Steph's Readathon - Spring 2024
Hour 12: 4pm-5pmBook read: Neverwhere
Pages read: 50
I’m super happy with my progress during that reading sprint! Other than Lumberjanes, that’s the most I’ve read in an hour!
Hour 13: 5pm-6pmBook read: Hazel and Gray (audio)
Time listened: 9 mins
Food/drink: smoked tri tip, dinner roll, chocolate chip cookies, and Sparkling Ice lemonade
Hour 15: 7pm-8pmBook read: Nerdy Ever After: A Nerdy Novel
Pages read: 8
Food: pocky sticks (I may be addicted lol)
I really need to start planning out my readathon TBR better! I got stuck on what to read after my audiobook so I lost a lot of reading time, but lesson learned for October!
Hour 16: 8pm-9pmBook read: Nerdy Ever After: A Nerdy Novel
Pages read: 44
I picked this book on a whim to try to get a Bingo and I loved the title. This is such a cute and funny middle grade book!
Stephanie wrote: "Hour 10: 2pm-3pmBook read: Neverwhere

I love pocky! I was hoping to get some for this but 3 different stores (including an Asian market, and No pocky except the green tea flavor which I don't care for). Looks like you have been reading some great books!

They are so delicious and addicting!! They may be my readathon tradition now.
Graphic novels are a must part of my TBR for readathons. More pictures and less reading is a good change-up and the pages go by faster.
April 2021 Wrap-upBooks read:
Rule of Wolves 63 pages - FINISHED (started before the readathon)
Lumberjanes, Vol. 1: Beware the Kitten Holy 132 pages - FINISHED
Neverwhere 88 pages
Hazel and Gray 1 hour audio (30 pages) - FINISHED
Nerdy Ever After: A Nerdy Novel 52 pages
Total pages read: 335 (not including audio short story)
Total audio time: 1 hour
Total hours reading: 7.25 hours
Thoughts:
I didn't read as much as I wanted to and started later than I planned, but it was still a decent readathon. I was able to talk a friend into joining me this time so that's a win! I was able to get 3 Bingos for my first time playing and I'm happy that I get to mark 3 books as finished. I also didn't get a headache this time which was a relief...I think the pre-readathon game helped with that!
Learned:
Plan better!! For someone who loves planning and organizing I failed this time, but I learned a few things...
1. Have several graphic novels on hand! They are quick reads that are easily finished in a one hour sprint. And marking something as finished feels like an accomplishment and is a huge boost to motivation.
2. Audiobooks are okay! I always stayed away from audiobooks because I felt like I was "cheating" since I'm not actually reading, but that was so nice to have an eye break before my last sprint.
3. Have several shorter/children's books lined up! Reading a middle grade book was a nice change. They are easy, cute reads and great for avoiding burnouts.
4. Always have at least one Neil Gaiman book available! I find his books so immersive so I usually read them pretty fast.
5. Always have Pocky Sticks for snacks lol!
Now I "patiently" wait for July!

Great stats, Stephanie!
Next time I probably won’t have any graphic novels to read, so I’m expecting a drop in total pages read.
See you in July!

Great job, Stephanie!I'm with you on having a graphic, middle grade, and audio book on hand. The more variety, the better for me because I love jumping around.

Thank you Susy! Graphic novels definitely do boost the page count! See you in July!

Thank you Ann! It was definitely nice to have variety this time!
Looking forward to the reverse readathon next month! I'm hoping to read for a total of 12 hours. I'll post my possible TBR the week before the readathon.
Susy wrote: "Good luck, Stephanie! Will you be participating in the pre-readathon challenges as well?"
Thank you, Susy and good luck to you too! The only pre-readathon activity I'm going to participate in is tracking my hours. I'm trying to catch up on yearly challenges and unfortunately none match the pre-readathon prompts.
Pre-Readathon Hours Read ChallengeI've had more reading time lately because of the heat wave, but my goal is to increase my time a little each day to prepare for the readathon so I hopefully won't quickly burnout.

Hi Stephanie. I see we have some of the same theories about what books to read in a RAD. This time I will be reading LumberJanes. Many here seem to like the book or want to read the book. Count me in! . . . .See you here on the 7th.

I have a couple graphic novels ready for this time, but I'm going to look for more. See you on the 7th!
August 2021 Reverse Readathon Possible TBR:I'm not used to planning my reading in advance. I usually just read whatever catches my attention as my next book, but I have learned that I need to plan a lot for readathons. This time I'm hoping to make progress on or finish my current reads. I also found several graphic novels and middle grade books and a short story to have quick, light-hearted breaks and hopefully prevent a burnout and headache.

I love Dr. Pepper, esp. cherry vanilla! This reverse RaT I decided to abstain from soda in favor of green tea. I cant suggest it. but if you try it; use tea bags not a bunch of loose-leaf tea like I did. lol

Thoughts:
I did better than I thought I had. I feel like I was reading slower than usual, but I was distracted and not in the best reading mood. My stats are still higher than in April though and I'm excited that I can mark 4 books as finished! I did a lot better with planning a TBR this time so I didn't spend a lot of time trying to decide what to read next which was really nice.
Learned:
Even though I planned my TBR better, I failed with my snacks! Next time I need to check my snacks and drinks a couple days before the RAT.
I will be out of town for the October one, but hopefully I'll be able to join in the one after that!
I'm not able to participate in the RAT this time due to a family gathering on the same day. I'm going to do some of the pre-readathon challenges though, mostly the Long Laps.Long Laps #1: Sept 8th thru Sept 19
