The Name of the Wind - 16 January
I'll gladly discuss with you, it's one of my favourite books! I don't have the time for a re-read, though.
Awesome! The more the merrier.@Paul: do you need me to push the start date back? Let me know what works for you.
I'll be reading it this year but can't start until about the 16th if you guys can wait. I was going to comment in the existing threads anyway so I won't be gutted if you start without me.
I won't be re-reading as I don't have access to it at the mo, but I will join in conversation. Love that book! :)
Forgive my passive voice but The Name of the Wind has been shuffled to the top of my to-read-in-2015 shelf. That makes it all official.
My pleasure! I needed some external motivation to get this one started, too. And I have very high expectations....
I will discuss it with you all as I can. I have read it and would like to see everyone Else opinions and also compare them to my own.
I read this late last year and really enjoyed it. I moved directly on to the sequel afterwords and it definitely met my expectations. I can't wait until Doors of Stone is released! There are so many questions that need resolving.
I went to the book signing for Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way and theatre premiere of Man With the Screaming Brain. It was so epic!
Bruce Campbell is as awesome in person as he is on film.
But anywho, I would be down for doing the buddy read on this as well.

Well today's the 16th, however my wife and kid fly to NZ tomorrow afternoon so I'm spending the remaining time with them. They'll be away for two weeks though so I'll get plenty of reading done. Starting tomorrow night.By all means start without me. I will certainly catch up.
@Hybrid - how totally cool! Buddy read starts today, and it's great to have you (fans of Bruce are totally welcome here!). @Ryan - No problem, I'm sure you'll get lots of pages done with the extra calm and quiet on the home-front!
Well, I have to admit, I jumped the gun and got started late last night. I'm in love with his writing style or 'voice' already - engaging and lyrical without ever being heavy. Finished the first chapter and all I have to say so far is: (view spoiler)
I'm looking forward to this a while. Its been heavily recommended . I got the Gollancz yellow 50th anniversary edition for 5 euro which is quite the bargain for a big hardback.
I should get to start later today .

50th Anniversary of what?
I'll wait until you all get a little more into the book to state my unpopular opinions on the main character and why he is untrustworthy and... I'll just wait.
As Rinn said Its Gollancz . They issued a set of greats Scifi /Fantasy books in their classic yellow design for the anniversary.
Chakara, I know exactly what you mean with the protagonist. I didn't have trouble with him but I know exactly where you are coming from. I'll wait until it's fairly well into it to comment further as well.
Yeah, that 50th anniversary thing confused me, too. I was worried that there was some other book with the same title written 50 years ago until I googled the whole thing. Sounds like a great deal for a hardback!@Chakara, thanks for waiting! :)
Definitely keep an eye out for that set coming back in stock if you want even just ONE of those books :o
Paul wrote: "As Rinn said Its Gollancz . They issued a set of greats Scifi /Fantasy books in their classic yellow design for the anniversary."This is where the confusion came in I don't know who Gollancz is but now I'm guessing it's a publishing house.
Paul wrote: "Its one of the big scifi and fanyasy publishers . Orion now owns them"I know Orion I don't know Gollancz never heard of it. I'm guessing its more international.
So did any other first-time readers manage to start? It's another cold, grey day here in Switzerland. I'll be hitting my sofa pretty soon with kindle and coffee in hand!
Just got back from dropping my girls at the airport, and hope to have City of Stairs finished before bed. The Name of the Wind is next up.

Not sure if I'm doing this right (let me know gently if not!), but I've had The Name of the Wind sitting on my kindle for several weeks. Anyone want to buddy read it with me starting next week, or later if that is too soon?
Feel free to jump in the conversation, anyone who has already read it!
