well written and described, it feels like it could really happen -- precisely why it's the nail-biter you can't put down. As I was reading about the disastrous chaos of the apocalyptic EMP over North America, and then the people still stranded on a tiny island, like a speck in the big Pacific Ocean, I wondered how the author could even bring this story to an end, as she has done so well in all her many previous and well-written books -- but she pulls it off with this thrilling trilogy once again, and perfectly! My honest opinion - it's an unbeatable masterpiece, 5 stars for each of the 3 books = 15 stars in total! I can't say enough kudos for this series except that if you are looking for a real thriller, don't miss reading these! And please read them in order! First Fate, Feral Fate, Final Fate - you will not be disappointed!

All too easy & convenient….

This series went from an extremely weak beginning in Book 1. To a fantastic adventure in Book 2. To a conclusion in Book 3 which was simply- for the most part - uninspired.
Everything was just too …. easy. Convenient. And worked out just fine.
But ONLY for our characters.
The rest of humanity? Everyone else, on the other hand, they are the ones who, “never seemed to get there in the nick of time.”
(Lol Even animals, now that I think of it…)
Our characters are … a bit … extra.
99% of the time missing bullets fired @ them, able to steal or take things others tried but always failed (GROUPS tried, but a SINGLE one of ours succeeds), impossible rescues, etc…
Along with annoying decisions made by the supposedly savviest among them. Just to support the author’s plot. Such actions took me right out of the story every time they were so unbelievable.
(Not a spoiler as it has ZERO bearing on anything…)
Example is a vet, giving up & into a bully, when his entire family’s life & safety is hanging in the balance. He has opportunity to sneak off & grab a weapon he chooses to hide on his person, but not to use. Just eye-rolling really.
Then, there’s a fantastic little scene where “the ladies” are told to wait behind (in the dark, sans even 1 weapon) while the menfolk run ahead into the non-extreme gun fight.
Ummm …. 2 of the 3 women have YEARS more weapons experience than 1 out of the 3 men running ahead. That 1 man, in fact, has about close to zero experience with weapons. And even urges the group not to, “kill anyone if they don’t have to.”
Ummm….. Once again, I’m ripped from the story over the ridiculous nature of this situation. (Especially as none of the women say anything, ha!)
In this very scene, the same male character immediately “lays down” & is willing to give the bad guys 1000% of anything they want (even if not “his” but other’s who he’s just recently met) rather than fight.
This male character has driven me crazy this entire series anyway, with his naivety. You’d THINK he’d have learned SOMETHING by Book 3?? With how he grew up, how he’s even “naive” at all in the 1st place doesn’t even track.
I feel bad for his wife. In the “new apocalyptic world” — once(if?) his little family isn’t being protected by a group any longer they won’t last a week. Unless, of course, he “allows” his wife to take the reigns, as she did just fine on her own with him absent.
So! Overall - it’s a series I could have happily skipped.
The constant regurgitation of every character’s childhood trauma continued from Book 1 - straight on through till the end. Though it, thankfully, lessened as we went along.
By Book 3 it was more thoughtfully woven into the character’s thoughts/individual chapters.
Also, this series is for sure an, “exciting travel romance,” rather than anything in the apocalyptic or dystopian genre.
Book 2, however - you can rightfully tack on, “adventure” to it! As there is so much exciting & creative writing therein. Action, adrenaline.
So in the end, it just depends what your favorite genre is; what you’re interested in reading next.
If you are seeking something chock full of repetitive (verbatim often) trauma stories, this is the series for you! For a of couple characters- the old repetitive stuff takes up more printed space than fresh material.
You may be seeking characters who are are pretty much absolutely clueless as to what will occur when/if there’s a large, cascading disaster in the U.S./world. In an extremely annoying fashion.
AND, as a bonus they’re either extra clueless, not that intelligent, &/or in denial about how this will affect THEM, personally.
“No, ma’am, when picturing a doomsday scenario, IF you can finally get home, YOUR house & entire extended fam & friends won’t be ‘the only one’ standing there, with lawn all green, & mowed, pool guy having just left, InstaGroc also just left having filled your larder for you…”
pfffttt.
Yes. THESE are the characters in this book.
WITH a group of preppers who happen to be with them too. (Read: “wealth of knowledge.”) Does ANYONE believe a word “the prepper group” has to say? You already know.
Ok! So .. & if you enjoy your stories to be completely unrealistic & if you have the ability to suspend disbelief right alongside the characters when they need something like, “a polar bear, a monkey, a snowmobile, & a Frenchman….” while standing in the middle of a desert- & you get them all. You’re set!
Now, say you’re checking said needs off your list. NOT being in ABSOLUTE AWE (as you should? probably?), & thanking your stars for such a miraculous occurrence - would seem odd, I think?
I mean, I’ve read TONS of books where lucky breaks happen. Of course. But this series? It’s what the plot’s based on. (And that gets dull.)
It’s a verrrryyy slow to get started (plodding), travel romance, intro to apocalyptic reading, “oh poor me,” average American way of thinking (“the government will take care of me” lol), with the goal of being a happy ending story, I believe.

Awesome series- needs an American editor

I couldn’t put this series down. Earlier this week I emailed the author because I couldn’t get past her calling the bartenders on the cruise ship, “barmaids.” Eventually I realized she wasn’t diminishing or patronizing their occupation; but that she isn’t American, herself, and, despite choosing to portray the characters as Americans, she hadn’t had an American proof-read her work before publishing. The books are well-written and, almost entirely free of spelling, punctuation and grammar errors (except for stylistic reasons,) and the author is a vivid story-teller, bringing compelling characters to life and tying them together in a captivating tale. That’s why the juxtaposition felt so distracting to me. Despite making a good effort to keep my suspension of disbelief engaged, the un-American terminology kept jumping out at me, which I found distracting and annoying. I’m perturbed and confused how someone so detail-oriented, who obviously did an immense amount of research, not just on EMPs and the predicted ensuing chaos of TEOTWAWKI, but also on pre-computerized war planes and other vehicles, South Pacific and West Coast geography, the American government, etc, could so blatantly miss such obvious differences in British or Australian English vs. American English. Besides barmaid vs. bartender, she describes fries as chips and calls chips, crisps. She uses “sewerage” rather than “sewage.” Jennifer would not have been called “Cheekybottom” by her first family, but possibly “sassy pants” or “stinker butt” would have worked. Instead of “you lot are mental,” Americans would say “you guys” or “you all/y’all” are “crazy/nuts/insane.” Zon’s dad would have said he always was a serious boy, not lad. Sykes, and apparently Adelle, wouldn’t have wished for “tea and cookies.” No one would do anything “quick smart,” but maybe “real quickly,” or “right quick.” We don’t call men, Blokes. That should be replaced with “guy” or “dude.” Instead of “grug,” we drink “booze.” Also she describes things as being “confronting” multiple times but I’m not sure what she meant by that at all. Maybe astounding. She writes “have done” in a way that isn’t American. Oh yes, the “cot-sized” mattress should be “crib-sized.” In America, babies sleep in cribs, newborns sleep in cradles and a “cot” is a temporary bed for military, day care centers or preschools or camping. Oh, and the survivors were waiting to be “repatriated,” not “expatriated” back to America, which occasionally should have been termed “the US,” or simply, “home.” Calling it America every time was just another subtle hint the author wasn’t American, which is fine, of course! I’m not trying to criticize the author or the books. These weren’t free books, and the fact that I eagerly paid $5 each to read them, over all the free books available on Kindle Unlimited shows how much I enjoyed the series, but it would have been so much better if an American had proof-read them, first. I would love to do it, if the author doesn’t take offense to my constructive criticism. I hope she continues this series. I would love to read more about America’s fresh start and how the survivors cope and recover back home. In particular, I very much respected and enjoyed Zon’s redemption arc and I would love to see his no-nonsense approach turned towards politics and a leadership role in government or perhaps as a foreign diplomat trying to re-engage America’s allies! Please keep writing Kendall, quick smart!

Final Fate is the third and final book in the Waves of Fate trilogy by Kendall Talbot. In the description it asked this question, “In a world of disorder, will the remaining passengers from Rose of the Sea ever make it home?” The bigger question maybe is their previous home a place that is worth going home too. This addictive series is one that I would recommend reading from the beginning. When you do you will see that Gunner’s one burning desire is to find his family in the US. It is by no means a given that he will. In the South US we have a saying about be careful not jump from the frying pan only to fall into the fire. No matter how careful that is exactly what happens to!

This book is split between Gunner and those few with him who went seeking help in the United States and those still on the island. Life is not easy for any of the two groups with all facing constant danger and threats. The novel goes back and forth between the two groups. Some of the chapters ended with big cliffhangers so when it would switch to the island, I would be concerned about what could be happening to Gunner’s group. Then when it would switch to Gunner’s group, I would be wondering, anxious if honest to find out what was happening on the island. Truly this author knows how to bait, hook, and reel you into the story!

This is science fiction/ speculative fiction at its best. All the books have tightly woven plots hat cumulate in Final Fate. The past is revealed for some of the characters so that I understood how they became the people that they did and why they reacted how they did. Still others rose way above what I had thought that they were capable of because of their pasts. So yes, while this is a tense, but thrilling, action packed story, it is also a study in human nature; the good, the flawed and the vile. The entire series is 5+ stars but I loved Final Fate because of the hope after so much dismay.

The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Kendall Talbot completes her Fate trilogy with Final Fate and all of the action and tension that she brought to the first two novels continues as Gunnar and his companions finally return to a United States that is barely recognizable. After an EMP attack and a crash destroyed the cruise ship where Gunnar served as first officer, the captain’s death forced him to take charge. The ship was abandoned by 72 surviving passengers and crew and eventually they found land. Discovering that the island where they landed was uninhabited, the second book explores the survivors’ changing relationships as they learn to survive in primitive conditions. Through it all, Gunnar vowed to find a way home to his family and ensure the survival of the castaways.

When they are able to retrieve a damaged sailboat that is adrift near the island, repairs are made and Gunnar sets out along with a member of his crew, Zon, an alligator hunter who has saved Gunnar on several occasions, and Jessie, the daughter of a survivalist. A perilous journey, a rescue by a passing yacht and dire warnings about the state of civilization in America will keep you turning the pages. With food shortages and massive property destruction they race to find whether loved ones have survived and their own survival looks doubtful. Back on the island, the survivors face challenges of their own. When pirates arrive, they must work together to face this new challenge and it ends in tragedy.

Talbot’s story is one of not only survival and loss, but also one of love and hope. It is a roller coaster of a ride that has you holding your breath as you wait to see who will survive and who will be lost. Her scenes of destruction and savagery in America are heartbreaking and you find yourself becoming emotionally involved with her characters. I have enjoyed this series from the opening pages of the first book and would recommend this series to anyone who looks for thrills when they open the pages of a book.

I received a copy of this book from the author and was more than happy to offer my review.

Final Fate by Kendall Talbot is a superb work of art tying up the 1st two volumes of Waves of Fate series to bring a successful conclusion to this amazing trilogy. What started out as an ordinary sea cruise of approximately 1900+ passengers and crew leaving Hawaii turns into their ultimate nightmares. Trying to outrun a hurricane becomes almost the least of their problems as compared to the two EMPs that were to soon follow. Throw in as many seemingly impossible stressful situations as you can think of (and then some!!!) and you are on your way to a most exciting, scary, nail biting and overall stressful adventure of your life !!!

While waiting to read the final entry in this trilogy I oft wondered how Ms. Talbot could possibly bring this story to a viable ending. Especially since having to abandon their ship in such dire circumstances; floating in life rafts in the middle of the ocean for days on end; winding up on a deserted island; and eventually repair a broken down sailing vessel for four members of the island to try to reach Hawaii and save them all. And this only touches on the difficulties encountered by the survivors.

But you haven't seen anything yet! How about a final catastrophic adventure at sea looking like it is surely the end of the line for our four heroes; a rescue at sea; being banned by their own country; your worst nightmare waiting if and when you make land; and a whole different set of seemingly impossible and incomprehensible situations and roadblocks if by some miracle they succeed in getting "home". Don't wait to pickup your copy of Final Fate (and the rest of the series if you haven't read them). You will have a hard time trying to put any of these books down once you start reading them !!! A voyage to hell - exciting and keeps you guessing !!!

What a terrific trilogy by Kendall Talbot - don't miss out !!! She definitely leaves you wanting more !!!

That darn EMP just keeps on giving and giving. I don't believe much of it is good either, other than the friendships that develop among the cruise ship survivors.
Going on about three months after the EMP, a small group of island survivors heads back to America. Gunner leads the group as he is hellbent on locating his wife and daughter. Nothing could prepare him for America after the EMP. I found the devastation to be well beyond anything I could imagine as well. I had problems with the level of destruction brought on in America by its own citizens. Their lack of ability to cope was as startling as was the lack of services they had access to. All clothing is gone. Everyone is in rags. There are occasional government food drops but no apparent organization.
This book was written before the storming of the Capitol in Washington DC in January 2021 but this tale could easily have been our country overtaken by lawless rebels.
Personally, I'd would hurry back to the island, or some other island, for a chance for survival.
I found it to be very disconcerting to see how ragged all the survivors were after only a few months post EMP. They'll be naked in no time if they don't find more clothes. There's nothing related to the EMP that I can see that would explain why everyone is in rags. I was disappointed in how this final book ended. I think better of the survivors and their abilities to cope than the book gives them credit for.

Final Fate - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Two nuclear detonations trigger EMPs that wipe out all technology in the US in Final Fate, by Kendall Talbot, as told in dual storylines.

Captain Thomas Hutchings and his crew rescue Captain Gunner McCrae, Pauline Gennaro, Jessie and Zon, from their wrecked cruise ship. Though he gets them ashore using his helicopter, he's unable to rescue other survivors, from the deserted island they were unfortunately left on.
What dangers do the 'castaways' face?

On the mainland once more, the dangers increase as McCrae finds his home destroyed, while his beloved wife and daughter have gone with her father who can protect them, leaving supplies and information for Gunner in their former attic refuge.
Will Gunner be reunited with his family?

Despairing of the US's lawless state and all the destruction everywhere, Gunner, (having been able to find his wife and daughter) goes with the others in the group, to get his father Hank, work out a way to get themselves back to the tiny island and join other survivors from the ship there.
What do they have to do to get there?

Kendall Talbot really keeps the drama and riveting storyline shocking, tense and challenging throughout Final Fate, right up to the great conclusion of the Waves of Fate series.

Ok, so I've read all 3 of this Trilogy now and I couldn't put these books down! They were absolutely thrilling and quite a nail-biting experience. Each of the characters had their own stories going on in the background and had to deal with so much baggage from their pre-apocalypse lives while having to learn how to survive being literally thrown into a world with chaos & death all around them. The scariest part of these books is the thought in the back of your mind that these things could actually happen and the world, as most people know it, would be thrown into something so chaotic it's difficult to comprehend. It appears the author has done a LOT of research into the effects of EMP strikes on a world that wholly depends on electricity, communications, infrastructure, satellites & clean water. I absolutely loved the main characters and especially the Zon, whose personality changes completely as the story progresses. He really gave me some smiles throughout. It is absolutely edge of your seat reading and I totally would recommend these books for people that enjoy this type of story.

Our band of intrepid survivors send a small party to try and reach help for those remaining on their deserted island. The four who go out are ultimately picked up by a yacht and are horrified to learn that America is at war with itself. But in spite of that, they go back to search for loved ones and find help for those left on Pelicia Island. What they find is not what they expected.

Action packed scenes, near death experiences, and a final escape will have the reader riveted to the edge of the seat. This book picks up exactly at the end of book #2 so there is no guessing as to what happens in between. This reader likes that Zon (character) who starts out as a badass kind of guy is redeemed by series end. Each of the main characters grows internally and makes for good reading between the action scenes. I thought the ending was a bit rushed - there could have been another 10 or 15 pages, but since the story is set in the near future (2023) that might have been a bit difficult. I also thought this was the best of the three books. Writing was still a bit awkward but the action keeps the reading going. Will try another book by this author in the near future.

Final Segment of Fantastic Apocalyptic Adventure
This book is the last in a series of three books concerned with survival of a catastrophic EMP blast that takes out all the electronics. And that is not just cell phones, but everything in modern society. This is the best disaster story I have read in a long time. It seems absolutely correct from a scientific standpoint. And it also seems spot-on with all of the personalities, inner strengths, inner weaknesses, and the limits of man shown in the story. I personally thought it was missing the belief in God that disasters tend to bring out. But that is my only negative thought about the whole series. I know that I will read all three books again, back-to-back, in a few weeks. This series would make the best TV show, movie or mini-series. It is somewhat of a cross between The Last Ship and Mad Max. I received this ARC for free from the author and this is my honest opinion.

I received an advance copy of this book from the author. The book tells the tale of what happens after four of the survivors set off to try and reach mainland USA and bring back rescuers in the form of the US Navy. Things don’t go according to plan as when they arrive in the US, people have turned into virtual savages with little food or water available. There is no government or law enforcement and every building, whether private or commercial, has been trashed by looters and vandals. Reunions between some of the four and their family and friends leads to an audacious plan to return to the island until things get better. Those left behind wait and wait for someone to turn up and take them home but all they get is pirates until the four return with extra family, friends and some people they just couldn’t leave behind. A good end to the trilogy with the usual ups and downs and lots of suspense.

This is the thrilling conclusion to the Waves of Fate series and I loved it. The survivors of the EMP from the cruise ship who landed on the deserted island are now split into two groups. Gunner, Pauline, Zon and Jessie took a small boat trying to find someone to help rescue the survivors. That leaves the rest of the survivors on the island. The story goes back and forth between these two groups and what happens to them. It's exciting and thrilling, heartbreaking and uplifting, all at the same time. I felt what all these people were going thru, the good and the bad, and when Zon finally called Gunner "Gunner" instead of his crass nickname for him, I actually had a tear in my eye. I will miss these characters, even brash Zon, but it was definitely a great adventure that I would recommend.

Wow what an ending to a fantastic trilogy. We all wonder how we would cope if our world was thrown into disarray. Well Kendall Talbot tells it how it might be.
The book has two voices, those that head back to the USA and those left on the island.
It was hard to put it down to get some sleep especially when the chapter you were reading ended on a cliffhanger!!
This series has been such an addictive read and for those who love post apocalyptic stories then this is absolutely right up your alley.
The characters are so well written and yes they have flaws but that is what makes it fun to read.
In some ways the story was scary as well, we only have to watch the news to see that we live in a dangerous World that can change in a moment and bad things do happen.
I totally recommend just putting the kettle on and start at book 1 and just keep going.
