Lilith (lilithp) | 1073 comments The Housekeeper and the Professor If you need a feelgood book, and you lovedThe Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society , this could be for you. It doesn’t share much in common with Guernsey: It takes place in Japan, there are really 3 major characters, all unnamed, except for the housekeeper’s son, Root. But it has that wonderful thread of people doing as much good for one another as they possibly can, and building a small family/ community based on love. Highly recommend! I needed tissues at the end. Good tears.

Dubhease | 644 comments I went with Final Girls

message 103: by Jacqie (new)

Jacqie Just finished The Face of a Stranger by Anne Perry. While it's a well-written book, I didn't personally enjoy it and wouldn't recommend it-it's dark and depressing.

Suni (sunibu) How about Agatha Christie's The A.B.C. Murders?
I can't say more becuse it would be spoiler, but forgetting has something to do with the plot.

Great idea.

message 106: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh Motbey (ashybear02) | 144 comments I'll be reading Trust for this one. It's the third in a series and each book so far contains the main character or someone close trying to bury their past.

message 107: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebecca_splain) | 27 comments I used The Flight Attendant because the main character doesn't quite remember at first what happened the night before she wakes up next to a dead man. Her forgetting is alcohol-fueled, but I figure that would work regardless, right?

Katy M | 960 comments Rebecca wrote: "I used The Flight Attendant because the main character doesn't quite remember at first what happened the night before she wakes up next to a dead man. Her forgetting is alcohol-fuel..."

Forgetting's forgetting.

message 109: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalyn) | 464 comments I went with The Face of a Stranger, in which the detective has amnesia and has to completely re-investigate the case he was working on. (And first he has to figure out what case he was working on.)

Mel (Epic Reading) (mel-epicreading) If anyone needs/wants a YA fantasy The Memory Thief by Lauren Mansy would meet this criteria.

message 111: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth1234561) | 31 comments Stretching this a little, but going with Killer by Sara Shepherd since Spencer spends a lot of time miss-remembering or forgetting what happened the night Ali disappeared.

message 112: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 263 comments I'm thinking about using Who Is Maud Dixon? for this prompt but I'm not sure it counts? Is having no memory of something the same as forgetting... lol?

message 113: by Ketutar (new)

Ketutar Jensen | 98 comments The Raw Shark Texts
This.
Amazing. I loved it.

But I love Fantasy, and there were surprisingly many who don't, so I don't know if you'd like this one.

Let's say if you liked the Alchemist, Starless Sea, Neil Gaiman's books, The Thirteenth Tale, The Shadow of the Wind, you'll probably love this one, too :-D

I am reading We Could Be Heroes right now, it is very good, it feels like a fresh and new take on the superhero subgenre, AND it's about forgetting!! The two protagonists both wake up and can't remember who they are, and they start looking for clues and struggling to regain their memories. AND one of the protagonists has the power to read other people's memories, and erase them if he chooses to.

message 117: by Aimee (new)

Aimee Wheeler | 3 comments I think this may be a stretch but what does everyone think about using the book

message 118: by Aimee (new)

Aimee Wheeler | 3 comments what about Paranoid by Lisa Jackson

message 119: by Diana (new)

Diana (candystripelegs) | 246 comments I wound up reading Forget This Ever Happened. It was a very interesting premise, but I found the plot to be a little lacking and the ending was a bit rushed.

message 120: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 502 comments I was going to read Addie LaRue, but then I ended up reading The Memory Thief : And the Secrets Behind How We Remember: A Medical Mystery. It was interesting, although it's highly technical. It also works for a book published in 2021 and one with less than 1000 reviews on Goodreads (There are currently only 9)

message 121: by LeahS (new)

LeahS | 491 comments I read Stammered Songbook: A Mother's Book of Hours by Erwin Mortier. It's a memoir of the decline of the author's mother through dementia. Beautifully written - not a happy book, but not as grim as it sounds.

message 122: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 780 comments Read: The Lost Girls of Johnson's Bayou by Jana Deleon. Good rom-suspense.

I also recently read Affaire Royale by Nora Roberts. I used it for the “family tree” prompt, but it also works for this one.

message 124: by Arunimaa (new)

Arunimaa | 46 comments I think I will go with the first book in The Cemetry of Forgotten Books The Shadow of the Wind
The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #1) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

message 125: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) | 56 comments Just finished Repeat by Kylie Scott The main character has amnesia

message 126: by Sofia (new)

Sofia Samu | 82 comments I'm currently reading Flyaway and the main character seems to not remember or has repressed her life before her brothers and father had disappeared.

Ron (ronstjohn) | 27 comments Sarah wrote: "Lauren wrote: "I'm thinking to go with The Memory Police."

I was coming here to recommend this exact book :). It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea but I loved it."

I used The Memory Police, too. I did not really care for the book, but it is certainly a perfect fit for this category.

message 128: by Anshita (new)

Anshita (_book_freak) | 268 comments I'm reading Essex County, Vol. 2: Ghost Stories for this prompt. Earlier, I thought to read Still Alice as it was a popular choice, but I recently read Essex County, Vol. 1: Tales from the Farm, the preceding book of the one I'm reading. I loved that and the second one deals with the protagonist with a memory problem.

message 129: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) If I'll have the time, I'll read In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware.

I'm currently reading this book. I have only started it but it has already gripped my imagination.

I read this one for my “black and white” cover and really liked it. It was a fast read.

This one awaits for me in my library for so many years :D. I think it's time!

message 133: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 41 comments I read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. The main character is forgotten by everyone she meets. Enjoyable read - 5 stars

message 134: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Evans (bamalibrarylady) I read "Still Alice" by Lisa Genova.

Still Alice by Lisa Genova

Eventually I read Animal Farm by George Orwell.
The animals start forgetting about the promise of Old Major and are fooled by the pigs.

message 137: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherbowman) | 903 comments The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Scwab was incredible! I adored every word of this book. I haven't read anything else by this author, but I'll have to now.
