Keri | 212 comments I forgot to turn on notifications guys sorry! They’re on now and I saved this thread as a bookmark.
I kept looking in our bookin’ it group for updates and didn’t realize that Amazing Race is the old thread 🤦🏼‍♀️

Keri | 212 comments I have a lot of catching up to do reading through all this and seeing how this challenge works :-)

Starting now!

Oh boy this is going to make me slower :/
Sorry in advance team...I normally have many books going and then decide to focus on one more than the others if it fits a task.

I’m excited for this tho, it seems overwhelming so far, but super fun all these task options!!

Same! I love Fredrik Backman! Beartown and Us Against Them we’re both amazing. I’m looking forward to Anxious People and I also have A Man Called Ove to read.

Keri | 212 comments Okay I skipped the longer overall things to get to our current task and I’m sure I can find something Nov. 2019 to read.

I’ll reply to the ones for the whole group too.

Thanks I may use Get a Life, Chloe Brown. That ones been on my radar as one I might like.

I mostly read things that are a different genre but also have romance, and more cutesy romances which this seems like it may lean more towards.

I like Sophie Kinsella and Christina Lauren, along with others not really coming to mind right now.

I like books with romance as a subplot to the main plot too.

Mostly, I’m not a fan of steamy type romances, or romance only type books, if that makes sense at all.

Okay on to the lists now.
I’ll look first at what everyone else said and try to be cohesive with that.

Keri | 212 comments When are these due?

message 61: by Leslie (new)

Leslie There isn't a set date. We can check in for our next task as soon as we've all completed this one and then will be given the next task. We just try to complete as many as we can during the challenge.

Oh! Cool, no worries then, I'll be fine and I am getting quicker at reading these days somehow. I think because I am just so excited about so many books!!! lol

message 63: by Keri (new)

Keri | 212 comments My answers/list is coming. I'm working on it now. I'm going to post it, then go back and look through you guys lists and add in anything to mine that I'm also fine with but didn't think of. I think that will be easiest for me to get it in here at least first lol.

I LOVE LISTS. seriously. :-D

message 64: by Keri (new)

Keri | 212 comments WOW. This will for sure be the longest post I have ever made. I feel like I just took an intense survey lol. But also fun. I still have to read everyone's replies too so I can add to things or cancel what I've said. But here comes my replies. I need a break for my eyes though so I'll be back on later to do more. And to reply to the other list of our info.

Keri | 212 comments Oops...didn't include the list lol

Here are the tasks we need a group consensus on. We can decide now to save time later. :) Get your votes in!

1. Each player reads a book by the same author, teams decide author - no pass for this task.
Most Interested in reading/Have things I want to read already
Brigid Kemmerer
Riley Sager
James Patterson
Taylor Jenkins Reid
Christina Lauren
Sophie Kinsella
Cassandra Clare

More authors I liked and/or have been interested in(I could go on forever but this is already a very long answer…and I have so many more questions to go lol)
Meg Cabot
Harlan Coben
Kerri Maniscalco
Sophie Hannah
Courtney Summers
Fredrik Backman
J.K. Rowling
Sarah J. Maas
Marissa Meyer
V.E. Schwab
Mary E. Pearson
Jay Kristoff
Katharine McGee

9. Each player reads a book in the same series, teams decide. No pass for this task.
This seems hard, because it’s more specific.
Just a few I’m really wanting to start or continue right now are:
Cursebreakers series by Brigid Kemmerer, I have read A Curse So Dark and Lonely but not book 2 yet.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, I’m also on Scarlet book 2 (see a pattern?)

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco, would be new to me and seems good for the fall season
Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson, would be new to me and I have been ‘planning’ to read it FOREVER. And still haven’t

Also, I have some folders too relating to series on my TBR, but don’t feel like you have to check them out for options.

‘new series’: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...#
‘series in progress’: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I will also check into what options you all have suggested.

27. Read a minimum of 750 pages in books published in any one year prior to 2018, team picks the year.
I’m open to whatever here

29. Read over 750 pages in books about the same profession, teams decide which profession.
detective or police officer, are my top choices
baker
princess or ‘chosen one’ (lol I’m sure that doesn’t count but it seems almost all my fantasy books have that)

33. Read 6 books in the same sub-genre, teams decide.
Not sure what a sub-genre is, maybe psychological thriller? Like that’s a more specific type of mystery/thriller?

49. Each teammate reads a book published in the same month and year, teams decide. No pass for this task.
I’m open to whatever here

50. Read 6 books set in the same location, teams decide the location.
How specific? Can it be fantasy world? Or USA? Or are those to broad? And the UK seems to be a place some of my books take place also.

For specific, I feel like I’ve read a lot in New York?

51. Each teammate reads a different book by the same author, no pass for this task.
See #1

52. Read 6 books with the same color cover, teams decide color.
Open to colors, I have a folder for each color already in my GR shelves for other challenges lol

53. Each teammate reads a book set in one of your teammates' home town (born in, raised in, currently live in - all work), teams decide. No pass for this task.
This could be harder, I live in Cincinnati, OH. Not sure if I’ve come across many books taking place here. I have always lived in OH so no other options for mine

54. Read 6 books set on a beach or in the mountains, teams decide which.
I’d probably choose beach, just because I can instantly think of one or two, but I’m also open to mountains, I’m sure I can find some there too

55. Read 6 books set in the same country outside the US, teams decide country.
I’d choose the UK for this, because I feel like it pops up a lot when I’m reading. Again, open to other options too

56. As a team, pick a list with over 100 romance books on it, each member reads a book from that list. No pass for this task.
Here’s one I randomly found so I have one to paste in, it has multiple books already on my TBR.
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

A large number the books on my TBR are tagged romance in some facet, so I hopefully could find a book I’d read on any list you guys want that’s not like ‘steamy romances only’ lol

58. Read 6 books published in the year one of the teammates joined RRRC, teams decide which teammate.
I joined in 2020 (newbie!!) and I’d be fine with that year, but like all the year challenges, I’m fine with whatever year the majority would like to use

70. Read a minimum of 1200 pages in books of the same sub-genre, but by different authors.
I really need to look up what a sub-genre is, so for now, I’ll go again with psychological thriller, since I think that is one…

71. Pick another team and each member reads one book that was read by a member for this challenge. No pass for this task.
I haven’t checked out other teams, but I’d say whichever team we want, I should be able to find a book they’ve read that I’d read.

72. Read 4 books published in the decade of a teammate's birth, team decides which teammate.
80s here.

Side note: here’s a good laugh for you all. I read Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier in school, and I remember liking it but nothing else, so I’ve been wanting to reread it, thought it might fit and laughed at myself because it was published in 1938! Hahaha I’m not good with knowing when things are published…

73. Read a minimum of 1500 pages in books by the same author, teams decide author.
See #1

75. Read over 1000 pages in books that start with the same letter (no articles), teams decide letter.
I’m sure I can work with most letters here.

76. Read 6 books with a specific item on the cover, team selects item.
a crown/tiara pops out to me as often on my books
Also a person, but only if it doesn’t have to be the WHOLE person, like any part of a person…like if just half a face in on there, that would still count?
Open to other options, this one is so open it’s making it hard for me to think of things lol

79. Read 6 books that have the same romance trope, teams decide which trope.
I LOVE fake dating, though I don’t have any right now on my radar I haven’t read. Please let me know if you do, even if we don’t use that one lol.
I don’t know if this is an actual thing but I also love slow burn/slow build up
I also like enemies to lovers.
I dislike love triangles, BUT they do show up in SO MANY of the books I read so it's easy to find.
I DESPISE instalove. Anything but that please.

82. Each teammate reads a different book from the same series.
See #9

84. Pick a category from the current RRRC Monthly Challenge and read 6 books for that category. Reader's Choice is exempt from this task.
Fine with any of these from September Monthly Challenge 2020: Okay I started to paste them all in here, only to realize I could find something for most of them due to the few extra options in addition to the main prompt.
My least favorite options are probably 4 & 9, but still I would be able to find books to fit.

90. Each member reads a book published in sequential months, i.e. June, July, August and September 2019. Teams decide which months. No pass for this task.
Does this mean like one of us reads for each month, like one for each month in a row?
Also, I am fine with any set of months normally I can find something on my TBR, especially in the more recent years like 2017-2020. Again, I’d make any year work though.

92. Read over 1500 pages in books set in the future or the past - teams decide.
I can do either, I like historical fiction, and I also like sci-fi some, so I have books set in both.

93. As a team, pick a Romance List from GR Listopia with less than 100 books on it, each teammate reads a book from that list. No pass for this task.
This one is: Enemies to Lover trope in Fantasy and Paranormal, it has 60 books. That isn’t as close to 100 as maybe we’d like to get to have more options? I’m not sure. There’s things on it that are on my TBR. Again, didn’t search a ton, so you guys may have lists you’re more invested in.
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

94. Read 6 books published in sequential years, teams decide years.
Fine with whatever years we want to go with here.

95. As a team, select an animal. Read 8 books tagged with that animal.
Dragons? Horses? I am struggling to think of books I’ve read tagged anything besides those. I will look more and at what you guys have put

96. Read a minimum of 1200 pages with the sun or the moon on the cover, teams decide which.
I don’t think I read many books with either on the cover…soooo I’m guessing I could just find one with whichever the majority picks here.

Keri | 212 comments Here are the tasks we need to share info to complete

MY INFO

12. Read a book recommended to you by a teammate - no pass for this task.
I want to take a bit to make them person specific like you all have said.
What are some genres all of you either strongly avoid or really like?

19. Each teammate reads a book another teammate read and rated 4 Stars or higher in the last 3 months. No pass for this task.
Some of my latest 5-stars:
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (4.5 rounded up--I'm stingy with my 5 stars)

Some of my latest 4 stars:
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
Final Girls by Riley Sager
The Vanishing by Wendy Webb
Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers
The Honey-Don't List by Christina Lauren
These Witches Don't Burn by Isabel Sterling
Lie to Me by J.T. Ellison
Little Monsters by Kara Thomas
The Perfect Son by Lauren North

64. Read 6 books not set on a continent of a teammate. Space does not count - must be a real continent.
We're all in North America, so that makes this one a little easier. 😜

74. Read 6 books published in a teammates' birth month, you may not use your own month.
Cyndee’s is February, Anna's is March, Leslie's is July, Keri’s is December

91. Add up the years of the teammates' births and each teammate reads a book with that minimum number of pages. For example, teammates were born in 75, 83, 87 and 94 - each teammate reads a book at least 339 pages long. No pass for this task.
Add Keri's to 220—’80 here, so 300 even! 😁

99. Each teammate lists 5 favorite books. Select books from 2 different teammates and read them.
This feels impossible, and I'm not there yet, but here's 6 and I'm going to see if I can narrow it down by any miracle all 3 of you have already read any of these...(2 of 3 had read Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah so I took that one out, but I truly loved that book too)
(I did exclude Beartown, which would go on there, since you can already choose it from others' lists lol--so that helped):
Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Guilty Wives by James Patterson & David Ellis (all James Patterson w/David Ellis are BY FAR the best options in my opinion)
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Keri | 212 comments Okay, I've answered all the lists now. I still have to read everyone else's and see if we're agreeing on much, but my brain and eyes hurt. Need to take a break and check back either later tonight or tomorrow.

message 68: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments Lol, it looks like we are agreeing on things. I'm sure, hopefully, Cyndee can help us fix all those great ideas. Yeah, just finish it when you can and then they will give us a new task. Mine worked for other challenges so I had to get that out of the way.

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll try to assemble our preferences into one place and we can make some decisions from there.

message 70: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1259 comments Thanks! I know we have some things that are pretty similar. I like that even 300! The books I read the past few months aren't always as diversified as usual because of the Olympics but hopefully I'll get to read all sorts of things for the next couple months. I mean even this week I have like 6 books that don't really have a lot of stuff in common.

Here are the top vote getters:

1/51/73. Same author (Top 3):
Colleen Hoover (if we choose her for the task where we each have to read a DIFFERENT book by the same author, I’m gonna call dibs on Heart Bones because it’s the only one I haven’t read yet :)
Amy Harmon
Christina Lauren

9. Each player reads a book in the same series, teams decide. No pass for this task.
Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout
I'm putting Cursebreakers by Brigid Kimmerer here too. Keri mentioned it and the first book was REALLY good! It could appeal to all of us. :)

27. Read a minimum of 750 pages in books published in any one year prior to 2018, team picks the year.
We all really had no preference, but Leslie threw out 2013 so let’s go with it! :)

29. Read over 750 pages in books about the same profession, teams decide which profession.
Lawyer

33. Read 6 books in the same sub-genre, teams decide.
Romantic Suspense/Mystery/Thriller

49. Each teammate reads a book published in the same month and year, teams decide. No pass for this task.
no preference (we’ll just wait...maybe if this one comes up we’ll all be ready to read books from the same month & year. LOL!)

50. Read 6 books set in the same location, teams decide the location.
Chicago

52. Read 6 books with the same color cover, teams decide color.
Yellow (most of us had no preference and Leslie mentioned blue or yellow, so I just picked my preference from those two...feel free to debate me on it. LOL)

53. Each teammate reads a book set in one of your teammates' home town (born in, raised in, currently live in - all work), teams decide. No pass for this task.
Leslie - Kelowna, BC

54. Read 6 books set on a beach or in the mountains, teams decide which.
Beach

55. Read 6 books set in the same country outside the US, teams decide country.
England/UK

56. As a team, pick a list with over 100 romance books on it, each member reads a book from that list. No pass for this task.

58. Read 6 books published in the year one of the teammates joined RRRC, teams decide which teammate.
Leslie - 2019

70. Read a minimum of 1200 pages in books of the same sub-genre, but by different authors.
Historical Fiction

72. Read 4 books published in the decade of a teammate's birth, team decides which teammate.
Anna/Keri - 1980s

75. Read over 1000 pages in books that start with the same letter (no articles), teams decide letter.
T

76. Read 6 books with a specific item on the cover, team selects item.
Shirt

79. Read 6 books that have the same romance trope, teams decide which trope.
Enemies-to-lovers

82. Each teammate reads a different book from the same series.
*the series we mentioned for this were the same as for #9, BUT those were both series where the books should be read in order. Since we have to each read a DIFFERENT book for this one, we should come up with another series that can all be read as stand alones. :)

90. Each member reads a book published in sequential months, i.e. June, July, August and September 2019. Teams decide which months. No pass for this task.
September-December

92. Read over 1500 pages in books set in the future or the past - teams decide.
Past

93. As a team, pick a Romance List from GR Listopia with less than 100 books on it, each teammate reads a book from that list. No pass for this task.
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1... - way more interesting than the list I put up

94. Read 6 books published in sequential years, teams decide years.
Another 'no preference' for everyone. Let’s do 2015-2018 since it doesn’t double up on the other decisions we’ve made regarding years. :)

95. As a team, select an animal. Read 8 books tagged with that animal.
Wolf

96. Read a minimum of 1200 pages with the sun or the moon on the cover, teams decide which.
Moon

64. Read 6 books not set on a continent of a teammate. Space does not count - must be a real continent.
We've got Europe in that UK/Britain task, so let's do Australia for this one :) Does that work for you all?

74. Read 6 books published in a teammates' birth month, you may not use your own month.
Cyndee: February
Anna: March
Leslie: July
Keri: December

bamaace83 | 1259 comments Hmmm, on the series is there a series that we are all working on but on different books? Let's see...

Black Dagger Brotherhood could be an option depending on where people are on that series and if there are any books still left for y'all to read.

I really like the FBI Series by Catherine Coulter. Those don't necessarily have to be read in order.

Stephanie Plum series could be another option.

I also like the KGI series by Maya Banks. This series I like better than some of her others and I've jumped all around in this one.

I’d pick Stephanie Plum series out of these just because I’ve read one and it’s the only one I’ve heard of lol.

The FBI one sounds like maybe I’d like it just based on the series name. I’ll look up the other two also

message 83: by [deleted user] (new)

Can Stephanie Plum be read out of order? I thought the story built up over the course of the series. If I'm wrong and they're basically stand alones, then I'd be okay with that one. My parents have been bugging me about reading it. LOL!

message 86: by Keri (last edited Sep 16, 2020 05:02PM) (new)

Keri | 212 comments Looks like you guys will be pushing me outside my comfort zone on many of these as my picks were outnumbered but I‘m up for some challenges and always like to learn new authors and see if there’s more I like :-)

Also, I have never read a Colleen Hoover book so it would be easy for me to pick a different one there. I do own two from clearance sales. I’ll look up which ones they are.

I have read I think two by Christina Lauren so I have a few options still left for different books for everyone from them too.

And I don’t know Amy Harmon, so I have all the options for her as well.

I don’t have Lux on my TBR but it sounds worth a try to me.
And obviously as I suggested it, I’m 100% down for the Cursebreakers series as I’ve been dying to get to book 2!

Everything else even if not my top pick seems totally findable to me.
My only concern is tagged wolf but mostly because I’ve never noticed things tagged an animal before I think lol. I’m sure I can find something even if it’s like a reread of twilight lol

I think if there are authors or areas you aren't familiar with, we might be able to offer helpful suggestions. For instance, I know you don't like the mushy stuff too much but most of Colleen Hoover's stuff is downright emotional. However, Verity is more suspense-ish so that might be a good fit for you, or even Too Late, which is on the dark side for her (okay, so it's kinda love-triangle-ish too, but... LOL!)

For Amy Harmon, I really think you'd like The First Girl Child. If I was recommending one of her books to someone who enjoyed Cursebreakers, that's the one I'd pick.

There's always room for discussion and changes. These just point us in a direction for the conversation. I definitely don't want one person to feel like they have to make all the sacrifices to what they want to read.

message 89: by [deleted user] (new)

Keri wrote: "Okay upon further checking the Colleen Hoover books I own are Without Merit and Verity."

I'd definitely recommend Verity first for you out of those two. (And it's funny, but those are probably my two least favorites of hers).

Keri | 212 comments That sounds good and I really feel I’d trust a lot of you guys recommendations especially if I give you info on what I like better.

I do sometimes like emotional like tearjerker ones sometimes, it’s more tons of sex scenes I’m not such a fan of, and like you said, super mushy.
I’m glad Verity is one of the Colleen Hoover’s I have then!

I sometimes like to be pushed outside my comfort zone so it’s not a bad thing for sure. Sometimes that’s how I find new favorites :-)

I trust my team to help me out with recommendations too and figure things out.

I do like having a semi-game plan set up too, even if we do fluctuate from it some.

Keri | 212 comments Haha! Apparently I don’t pay a lot of attention to author names because when you suggested The First Girl Child, I thought it sounded familiar so I searched it and it’s on my TBR!! 🤣

I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I've been wanting to read the KGI series, so would be happy with that, but really can make any of them work.

COMPLETION POST

0. As a team select your favorite month of 2019 (because 2020 basically SUCKS!) and each player reads a book initially published in that month. No pass for this task

The Bromance Book Club (Bromance Book Club, #1) by Lyssa Kay Adams
The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams
Read: 9/18/20
Pages: GR Kindle ~ 352
How if fits: Published November 5th 2019
Rating: 4.5 stars
My expectations for this one were not that high going into it, despite having several friends who rated it well. It was so much better than I was hoping! Professional baseball player Gavin and his wife Thea have been married for 3 years and are going through a rough patch. A few of Gavin's teammates/friends convince him that he can find everything he needs to win her back by taking their help and by reading romance novels. I don't often read stories that involve an existing couple from the very beginning and every time I do, I seem to love them. And I quite enjoyed the idea of a group of men having a book club centered around romance books so they can learn how to better relate to the women in their lives and make them happy. :)
