I read this one.

Natasha | 67 comments Mornings in Jenin had one. It's about a Palestinian Family in the aftermath of the creation of the state of Israel. Mornings in Jenin

Duygu | 22 comments I just read NOS4A2 by Joe Hill for this prompt. Nevermind that I thought it was going to be about biochemistry or chemical warfare and it turned out something completely different :D

Tara (the.readingredhead) | 2 comments I’m reading The Royal We for this!

message 105: by Heather (new)

Heather Addai (heatheraddai) | 11 comments I read Home Going by Yaa Gyasi for this prompt

message 106: by Pie (new)

Pie (pixelpie) | 49 comments I was planning on using The Overstory for a book I meant to read last year but I might stretch it to fit this prompt. The tree is significant to the family and the different generations. So far anyway, I've only read a little bit of it.

message 107: by Jane (new)

Jane (juniperlake) | 54 comments An amazing book called If Sons, Then Heirs by Lorene Carey. The family tree in the beginning was crucial for me as I tried to keep track of the complex relationships in the story. I can't imagine a better use of a family tree in a novel. It's an emotionally engaging story. I loved it.

message 108: by Jacqie (new)

Jacqie The Deep and Dark Blue is a middle-grade graphic novel that features a family tree as part of its story. It's a quick read if you're looking for something that's easily finished and it also deals sensitively with trans issues.

Lilith (lilithp) | 1082 comments I read The Cousins. I really enjoyed this YA mystery, family drama combination. YA is hit or miss for me, so this was a fun read. I loved the characters, especially the eponymous cousins. And one of the uncles. Have to say that I didn't like the ending; One feature was a little too deus ex machina for me. YMMV. But I did like the way the personality growth and values came forth.
The book has the diagram of a family tree. Helpful in keeping track of the families.

message 110: by Liz (new)

Liz Fothergill | 48 comments I’m using Bittersweet by Miranda Beverly Whittemore for this. It doesn’t have a family tree per se, but one of the characters finds and uses a family tree in some research, and thus it is essential to the book.

message 111: by LeahS (new)

LeahS | 491 comments I read When Time Stopped: A Memoir of My Father's War and What Remains by Ariana Neumann.

The author uncovers the recent history of her family and what happened to them during the Holocaust. The family tree at the front really helps in keeping track of the characters and actually helps to bring them to life. There are some amazing stories in this book.

I own a copy of The Last Report... but I didn't know it had a family tree in it! I'm gonna double check that my copy does, and if it does, I'm 100% reading this. It was a gift from a friend, and I've wanted to read it for a long time, but I haven't gotten to it.

message 113: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (Warped Shelves) (warpedshelves) | 12 comments I've been struggling to find something that I want to read that fits this prompt. As my smart-assery seems to have no end, I think I might use First Frost (sequel to Garden Spells, which would also work). There is a literal magical tree that has been part of this family for generations. I think that should count as a "family tree" lol

message 114: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (audjvoss12) | 7 comments We Were Liars

message 116: by Anna (new)

Anna | 2 comments For something a little lighter, I can recommend The Bookish Life of Nina Hill. There is a whole chapter discussing and drawing out the family tree.

message 117: by Pie (new)

Pie (pixelpie) | 49 comments I think Home: A Memoir of My Early Years could fit. The first chapter is about her family and she talks about their lives through 3 generations.

message 118: by Leona (new)

Leona (_aprilleona) | 9 comments We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
wherein the Sinclairs are great and beautiful

It's In His Kiss (Bridgertons, #7) by Julia Quinn
while it's in his kiss has the enormous Bridgerton family

message 119: by Melanie (new)

Melanie March (melaniemarch) | 1 comments The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman has a family tree within the chapters!

message 120: by Izzy (new)

Izzy (izzy_frances) | 4 comments A fairly new book, Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean has a family tree in the front!

Sounds like a better fit for “a book with three generations” than “a book with a family tree.” I get the feeling that people don’t know what a family tree is. A family tree is a chart showing familial relationships. See the following link for examples.

message 122: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) | 56 comments The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien has family trees at the back

message 123: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Neely (jennersmecom) | 50 comments The new YA book Tokyo Ever After by Emiko Jean had a family tree at the beginning. If you enjoy reading YA books this is a must-read. It had humor, romance, family, friendship, royalty, travel, and a couple of villains. It was a very enjoyable read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

message 124: by Kerris (new)

Kerris Crook I'm really disappointed to have opened up a kindle version of The Commonwealth and not be able to see a family tree in it, especially as Popsugar have recommended it

message 125: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 780 comments Finished Affaire Royale by Nora Roberts for this one. It’s one of her earliest romances, and I don’t know if the original book had a family tree, but the 3-in-1 collection I have does. This book also fits “a book about forgetting,” as the heroine experiences amnesia following a traumatic event.

Just in case anyone is currently reading or planning to read Orson Scott Card's Ender's Saga, the second book in the series, Speaker for the Dead has a family tree!

message 127: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 41 comments I read The Duke and I, but my favorite book for this prompt is Homegoing.

message 128: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherbowman) | 908 comments I read After the Funeral by Agatha Christie. It was a good Poirot mystery. I couldn't figure out why it had a family tree for awhile because the relationships aren't that difficult to keep straight. Just another part of Dame Agatha's brilliance.

message 129: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (jwieseman) | 4 comments Does The Dutch House have a family tree? I see someone listed it but don’t believe it does so wanted to double check.

message 130: by Anshita (new)

Anshita (_book_freak) | 273 comments I'm reading the The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan for this prompt. I'm buddy reading with a pal so it will be a quick and interesting read.

message 131: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) I will be reading The Queen's Rising by Rebecca Ross, if I'll have the time.

message 132: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Evans (bamalibrarylady) I read "The House of Broken Angels" by Luis Alberto Urrea.

Sofia Samu | 82 comments I read The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton

Oh and I recommend A Million Junes by Emily Henry. It has TWO family trees.

message 134: by Britany (new)

Britany | 1714 comments oh DARN it! I finally picked up Far from the Tree for this prompt, but my copy definitely does NOT have a family tree in it. Anyone have any great (shorter) suggestions?

message 135: by Tania (new)

Tania | 678 comments I am about to start The Surgeon's Family by David Hernandez, which has a simple family tree at the beginning.

The other book I thought about reading, which had a more involved family tree, is Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. by Ron Chernow, but I've put that one off a bit for now.

message 136: by Paula (new)

Paula | 34 comments I read “Family Tree “ by Susan Wigg and really enjoyed it

message 137: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Mae (patriciaflair) | 126 comments I already read Far from the Tree by Robin Benway. I think I'm going with The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman and We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. It was on my TBR list:D

message 139: by Cassie (new)

Cassie (cwalters-shantal) | 59 comments The Cousins by Karen M. McManus

The Cousins by Karen McManus
Completed: February 10, 2021
