Clarissa writes historical fiction set mainly in Victorian and Edwardian England. She has been fascinated by all things Victorian since she was a child: the clothes, the elaborate social rituals, the gap between rich and poor, the dizzying pace of advancements in science and technology. When it was time to choose a major in university, she had trouble deciding between history and English literature because she really just wanted to study the Victorians. Ultimately, she chose English and earned a PhD specializing in nineteenth-century British literature.

Her novels pay homage to her favourite Victorian authors: the Brontë sisters, George Eliot, Thomas Hardy, and Frances Hodgson Burnett. Her favourite living authors include Diane Setterfield,

Hi Emily,
Thanks for your question and for letting me know you enjoyed IMPOSSIBLE SAINTS! I'm definitely writing other books, and they're all at different stages of development. I can't say too much about this yet, but I have written a companion novel to IMPOSSIBLE SAINTS with some of the same characters. I'll post again here and on my website www.clarisaharwood.com as soon as I can share more information!

I'm editing my answer to add that I can now reveal the happy news that my second novel BEAR NO MALICE will be published in January 2019! You can find more information about it in my new blog post: http://www.clarissaharwood.com/the-di...(less)

Introducing Mimi Matthews (and a book giveaway)

[image error]I’m overjoyed to be interviewing fellow author Mimi Matthews this week, whose Victorian-set romance Fair as a Star was released July 14 (the same day as the paperback of my own Bear No Malice). Mimi and I have a lot in common, so I love that we we’re collaborating and celebrating our release week together!

Mimi’s novel A Modest Independence was one of the top five books I read in 2019,

Bear No Malice by Clarissa Harwood
"I didn’t really know what to expect, it didn’t seem like a book I would read. I was surprised and pleasantly so! It did get slow in spots and I really wanted to smack the h sometimes. But I enjoyed the characters and descriptions of scenes. "

More of Clarissa's books…
“She wore her beauty as if it were a medal she had won for fighting in a war she didn’t remember—it was her duty to display it, yet she seemed vaguely puzzled by its existence.”
Clarissa Harwood, Bear No Malice

“She could have made an independent life for herself, instead of being stuck in this horrid village forever.” “Like you?” Lilia blinked. “I went to Girton.” “I know. But you’re back, ‘stuck in this horrid village,’ aren’t you? Why do you stay here?”
