Congrats on everyone's fast progress! Yes, there are sheep: 🐑🐏🐑
The only sequel I've finished lately was
🕵️♀️
Congrats! I think you can get the dancer and the unicorn emoticon on the book too. Or should we get one emoticon per book?Another question, can we consider a series read if we read the Hero of Ages because we finished the first trilogy or is Mistborn considered a longer series because it has a second trilogy?
The trilogies can be counted separately, e.g. you could also read the Night Watch series without having to read every single book in the Discworld universe. Yes, one book can only earn one emoticon, so one needs to decide which one to count it for.
I've read the next book in the Penric and Desdemona series:
Masquerade in LodiAs I cannot fit this in any of the remaining challenges, I'd like a lady bug please :)
Finished Seed to Harvest: The Complete Patternist Series to complete this row:Fantasy = Feist's Riftwar Saga
Science Fiction = Patternist
Genre Bender = Lynn Hightower's Elaki series
so I've completed a row and a column and am now working on
Favorite Author = Adrian Tchaikovsky's Echoes of the Fall 3 book series
Thank you, Eva.In the meantime I've read the next book in the Penric & Desdemona series:
Penric’s MissionUnfortunately it doesn't fit into any of the remaining challenges, so that's another lady bug.
Eva wrote: "Congrats! I'm curious about Echoes of the Fall, let me know if it's as good as Cage of Souls. :-)"it's not at all similar to Cage of Souls. It's more of a set in primitive/barbarian times book with shapeshifters rather than in a dystopian future like Cage of Souls.
A couple of other lady bugs for the remaining Penric & Desdemona novellas (The Prisoner of Limnos, The Orphans of Raspay and The Physicians of Vilnoc) and finally I can cross the square for my favorite author.
Finally able to make another update:9. Longer series, Calculated Risks, Incryptid #10, (series catch up)
and I earned a diagonal hipster cat: 🐱👓
Other series progress:
8) features a murder investigation: you collect the detective 🕵️♂️ Moonflower Murders
11) features space travel: you collect the UFO 🛸 This Virtual Night
Calculated Risks gets a ladybug 🐞
Emojis earned so far: 🌺💃🔪🐞🛸🕵️♂️
Taking a break from the world this weekend, I've read the two novellas from Emily Tesh's Greenhollow Duology:
Silver in the Wood
Drowned CountryAnd whilst the sequel only qualifies for another lady bug, I can claim the series for the "Debut Author" bingo square and thus completing my first bingo column 🥳
I made my way through the first four (reread) and the most recent novella of the Murderbot diaries, which concludes my "longer series" square and I would like to claim the following Emojis:
Artificial Condition => features space travel: UFO
Rogue Protocol => person on the cover: dancer
Exit Strategy => stars on the cover: star
Fugitive Telemetry => murder investigation: detective

I'm reading the Murderbot series too. I'm currently reading "Exit Strategy". This series is the replacement for "The Expanse" series in the Sci-Fi box. I've stuck rereading the first book "Leviathan Wakes" and I have much more fun reading Mudrerbot Diaries.
So I've gathered 🛸 & 💃for books I've read ("Artificial Condition" and "Rogue Protocol").
The only box I've crossed so far is the Trilogy. I finished "The Broken Earth" by N. K. Jemisin. Can't find any bonus for "The Obelisk Gate" or "The Stone Sky".
Oh ... I've read the Murderbot series as well, but it didn't occur to me to count it here, cause I planned other series for my Bingo card ^^'. I have to take some time to re-arrange my stuff.
Gabi wrote: "Oh ... I've read the Murderbot series as well, but it didn't occur to me to count it here, cause I planned other series for my Bingo card ^^'. I have to take some time to re-arrange my stuff."I've re-arranged several of my boxes, so don't feel guilty.
Gabi wrote: "Oh ... I've read the Murderbot series as well, but it didn't occur to me to count it here, cause I planned other series for my Bingo card ^^'. Aga wrote: "I usually make plans what to read for various challenges at the begining of the year and then end up reading something completly different :)":D - yes it looks like this for me as well.
I'm easily distracted by Buddy Reads :D If someone is looking for buddys to read something from my TBR I'm always tempted to join. That's why I committed to read the whole Malazan series. I'll propably put it in Fantasy or Longer Series box. Not sure yet.
Aga wrote: "...and I have much more fun reading Murderbot Diaries."Oh yes - Murderbot is just so much fun!
And at the moment I also gravitate to the shorter books - although I really need to tackle some of my tomes at some point...
Finished two more squares: Debut Author: The Inheritance Trilogy is N.K. Jemisin first series and was awesome, really loved the last two books
1. The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms
2. The Broken Kingdoms
3. The Kingdom of Gods
4. The Awakened Kingdom
Trilogy: The Folk of the Air by Holly Black; no one writes Faerie like Black!
1. The Queen of Nothing
2. How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories
And I think I didn't update another square I finished:
Fantasy: Hound Saga by Mette Ivie Harrison
1. The Princess and the Wolf
I read The Well of Ascension and The Hero of Ages and I finished the first Mistborn trilogy, yay!As bingo squares go I finished the Fantasy series and the Trilogy.
And I claim the 🕵️♂️ for Fugitive Telemetry.
Time to catch this challenge up... Since the start of 2021, I read: 1 Witcher book, the last 4 Vorkosigan Saga books (finished series), 2 Expanse books, and Ready Player Two (finished series).
RP2 finishes Debut Author (or SF, if a later change is necessary)
Vorkosigan Saga finishes Longer (or SF, if a later change is necessary).
Sword of Destiny: 🔪
CryoBurn: 💃
Captain Vorpatril's Alliance: 💕
The Flowers of Vashnoi (#7 animal, unlisted bug 🐛)
Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen (nothing new)
Abaddon's Gate:🛸
Gods of Risk ✨
Ready Player Two 🐞
So, summary: through 12 May*
Debut Author
Longer Series
and 6+1 bonus stamps: 🔪💃💕 🐛🛸✨ ,,, 🐞
I've finished "Murderbot Diaries" by Martha Wells as SciFi series and that's my second box crossed after Trilogy.I've gathered:
✨ for "Exit Strategy",
🔪 for "Network Effect"(view spoiler)
🕵🏻♂️ for "Fugitive Telemetry".
After reading a couple of standalones or first books in series, I've finally read and completed another series for this challenge: C.L. Polk - The Kingston Cycle
Witchmark
Stormsong--> I claim 2 horses for my little animal farm 🐴 🐴
Soulstar--> I claim the star
And the whole series fills the bingo field for the new-to-me author thus completing the first bingo row.
Welcome my little ninja cat 🐱👤 😺
Thanks Eva.And shouldn't wait too long with the Kingston Cycle. Each book is stronger than the prior one and the last one covers so many important topics, that it wasn't an easy or enjoyable read for me, but more important than ever.
@Myriel: I quite like your way of collecting animals for your farm. There are a few series that could help me with that...I finished the Daevabad series by S.A. Chakraborty and would like to claim fire for hot climate in The Kingdom of Copper and the lover's hearts for The Empire of Gold. For those, it's sufficient if there are some romantic elements, correct? There is no actual love story in it but we have some couples and people whose relationship plays a role.
@AMG: it makes perfect sense for the hipster cat to be there first (or last, if it's retro)! @Llyren: correct, those elements are enough. :-)
end of May updateI haven't made any more progress on the bingo board, though I've switched my choices for some of the categories. (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...)
I've recently read:
10) features a love story/couple/some romantic elements: you collect the hearts 💕 A Hope Divided
and:
Fugitive Telemetry 🐞
The Outskirter's Secret 🐞
emojis earned so far: 🌺💃🔪🐞🛸🕵️♂️🐞🐞💕
(I am mostly farming 🐞 it seems)
I've finished my first series of the year! Go, me.Court of Fives Sept 2015
(how do five years go by so quickly??)
Poisoned Blade Sept 2020
Buried Heart Jun 2021
Buried Heart's cover has the stylized image of a spider, so I'll claim 🕷 and the "trilogy" space on the board. (the left column is what I'm aiming for in general)
I'm coming close to my personal goal of completing seven manga series. I've completed six series, and the last three volumes of the seventh are up next. I know that graphic novels count, but I've never counted GNs or manga toward my reading goals. They're just fluff to kill time in between heftier reads.
I will be finishing the Favorite Author
Fantasy - Raymond Feist's Riftwar Saga
Trilogy - The Chronicles of Tornor Trilogy: Watchtower, The Dancers of Arun, and The Northern Girl
Column with The Hyena and the Hawk which will complete Adrian Tchaikovsky's Echo of the Fall series.
I'm lacking two squares to complete the board: New to You and Quartet. Then I'll go through the Bonuses and see how many I've completed.
Well done, guys!My sequels so far:
💃
🦄
💕
✨
🛸
🔪
🌺
🐉Of the above, Wild Sign and The Hero of Ages qualify for Bingo Squares, but I'm not sure which ones I want to use them for, it depends on which other series I can finish this year.
Bonus categories: 8 out of 12
I've now met my personal goal of finishing 7 manga series.A new goal is to finish--or complete to date--two series before starting a new one. Looking over my reading this year, everything I've read, except for one book*, has been either a standalone or the continuation of a series I've already started, so that's a good record.
*and reading that series to date won't be hard at all because they're YA and rather short.
Since my 12 May entry, I read:The Scarecrow of Oz (Oz #9), for a 🦄 (with a possible crow/generic bird -- 🐦 -- for bonus 7 if I get a different creature later);
Starborn and Godsons (Heorot #3), for completion of Favorite Author (A1) and an 👽 (and a monkey butt-ton of alternates: 🕵️ which I still need, and 🔪💃✨🦄💕🛸; holy moley!)
Too bad there isn't a cat-battling token for four-corners, I'm almost there!
Eva wrote: "Haha, only one bonus per book, though! Otherwise it's too easy. :-)"That's the plan -- only one bonus per book!
But I'm also documenting the "back-ups", in case in November or December I start shuffling books around to get a bigger crop of bonuses (bonusii? bonzai?) I was sloppy, though, and named them "possible" or "alternate", in that last post.
I was just amazed at how many things this book could do!
I've spent the last days with Murderbot and it was delightful as ever 🥰For the second novella I claim the UFO and having read the whole series up-to-date I claim the Science Fiction square in the bingo. This completes my first diagonal and my second column.
Hello there, little 🐱🚀 and little 🐱👓
Finished: Favorite Author = Adrian Tchaikovsky's Echoes of the Fall I this makes this first column complete along with
Fantasy - Raymond Feist's Riftwar Saga
Trilogy - The Chronicles of Tornor Trilogy: Watchtower, The Dancers of Arun, and The Northern Girl
I'm now lacking New to You Author and Quartet. I did have Terry Goodkind's Nicci Chronicles for my Quartet, but I'm going to switch to Barbara Hambly's Winterland's series (shorter and less speechifying.
OK, the switch to the Hambly quartet is working quite well. The 1st book, Dragonsbane is entertaining plus it's on my TBR Challenge for this one:16. Queen of hearts = Dragonsbane by Barbara Hambly
Love story of a late 30s couple with several children and she's queen of his heart
win, win and I'm happy.
Sounds wonderful! I remember Brandon Sanderson saying that Dragonsbane was one of his all-time favorites, so I put it on my TBR, as well. Hearing that you like it as well moves it up a bit!
Eva wrote: "Sounds wonderful! I remember Brandon Sanderson saying that Dragonsbane was one of his all-time favorites, so I put it on my TBR, as well. Hearing that you like it as well moves it up a bit!"well it definitely doesn't have the expected type of characters in it (not even grey types of anti-heroes).
For anyone still searching for a quartet they might like: Brandon Sanderson has announced that Skyward will be a quartet, and the third book comes out this year, so you could fulfill that prompt by by being caught up with that third book. :-)
