Ryan Hey, Kvothe just got (view spoiler)

message 152: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments Not quite there with everyone. Some RL interuptions slowed me down. But I AM starting to like Kvothe more. He's a con-man in training to be sure, but at least he's not a complete ass.

message 153: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments He can be so freaking smart, and then all of a sudden do something totally dumb (view spoiler). But overall, I have to admit, it's a great story.

A hundred pages to go. Loving Kvothe. Definitely not an asshole. He tries to lie from time to time and fails . Hes always interesting and what a cheeky mind. Would love to here the Jackass,Jackass song. I'll be buying book 2 very very soon .

Hes a teenage boy. No matter how smart they are they are always very dumb as well. Major misjudgement and over confidence are his main failings. And a complete misunderstanding of all women which we all went through ☺

message 156: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hamelin Haven't even read a hundred pages but I'm already hooked, love the book, the characters and the way it's written so far.

message 157: by Matt (last edited Jan 22, 2015 08:53AM) (new)

Matt | 28 comments I started and stopped this only after 30 pages the beginning seemed really slow and had a hard time getting in to it but I'm 100 pages in now and now that he's telling his story I'm hooked.

message 158: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments It was definitely Patrick Rothfuss's writing style that's really keeping me going. I have a love/hate thing going on with Kvothe, though!

I just want to know more about Bast...

message 160: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
Bast is very interesting background character. Kevin told me the short story in Rogues is about Bast.

message 161: by Kevin (new)

Kevin There is a short story about Bast in the Rogues anthology Rinn. I don't think it is that great a story but you do get to see more of his character and his interactions with the people of the village.

message 162: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Waheyy Paul :)

message 165: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

It is ☺

message 166: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments Rinn wrote: "Ooh cool! Is that the anthology edited by GRRM?"

Aye. Quite a few edited by him. Nice stuff.

message 167: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 150 comments Yeah I like how we don't forget that he is a child even with his prodigy status a kid is still a kid and he will make mistakes because he doesn't know any better no life experiences. I think I'll read the second book next month.

Also you all are welcome for the song. :)

I haven't read a GRRM anthology yet but they are so purrrty lookin'.

Rogues is great but i got it as a Hardback to match my ASOIF editions and it was quite the heavy lifting to read it.

message 169: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Ooh Harry just embarrassed Professor Snape in class! This won't go well for him...

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments That professor was asking for it after his 'gates of hell' comment, imho. But, no, things don't go well for Kvothe.

Finished this morning and I have to say I lived it from start to finish. Great story and great character. ☺

message 173: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments I plan on finishing it this weekend - Saturday and Sunday should be pretty calm here.

Did you already buy the next one?

message 174: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
Not yet but I will. I'm trying to figure when I'll get time to hit the book shop

message 175: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hamelin I have a quick question, if someone could answer, but please don't spoil if the answer is somewhere later in the book: (view spoiler)

Glad to hear you enjoyed it, Paul :D

Don't forget you can also use the Book of the Month discussion thread from 2013, if you want to chat about the whole thing without having to worry about hiding spoilers. And there's also a Fantasy Casting Call thread too :)

What is your native language, if I may ask?

message 178: by Jonathan (last edited Jan 23, 2015 08:59AM) (new)

Jonathan Hamelin Leigh wrote: "What is your native language, if I may ask?"

French. I am a Québécois (french-canadian) but I have, at least I think, a strong enough English to read it in its original language. I always prefer to read a book in its original language, whenever I can!

I agree, that's always better for books and movies. We have a French/English speaking family and I always have to insist that the kids watch or read stuff in the original language - this especially keeps their English up to speed!

That's great! The more languages you know, the better! When I have kids, I'll make sure they know AT LEAST French & English. Oh and thanks for the help by the way!

It's because of what Bast is. I'll just say it like that. Thats why the Chronicler attacked him.

I've just realised I have an horrendous book hangover. I'm getting ready for bed and my mind is still going over it and I realise I'm going to miss being in that world. Its a while since I've had a bad one of them.

message 185: by Kevin (new)

Kevin You have plenty left to explore, Paul, don't fret :) read Bast's short story while you wait.

I'm probably way behind everyone else since I had to literally squeeze my book club book in before the meeting yesterday but I really love this book so far. I see a book hangover in my future as well. ;)

message 191: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 150 comments When I finished this book I sold my copy to a used book store I was like uugh prob not going to read it again, its huge to bye bye bye. I'm still not going to re-read it but I do want to check out the second book which I wasn't sure I did after finishing it.

message 192: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments I am almost done! Major hangover in the making! I will definitely be reading the next one, which is a change from most of the 1st books of series that I've read lately.

I was looking on line for part 2. I'll buy it sooner rather than later. I'll either head into a shop or order from forbidden planet , where I'll get part 2 plus the Slow Regard of Silent Things as a signed edition for 20 quid for both .

message 194: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments I've got my eye on TSRoST, too, but I'll probably save it for later!
