From Friday 23rd October 2020 at 12.01 am (in your local time zone) you start keeping track of how many pages you read until Saturday 31st October 2020 at 11.59 pm. In the October (Hallowe'en) 2020 Read-a-thon thread you will post your progress, telling everyone what you're reading and how many pages. Then all readers' totals will be tallied throughout the week to reach the goal of 10,000 pages. This is a relaxed read-a-thon; it doesn't matter if you read 20 pages or 100, it also doesn't matter if we reach our goal, it's just having fun doing what you would normally be doing anyway:) Once the Read-a-thon thread is posted, make sure to put your name on the thread if you would like to be included. If you simply stumble onto the thread, then please, join in!

*An easy way to keep track is using the Currently Reading feature on Goodreads, entering your page number at the end of each day. **For those who read by eReader, take the page number which shows for paperback/hardcover here on Goodreads for your total. Calculate by percentage to work out your page number read.

***For audio listeners, check out how many pages the book has on Goodreads, then divide that number by how many CDs or hours it is to give you an idea of pages per time. Don't forget to post your totals of daily or full weekend tally on the thread

I don't have a list of participants post anymore, so consider yourself signed up as soon as you comment in this thread.

I apologise for the lateness of setting this up, it's been a hectic week with work and I had to self isolate in my bedroom as I had to wait for a COVID-19 test.

I just want to remind that you are not obligated to take part for the entire week, you're more than welcome to take part when it suits you.

Thank you for your comments, I have seemed to come down with a nasty chest infection, it feels like I have had a while but it got worse this past week. I was sent for a COVID test but that was negative. Other than the cough, chest tightness and wheeziness, I am still well enough.

Rift Vegan (riftvegan) | 52 comments Week-long Readathon!

So sorry you're not well, Alannah. Blankets and Hot Toddies!

Fri 23rd == 18pgs
A Fire Upon the Deep
a re-read. I enjoyed this book the first time 'round, despite the violence, and despite the fact that he kills off all my favorite characters. I do love the aliens and the world building. The violence still makes me sick.

Sat 24th == 40pgs
Wai! I love Greenstalk so much. She's not dead, but severely injured and has inadvertently betrayed "the good guys". I despise Pham (one of the "good guys").
Yes, I knew it was coming. But it's still heart rending to me.

Sun 25th == 40pgs
Johanna has decided to be nice, and there's a sweet scene of her and Scrupilo.

Mon 26th == 54pgs
Some of Greenstalk's injuries are basically like a stroke, but she confronted her betrayal, along with her species betrayal, head on. Oh she made me cry for all of her people. And I will never get over my hatred of Pham.

Tues 27th == 55 pages
Space war for the good guys, but it's just disguised violence. why am I reading this??

Wed 28th == 110 pages
Finished. Blueshell's sacrifice to prove to everyone that his species betrayal didn't have a hold on him... made me cry a lot. I didn't remember that Pham died at the end... good riddance!

Now, what to read tomorrow? (I will not continue the series!)

Thurs 29th == 44pages
Planetfall
I just paged thru my samples until I hit one that sounded science fictiony! laughs. Main character has anxiety, so that's a bit disconcerting because she sounds a lot like my brain. :| And the god thing sounds misplaced in a scifi book, we'll have to see how that plays out!

Fri 30th == 120pages
Yep, I'm engaged! ha. And oh lordy! It's a cult that has travelled to this other planet... and it's just as awful as it sounds, with the non-believing leaders manipulating the people with superstitious lies. And apparently we don't have mental health services in the future, either. gah.

Sat 31st == 55 pages
The mental health problems are taking a center stand, and they are interesting... and have me questioning some stuff in my own day to day life. But I'm so curious about this god thing. Will those questions be answered??

TOTAL == 536 pages

A Fire Upon the Deep (Zones of Thought, #1) by Vernor Vinge Planetfall (Planetfall, #1) by Emma Newman
