Wow, I see why all the mixed reviews. Listening to this audiobook actually gave me an anxiety attack. I finished it, but it was truly too intense for me. A slice of Minnesota history: immigration, foster care, racism and all varieties of bigotry. Of course it's beautifully written by Heidi Cullinan, and perfectly performed by Iggy Toma.

Fixed! And it is acting crazy, it kept switching back to the ebook edition no matter what I did. I don't know what's going on. It would be nice if amazon had actually put more money/time in goodreads when they bought it

Caipi (bookaholic17) | 1406 comments Selection Post - Task 12

#24. Read 6 books on RRRC's bookshelf, the books can not be added by anyone on your team within the last year.

Felix and the Prince (Forever Wilde, #2) by Lucy Lennox Felix and the Prince by Lucy Lennox
Pages: 318
How it qualifies: currently on the bottom of this RRRC shelf
Read: 6th October
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Review:
A modern day fairytale, unbelievable and way OTT but so cute! :)

Felix Wilde is fascinated with stained glass. When he gets the chance, he travels from his hometown Hobbie, Texas to the island Gadleigh in Europe. There he stays at Gadleigh Castle to enhance his research about the famous Gadleigh Glass and to finish his dissertation.
Prince Lio retreats for a short time to Gadleigh Castle to gather his strength before he has to take over his role as the King. When he meets there the beautiful stranger Felix, it's a welcome surprise that Felix isn't familiar with the royal family and doesn't know who Lio actually is.
Between the two is instantly an attraction, the sparks fly and the fairytale enfolds.

A typical Lucy Lennox story, a light, charming entertainment. I really enjoyed this sweet story. But well, it's so sweet you should enjoy these books only in small doses. ;)

I listened to the audio and once again the narrator Michael Pauley did an amazing job!

Trio | 2833 comments Caipi I wish I'd gone with something sweet and funny like you did. I actually ended up with an anxiety attack and had to take my meds. It's other nonsense too, of course, but that story is waaaaay intense.

Here's hoping for something light and fluffy for next time - maybe I'll be able to fit in another JL Merrow!

Oh no, I'm sorry, Trio! Reading should always make you feel good. Of course getting all kinds of emotional is part of the course but it should never get this heavy! Hope your next book is a lighter one.

So glad you’re able to still get in a vacation, even if it’s not the one originally planned! Not being able to travel is one of the hardest parts of Covid in my opinion. We had originally planned to take our honeymoon this month but luckily hadn’t booked anything as it would’ve all had to be cancelled!

message 523: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 4155 comments We got married March 7th, which was incredibly lucky. We had wanted to get married March 14th (I wanted to have pie for PI Day lol), but our venue was booked so we basically flipped a coin to decide if we would do weekend before or weekend after. If we had done the weekend after, we would have had to postpone (and probably lost out on a lot of deposits and such as it would've cut it so close).

That sucks about your brother Janine! Hopefully he was able to get it all worked out though. I know when we were in the planning stage all my venders told me that 2020 was shaping up to be their busiest year because a lot of people wanted that 2020 anniversary year, so I feel so incredibly bad for all the people who have had to reschedule.

30. Read 6 books with nekkid man chest on the cover.

Exposed chest is required for this task, can have an open shirt on though. You can use any edition cover to qualify, but remember to use the first edition Kindle page count. Please include the qualifying cover in your completion post.

PS - I am less concerned about the link to the book being to the Kindle edition than I am about the page count being correct. I do need a link to the book, but don't stress over which one you choose except when needed for different tasks. 😊

Sorry you missed out on both the cake and pie!

Their wedding was a perfect representation of the two of them! The food was catered by the pizza place they were working at when they met. And the pie was from the local mountain apple pie place that is iconic locally - it is an annual rite of fall for many people to go get apple pie every year. They had apple, peach and one of my favorites apple berry crumb pie - yum!

Ace by Jenna Elliot
Length: 208 pages
Completed: 10/7/2020
Rating: 3 Stars
How it Qualifies: Ace (The Club #2) by Jenna Elliot
Review:
Ace: The Club #2 is the second novel in the series; I didn't read the first one and had no trouble following along. Jenna Elliot is a new author for me, and I've got to say they write mighty fine erotica. The D/s scenes in this one are really well done.

Emme is an interesting character. A combination of submissive and self-confidant woman, I really liked her. A strong friend, and a powerful self advocate, Emme is well done. Ace is pretty superficial, but if we meet him in the first novel of the series then I could be wrong about his character development and I apologize. There's a nice supporting cast of characters. Emme's family is great.

I listened to this one specifically to see how Nick J. Russo narrates an M/F romance (yes, I've never heard him do one so I was curious). Got to say, I'm really impressed. This is a side to him I haven't seen before, and I've listened to him perform over 50 M/M romance audiobooks. There's no mistaking it when he gets the characters.

How it Qualifies: Crushing on My Father's Best Friend (Second Chance Lovers, #1) by Austin Bates
Review:
I enjoy the edge Austin Bates adds to their romances. Yes, they're super sweet, but there's that edge of danger, or bad guys, that kind of thing. There's nice chemistry between the MCs and a good story.

Audio performed by C.S. Harder who is doing a nice job with this series.

Review: Rosen’s writing works really well for me. It has a good amount of humor but also always an intriguing story line to back it up and keep me interested. In this one we have three sort-of dead people trying to solve one of their murders with the help of a lonely IT guy and a tiny turban wearing medium. It was ridiculous, you definitely have to suspend all disbelief, but its worth it for a truly fun tale. The one downside with this one is the romance is kind of lacking. It’s definitely an instant kind of love, and then the two don’t actually spend all that much time together, but the end message is very sweet.

Review: A fantastic start to a series! It was an intriguing mystery, with what seems like a long term mystery in the background, sooo steamy (these two have explosive chemistry from the beginning), and suspenseful at times where I was on the edge of my seat. I look forward to continuing this series!

So, the audio narrated by Michael Ferraiuolo was excellent!
The story itself didn't quite convince me. The main characters, Dean and grumpy Sloane, were interesting and lovely and their friendship was really great, all snuggley and cuddley on the couch! :) Unfortunately I only read about their development from friends to lovers but I didn't really feel it.
