Clear the Shelves - 2021

Just cleared another ebook - Beautiful Ruinsby Jess Walter. I likely would have had a different experience with this book if I had read it when it originally came out in 2013. But there are some aspects of the book that don’t age well. The author highlights issues in Hollywood that would come to greater light in the Metoo movement, but it’s unclear if he’s commenting on it or just presenting it as is. The fragmented timeline with competing povs was also distracting. Not my favorite read. 3 stars

Just cleared another ebook - The Wrong End of the Table: A Mostly Comic Memoir of a Muslim Arab American Woman Just Trying to Fit in by Ayser Salman. I really enjoyed this funny, relevant memoir! The author’s voice and experiences are very clear. There are a lot of mostly funny footnotes, so I recommend reading a physical print version of the book (I hate kindle footnotes). Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars
