No 11.99 for the signed copy and 8 for Wise Mans Fear so 20 altogether for both☺

message 202: by Matt (new)

Matt | 28 comments I'm half way through now I have been taking this book a little slower than usual. It's gotten a lot more interesting now that he's at the university. Having a hard time deciding what I think of Kvothe. I both like him and find him frustrating and a little full of himself. It's a great story none the less.

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments Kvothe is again, his own worse enemy.

message 204: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Speaking of which, hurry up and pay off your debt Kvothe! It will be the end of you.

message 205: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
Doomed I tells you ☺

That's the issue. He keeps paying it off, then dipping in deeper. And then REALLY deeper.

message 207: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
He just seems to pay off the interest for a long while . Silly boy ☺

message 208: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments Like most young men, he hasn't the faintest clue how to manage his money; especially when he really wants something. To his credit, though, the things he buys are mostly necessary, either for body or soul!

message 209: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments AND DONE. Not a bad book after all. Kinda wanted to face palm 1/2 the book through. Kvothe needs help. Badly.

message 210: by Ryan (last edited Jan 26, 2015 09:53PM) (new)

Ryan Yeah Kvothe is frustrating.

message 211: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments What's very frustrating? I know people like him in read life. Smart, wicked smart, clever when they want to be, and a real charmer...but the lack of wisdom. OIY. Painful.

message 212: by Ryan (new)

Ryan What's with every character running their hands through their hair? Is it to symbolise the wind?

message 213: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments Hah! I hadn't noticed that while reading. I hope it's just the author's way of describing guys and not symbolism!

message 214: by Ryan (new)

Ryan I hope it is symbolism! The alternative is for every character to have the same mannerisms. I guess a couple play with their mouths and one strokes his own cheek. That's diversity enough I suppose.

message 215: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments Where are you in the book?

message 216: by Ryan (new)

Ryan About threequarters through. Kvothe is up in the hills with his friend, investigating the incident at the wedding. I actually feel like things are about to kick off, but life has been interfering. I just moved into my new house today.

message 217: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
Congrats on the new house ☺

message 218: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments And you have time to read? Wow! Best wishes for the new place :)

message 219: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
Well I took the plunge and bought Wise Mans Fear yesterday

message 220: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments And stayed up all night reading it? Or are you taking a break for some other books?

message 221: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
Short break I think . But I will read it soon

message 222: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments Should we set up a buddy read?

message 223: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
It might be an idea. This one went down well. I think it coukd be nominated as a monthly read as well

message 224: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments That's true, the group already did TNoTW a few months back!

message 225: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
Possible plan then ☺

message 226: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments We'll shoot for March - this should give me the break I need to get some others read.

message 227: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
Definitely a plan. I've a TBR pile to dent as well. If bot we'll go buddy read again .

message 228: by Matt (new)

Matt | 28 comments And finished. I liked it but I think I like the writing more than the story so far. Kvothe drives me crazy half the time. I think most of it is concerning his romantic relationship and mostly because it reminds me of being a 15 year old boy.

message 229: by Joey (new)

Joey (mostlyjoe) | 178 comments I'll eventually get to Wise Men Fear, but it's pushed WAY down in my schedule now. But this was a fun Buddy Read though. Thank you all.

message 230: by Ryan (new)

Ryan I'm nearly done. Kvothe has just formulated his cunning plan for dealing with the lizard.

message 231: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments It has been a fun buddy read!

message 232: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
Thanks for setting it up Leigh. I quite enjoyed it ☺

message 233: by Matt (new)

Matt | 28 comments Has anyone else already started Wise Mans Fear? I was going to hold off but started it last night /:

message 234: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments I was thinking of waiting until March, to see if the club will do it, or maybe another buddy read. It was just too irresistible for you, I guess!

message 235: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
I was tempted but I'm trying to get through a few different genres ☺

message 236: by Matt (new)

Matt | 28 comments I honestly had all intentions of waiting a bit especially since there seems to be no signs of a firm release date for the third book but I couldn't stop thinking about how torn I am between hating and liking Kvothe and had to see if the second book would make me shift to one side.

message 237: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
As good a reason as any ☺

Finished! I won't post any spoilers here but I just want to say that I loved this book. Definite book hangover and I'll be picking the next one up soon.

message 240: by Paul, A wanderer in unknown realms (new)

Paul | 3571 comments Mod
We might nominate for next months read if your up for it then

message 241: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Am I the lone straggler? I'm nearly done. Hopefully finished tomorrow night if I can resist staring dumbly at the Super Bowl for four hours.

message 242: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments Ahh, the Super Bowl....who can read when American football is on? ;)

I am definitely down for nominating it for next months read.

This was my first read-a-long that I've participated in on GR, it was fun. :)

Well if so many of you are up for nominating/voting for it, then it stands a pretty good chance! :)

We shall see ☺

message 247: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Rothfuss writes well but every now and then the little things jar me. As well as the shared mannerism of every character running their hands through their hair, I'm finding the verb 'to drink off' being used far too often. Far more than just 'to drink'.

Probably just a case of small things amusing...

message 248: by Ryan (last edited Feb 01, 2015 08:40PM) (new)

Ryan And I'm a laggard no longer! I will definitely read the next one. In fact I feel I don't have a choice.

message 249: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 168 comments I found that a lot of the secondary characters had similar, snarky voices, esp. at the university. But it didn't bother me too much.

message 250: by One (new)

One (joramvandebeld) | 27 comments Anyone up for a new buddyread of this book? Got this giant book lying on my desk now and almost finished my current read.
