This second book in the 'Captain Chase' series opens soon after the dramatic conclusion of the first novel Quantum. The stories should be read in order.
Chase is a NASA scientist and investigator who's tasked with taking down an evil woman.
Good story but too much tech talk. 3 stars

I enjoy this series very much.

An entertaining start to a new series. Here’s a link to my 3.5 star review:

I really, REALLY hate the new GR book page format. The old one was so easy to use and you could go right to the edition of the book you'd actually read. Plus, editing your post was so much simpler -- I discovered today after trying to figure things out that I had to click the date to make a quick revision.
Anyway, decided to skip the reread of Double Indemnity and go straight to Laura by Vera Caspary.

Excellent book.

I'm looking forward to it. And I managed to be able to leave the beta version of the GR book pages, so I'm back to normal here.

The Language of Power (The Steerswoman, #4)
Bigfoot and the Bodhisattva = short story
Tor.com Short Fiction January–February 2021 = 6 short stories
The Lost Steersman (The Steerswoman, #3)
The Year's Best Military SF & Space Opera (The Year's Best of Military and Adventure Science Fiction Stories Book 1)
Hollow Man
and only the last one is a mystery. I'm working on the third book in this four book omnibus: The Jake Grafton Collection: The Intruders, The Minotaur, Under Siege, and The Red Horseman.

Looking forward to reading your review of Laura. I adore the movie (and recently rewatched it), but haven't read the book yet.

The last book I read was SHIVER and it was really good! By Allie Reynolds- I would recommend as it was a classic mystery with a cool snowy setting and romance subplot. Any questions let me know 🙃

It's officially more Dystopian or SF, but it is actually a thriller too.

I started Laura last night. I don't think Waldo Lydecker and I are going to get along well.

Preach."
Click on any book, and at the top of the page you should see an option to try out the beta version. It looks slick but in my opinion, the new design loses a lot of functionality.

I'm not crazy about it either. I had to change search engines just to use it properly since Internet Explorer gets error messages when I enter the name of a book. (It looks a lot like the Barnes and Noble online style; maybe that's where they got the idea.)

This is the first book in the Meg Langslow cozy mystery series, which has been going strong for many years. The story arc has come a long way since this initial tale, and I enjoyed seeing where it all began.
Entertaining cozy mystery. 3.5 stars

I finished reading Laura by Vera Caspary late yesterday, then watched the film. The book I loved, the movie was not nearly as good.

Police procedural Berlin 1944. A Jewish ex-police detective ( no Jewish cops in Berlin 1944) is recalled to duty to find a serial killer. The plot, the characters, the setting are all fine but the book comes out second to the Bernie Gunther series set in the same milieu. 3 stars.

There was just too much of the human factor missing in the film that the book does so very very well. I'll be posting about it likely tomorrow.

I was curious about both du Maurier's creative process and underlying thoughts while writing Rebecca as well as the author herself.

There's one particular scene in this book that tells you everything you need to know about the killer long before the person's identity is revealed (and also who that person is just from what the scene reveals). That would have made for quality screen time but sadly it wasn't included.

I have not read the book but the movie was just ok, not a classic as I had been led to believe.

I love the film, but perhaps that is because I find Gene Tierney so compelling to watch. The film has a very noir feel, which I am not sure that the book shares. I generally feel that the book is almost always better than the movie, with a few exceptions.
