From a pet squirrel. He or she delivers one fresh nut each Sunday.

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments We've been pushing encouraging the mods to do more promos to attract more participants to the NRPG. Not much has been done. We talk it up during the special events.

I'm not sure what has been done across other groups

If goodreads hasn't sold advertising space, I wonder if the groups could advertise RPG's like this game.

message 6470: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 522 comments I think she means more telling people about it in person, off goodreads. Although I'm guessing, because that's definitely a look I have gotten too. lol.

I do have one co-worker who doesn't understand it at all, but will ask me how my adventure is going now. haha. I get the same look when I would talk about playing the game "mafia/werewolf" (not goodreads related) but playing it online instead of in person.

This game is for READERS so the various groups here would be the most likely source of future participants.

message 6472: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 522 comments Obviously, I think she was just meaning talking about the game in general like "oh I do this fun thing with the books I read".

I wasn't meaning it was a great place for/way to do recruiting. Just that it's also come up in conversation for me with friends/coworkers and some have given the blank look not understanding and some have been curious at least enough to inquire about it at later times.

lol. Trust me, I understand the game is for readers. ;) Took a lot of reading for us to get where we are.

And we've seen a good deal of newcomers since the LRPG, I think, so I think the mods have done a good job of keeping new people coming in on top of all they do to keep us entertained/pushing to achieve more. Especially with the welcome basket and things.

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 522 comments I know in the past they've had things mentioning whatever new thing has happened or been added in a shorter format with a link -- I know that gets me to read it more than something more splashy, but that's a personal thing. (If I want to read, I go with books and look for brevity with advertisements and things. If they're wordy/flashy I feel like they are trying too hard, if that makes sense? But that's, again, a personal preference thing and not applicable to everyone. haha.)

I say whatever Kelly and Tea have been doing seems to be going really well (and for this long), so basically just keep on keeping on and do what you feel like for promotions. *shrug* But I've been awake since 1am and it's almost bedtime so... haha. Make of it what you will. ;) I'm loopy.

With any game, there is attrition, so the need to promote is ongoing. Subtle is fine by me too, but sometimes splashy -- if done once in a while, catches people's attention.

My housemate understands too, but she's had some D&D info trickle down to her. Might be harder to explain to people with no RPG experience..?

message 6477: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Well with Wobble, I'm sure it'll bring in some new players, so that'll be good. It's advertised monthly in the newsletter with the Notice Board when things are happening so I think a lot of people know about it and have joined if it's something they'd like. Hopefully Wobble will give those not in it a chance to experience it and join in once they see the fun in it.

message 6478: by Ray (user2637) (new)

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Looking toward the furture for the NRPG, how about some quests that use HP? After we have a pet rock, a house, a bed, upgraded weapons, etc., hp becomes an underused resource (unless going against a big monster), so maybe there's a way to incorporate that into new quests.

In D&D, if you go too long without sleep, you can lose hp (I think) until you sleep again -- that could be part of the story to it. "Stay up all night to guard the village, lose 5 hp" and then more things for the quest....

Why not Alyssa?

Any books you use for Wobble can be used here and vice versa. I'd bet 80% of the RPG players will be doing Wobble. The team challenges are what NBRC is known for.

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments Delitealex wrote: "What can you do with the potion tokens from the welcome package?"

SAVE THEM FOR THE BIG BATTLES. These are the ones requiring many rounds and large monster attack strengths.

The potion tokens can be used to buy ANY potion from Jack and Jill's Caravan Hill Store. The most expensive are:

The Pet plus (12gold)
The Shield (15 gold))
And
The Growing Strength Potions (15 gold)

You cannot build The Shield and The Growing Strength Potions with the scrounger list You must use gold or a Potion token.

Use your scrounger list to create ALL the other potions. I know it's tempting to use them earlier but you'll get the most out of saving them for the future.

I use my full HP every week to battle monsters... I would not like things that take it away!!! :)

message 6489: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3799 comments I really wish I could participate in Wobble. It would take more organization of my books, but since we can use the same books for both I'm sure it would work out.

Unfortunately I'm in a transition period right now haha. My husband and I are moving to another state at the end of the month and I am doing the new job hunt. I could have months and months with no job and plenty of time to read....or I could have a new one soon and be spending all my time exploring my new city and working! Bad timing for me :'(

(Also right now I do a lot of audiobook listening at my job and a new job would mean I couldn't do that anymore)

message 6490: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Lane The main reason I like this Rpg and can play it is because I don't have a team depending on me to keep commitments and deadlines so if my real life gets busy, it's okay and I don't have to explain to anyone why I haven't read at least one book per week.
I mean I guess I'm not saying a person couldn't do this and wobble at once I'm sure it can be done but it doesn't sound easy, because if you already have a reading list/plan for what you want to accomplish in this game, wobble MIGHT happen to need the same books, but there's also a pretty high chance it will need different ones, and if you have to support a team there, your game here will end up taking the backseat.
Idk it just wouldn't be a good fit for me I guess.

Ya I think it completely depends on the person. The team competitions definitely aren't for everyone (and I won't lie they do add a lot of extra pressure on their reading). I enjoy it because I like working in a team (like the dragon event here), but only if I know I can commit to at least 1 book a week for the team. If the dragon event wasn't going on at the same time it might be easier to do the Wobble. In that case I would just stick books into my RPG wherever they fit (kind of what I do now anyway). But now I'm so concentrated on doing only certain things to help with the dragon battle.

I have done the team events AND RPG in the past, but it required more searching for the PERFECT books to fit both, which takes a good amount of time.

Well, like all quests, it would be optional.... I think I explained my reasoning pretty clearly in the last post so I won't repeat here.

message 6494: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I think Wobble's grown into something that's scaring people. It's really not going to be as hard as it seems. Everyone loves Tower Teams and it's really not that much more effort other than you will have to work together more, rather than just reading what you want. But still, it's fairly simple.

You read a "R" book for reinforcements for Dragon event, and there's an R for Wheel. It's covered.

Sure if someone plans out every single book they read then the challenges might not be for you. I just can't understand that mindset, so sorry. I can't plan, ever. I read what I want when I want, so team challenges aren't a challenge for me. They are about the fun, the meeting people, the chatting.

I'm sorry if it's put more pressure on you Rebecca, the challenges aren't meant to do that. You give us what you read, we really don't ask that you read more than what you normally read. People get competitive and they do do that, but it's not asked for. Anyone could join Wobble and read just 1 book a week. It helps your team and has you involved.

It's really simple, it just LOOKS like a lot because instead of one long Tower or Wheels, we're doing 6 different things. You just gotta think of it as one, with different components.

I hope many of you will consider joining in. I know many of you, who haven't posted here, plan on it. It's gonna be a ton of fun and not as hard as it may seem.

I just figured most of you would jump onto the Multi-Player RPG since a lot of you have asked for it before. Here it is, so hopefully those of you who wanted it will jump in and it'll expose new people to RPG as well.

message 6495: by Greta (new)

Greta | 1459 comments I'm totally in for both even though I'm just starting with this! I think people are nervous because you are stressing that it's a big challenge but hopefully that will just scare away the people who sign up but don't participate. I would think if you've been participating in this NRPG then you're perfect for Wobble. And as someone who does multiple team challenges at once, I think you will see it's not that hard to find a book that lines up for both challenges.

My two cents, even though I'm a newbie here but pretty experienced with team challenges.

I'm loving this challenge by the way!!

The multi-player RPG is what I'm looking forward to the most! It's always overwhelming being bombarded with a lot of info up front. But like in most challenges/games, once you start playing, it becomes easy and you get the hang of it in no time. I have no doubt it will be fun :D

message 6498: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 3990 comments I'm just starting with this too. I'm also looking forward to WOBBLE. I've missed out on some of the team challenges so this is great. I figured the would be a lot of overlap and being able to use books for both.

The multi player RPG definitely sounds interesting I can't wait to see how that goes.

Oh don't get my wrong Karsyn. The added pressure of working for the team is totally why I join the team challenges. That pressure pushes me to read more which is the reason I'm in this group after all.

I do try plan out all my books to fit the challenge, but I plan only using books on my TBR so it's always something I actually want to read. Again, the whole point of the challenge is to get us to read, so the different tasks force me to look through my whole list and read books I totally forgot I wanted to,

I have done most of the group challenges here (I missed a couple signs up in the past) and really enjoy them. Like I said, it's just bad timing for me right now. I wouldn't want to join a team and then to have to either pull them down because my schedule gets crazy or have to drop out.
