Nice! I have 4 full size bookshelves and 3 smaller ones that are jammed (double and triple stacked with books, with more piled on top). I'm just renting otherwise I would have a carpenter come in and build more.

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) I finished the OG (Original Gothic) novel

The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole
The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole

and I started reading

The Great God Pan and Other Horror Stories by Arthur Machen
The Great God Pan and Other Horror Stories by Arthur Machen

Neither of these are traditional "mystery" books but they may have some appeal to some readers who enjoy mystery books.

walk-in closets are easily convertible into book storage. I know, because I've repurposed three of them. Whoever sleeps in our guest room has science fiction/fantasy in their closet.

:)

CBRetriever | 2551 comments aha, I have one smaller than 5X7" devices weighing less than half a pound with 500+ books on it and another 2300+ books stored on my Amazon account. No problems with space except for the 4 bookcases of cookbooks.

and to keep on topic, I'm continuing on with Sara Paretsky's series and I'm currently on Fire Sale. These can actually be read in any order.

Thomas (tom471) | 2003 comments I read The Various Haunts of Men by Susan Hill I found it to be too slow moving for my taste.
It is a mystery set in present day England. I rated it 3.5 stars rounded down. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 1860: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma | 920 comments Practice reading English with a good story! Canadian author Louise Penny wrote The Hangman for a Canadian literacy project. This short novella is #6.5 in the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series, written in simpler language but still with our favourite characters in Three Pines. It's an excellent choice for adults learning to read and/or learning English. Great project!

Kerstin (truecrimebuff) | 2 comments I finished Verkanseld (do not know the english Word. But in Swedish it is a military term when to start shooting).
It is the last book in a triology by Louise Boije af Gennäs.
The series is about a Young woman who comes to Stockholm after university studies and a year in a military. She has been raped and want to start over.
It is a lot of conspirasies. It would take forever to review the book. But I can say it was not the best book in the series.

Araych | 676 comments First Frost First Frost (Detective Jack Frost Prequel, #1) by James Henry by James Henry

Continuation of the Frost series by the late R. D. Wingfield. This is a rather complicated English police procedural taking place in 1981. Lots of players and moving parts. I remember the Frost TV series but I have never read the Wingfield books. I thought this book was OK.

Except for the new floors (which will happen the 12th of November) the kitchen remodel was finished yesterday so I should be able to do that. Let's shoot for November 15 as a start date. I'll start a thread just prior to that.

Fethering #6, OK to read as a standalone. Carole's son is getting married and you know that won't go smoothly. Rather a modern cozy series. This entry is very likable but I had it figured our pretty early. Still, 3 stars -- easy to read.

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 421 comments Mr. Churchill's Secretary is an entertaining read with some debut jitters, featuring a main character who's decent company. With ten installments in this, the Maggie Hope series, the author seems to be giving enough readers what they want. I enjoyed the time I spent with Maggie rather more than I did my fling with Maisie Dobbs. 3.6 stars.
