A couple of things to keep in mind:
✸ Communication is key. Please make sure to check in regularly with your team.
✸ Let your team know if it looks like you won't get your review posted by Thursday, 11:59pm. You do have all of Friday to submit your review, but it can be intensely frustrating for your captain if they don't know when or if they can expect your review before the deadline.
✸ If you know beforehand that you won't be able to read and review a book during a certain week, you can request a pre-arranged absence from me, either by posting the request in the discussion thread or by sending me a pm. The request has to be submitted before the team rolls for the week in question, can only be approved by me as the mod in charge of running the game, and has to state a reason for the absence. (Reasons for pre-arranged absences can include e.g. going on vacation or work trips, planned hospital stays, exam period, etc.)
✸ If you do not have a pre-arranged absence and won't be able to finish your book in time for an unforeseen reason, please let your team know as soon as possible. If the team has earned the free pass, it can be used to cover the missing review. Without a free pass, the team has to sit out the next roll.
✸ We all know that real life gets in the way sometimes, be it through family emergencies, work emergencies, natural disasters, technical problems making it impossible to get online, or in other ways. That being said, please do keep in mind that this is a team challenge and your team relies on you to do your part unless an emergency occurs.
✸ If you find that the pressure of keeping up with the pace of the game gets too much for you or you wish to stop playing for any other reason, you can drop out of the challenge at any time. In that case, please let your team captain and/or me know that you wish to drop out rather than just disappearing without a word so your team won't be penalized when you fail to turn in your review. Thank you!
Captain's Handbook
✸ The team's captain is its chief organizer. This includes rolling the dice, posting the team's new spot to the team thread and the Post Your Spot thread, collecting links to team members' review posts in a single post to be linked in the Post Your Spot thread, doublechecking that books and review posts comply with requirements, reminding team members to post their reviews in time if necessary, etc.
✸ The captain may delegate some tasks, such as rolling and posting the new spot to the team thread, to another team member if they so choose. (Either a designated roller who fulfills this role every week, or whichever team member is online first once rolling is possible.) Collecting reviews into a single post and posting to the Post Your Spot thread should always be handled by the captain.
✸ Instead of having everything handled by a single team captain, teams can also choose two co-captains to handle the workload.
✸ Selection posts are not strictly required by the game's rules and I won't be checking for them. It's up to the team captain to decide whether they want them.
✸ If the team captain requests a pre-arranged absence, it's their responsibility to arrange for another team member to step in as temporary captain.
✸ The team captain is my primary point of contact for the team and should allow receiving private messages.

I will be reading Get a Life, Chloe Brown- The Brown Sisters #1

Spot: 10

Book: Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert
Qualification: The Brown Sisters #1
Bonus: ✸ 2 in 1: One point can be earned for reading a book that fits both the series number and the alternate for the spot you are on.

My book for this week is >500 pages so that's one bonus points earned once I finish reading!

I have visited England where the book is set.

If you don't earn it with this roll, you can earn it with the next one. Or the one after that, and so on. You can only earn one for the whole game, but you have plenty of opportunities to try for it.

Week 1 - Spot 10
Book: Steel Crow Saga by Paul Krueger
Date Read: 9/19
Rating: 4 stars
How it fits: standalone
Bonus: greater than 500 pages - 528 pages
Review: This was an Asian inspired fantasy that I picked up because I was intrigued by the back blurb that called it a mix of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Pokemon. And because it was a standalone fantasy and I always need more standalone fantasy in my life. This story follows a main cast of 4 characters whose points of view we rotate between throughout the story. The story takes place in a world that has just seen the end of a war where rebellions have successfully won their respective countries back from oppressive rule, and now the crown prince of the defeated country is being escorted back to his home by one of our characters to be crowned king, while two of our other characters are on a mission to kidnap him for their own political benefit.
Krueger did a wonderful job creating a world that felt fleshed out over the span of one novel, a feat that is hard to do in fantasy and often why fantasy tends to be series heavy. It was a cross between silkpunk on the culture side with more steampunk elements on the tech side. And as for magic there were two different types of magic present in this book. One being bonded spirit animal companions and the other being people with elemental style metal bending powers. While this book had somewhat of a slow start, a product of being more character focused than plot focused, I found myself still enjoying it because I quickly became attached to the characters. This novel also had a delightful mix of queer representation across different main and side charactors

Review snippet: You know that feeling when you wait to read a book for a while and then you finally have it and you actually really want to read it and then you finally get around to it and it's disappointing? Well, this was not that book because it was definitely worth the wait and I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!

Week 1 - Spot 10

Book: The Moonglow Sisters by Lori Wilde
Date Read: 21st Sept
Rating: ****
How it fits: Standalone
Review:
I haven't read anything by Lori Wilde before so I didn't really know what to expect, but I am a sucker for the phrase 'second changes' in a synopsis, and this book did not disappoint. It was a really nice story about the bond between Sisters and the ties that bind even when you think they are broken and can never be mended. The story follows three sisters each uniquely different who have to get over their differences and come home when their beloved Grandmother Helen discovers she has brain cancer. A misunderstanding has meant that the sisters haven't been together in the same place for over five years.
Moonglow Cove sounds an idyllic place beside the ocean, Wilde creates a wonderful vista for the reader. Its a book about love, friendshi, laughter and forgiveness. I think I like it especially as I am the youngest of three sisters and like Gia in the story and the peacemaker and the one who generally brings the other two back together and can get away with murder ;)

Review: I loved this book a lot more than her first novel "The Night Circus." I started listening to it on audio and that was a mistake. This is not a book that you can fly through, you need to read it slowly because there is a lot of details. I ended up having to go back and reread stuff so that I didn't miss anything.

Review:
I really wanted to enjoy this one as I have loved the author's other books but this one just didn't work for me. I loved the world building and the setting but the main character Hollis just didn't do much for me. She was too wish washy and I didn't connect with her on any level. I actually liked her best friend Delia more. I also didn't care for the fly by night all of a sudden the girl and boy fell in love after barely knowing each other. Overall I really tried but I don't think I will continue with the series.
