Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion
Wheelathon 5

Team Don Quixote
I didn’t mean to cut it so close to the deadline, guys - I’m sorry! Today just ended up being a little busier than I thought. But I trucked through most of one last night, then finished up the shorty today. I don’t like cutting it so close, but hey - as long as I get them done, I’m a happy camper. :p
I am going to look through my books. I should be able to do another 3 this round at least. One of my books will be:
For Letter E - Author name: Emily Henry
Everybody knows one of the best Tag-Finding tricks, right?https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...
Replace XXXX with the tag you are looking for.
It actually looks like GR may have updated the functionality of this. Works even better than I remembered.
Super helpful! That's how I found like two dozen Round 2 tagged books on my TBR. :)

We read 71 books in Round 1, so based on that we should be able to spell YODELLING 8 times this round! And I'm abandoning the "Read bigger books" philosophy, so I should be able to read a few more this Round. I know I saw the rules, and the percentage for page points, but I was still in the mindset "Bigger is better!" until I was updating the spreadsheet and realized that 2 200 page books was the exact same # of points as 1 400 page book. :)

That would make it a true challenge.
I am still reading 2 longer books each round. But that’s my own personal challenge.

I read that and enjoyed it. 😃

We had a great first round! My ask is if you claim a spot and realize you won't be able to finish, please delete it from the planning sheet so someone else can get it completed before the deadline.I know we can spell YODELLING at least 8 times, but I say let's try for 10! Go find those vowels so we can knock this out.
Communication is key! Life definitely gets in the way of our reading time, so let us know if you placed books and can't get to them before the deadline.
i’m planning to read 4 books this round - 2 shorter (up to 300 pages) and 2 longer ones (up to 630), if i have enough time, i’ll try to read more, but 4 still may end up being a challenge (i’m pretty positive about reading 3, 4th may be read in a rush, but i’ll try my best)
I had a book planned that works for E, but y’all are on top of the E’s! I don’t think mine will work for any other letters, unfortunately. So I’m just gonna put it down for the 7th E for now... (since we will probably complete at least 7 anyway).I’ll make sure my next one works for something like O, N, or G - since we seem to have a lot of those unclaimed. I had just planned the E because I didn’t realize we’d have so many E’s covered so quickly.😂

Okay, good! As long as I know I’m doing it right. LOL.
Laura - I finished A Dead and Stormy Night. It was good! A little bit mystery and paranormal. It was hard to put down!

When you are putting a book on the spreadsheet, if it doesn't work for any other letters, can you please put None or N/A in the Other Letters column? That would be helpful! Thanks!

Ugh! I'm gonna need a beer...stat!"
I put it down for task #52, only text on cover. It would also work for Black cover if you want to switch it.
Robyn wrote: "I can add these 2 books as well:
- Tag - Winter and Character - Nina
- for letter D"For a task for Winter Garden, it can work for #157, Insect on cover (butterflies are insects!); #58, Winter scene on cover; #97, set in Eastern Europe?; or set in Russia; or possibly #7, takes place in two timelines.
I don't know what else you plan to read in the near future, so I'll let you pick where to put it. :)
For Dream Lake, I put it down for an N, for the MC, since we have fewer of those than of Ds. :)
For a task for Dream Lake, it works for MPG Contemporary, Romance, Paranormal, or Fantasy; #3 in series; 1 person on cover; set on a Pacific Island (I'm checking with the other captains on this one); Country scene on the cover; Geological feature in title (also checking with other captains on this one); body of water on the cover;

For Winter Garden I think task # 157 insect on cover.

I'll put it down. I also edited my comment and included possibilities for Dream Lake as well.
Does anyone know if Beartown has any characters that work for our word? It has the Winter tag, and I enjoyed A Man Called Ove.
It's too bad the challenge is quite short book focused, there's so many longer books I want to get to, especially now that it's summer! I'll probably be reading a mix of short and long books. There's at least one readathon I want to do so that should help with the short books!
Laura wrote: "I loved Quoth the Raven! :)"My library has book 2 and 3. I will wait to see if we get a word with Q before I read the other 2 books. Quoth would be great for that letter!
Britta wrote: "It's too bad the challenge is quite short book focused, there's so many longer books I want to get to, especially now that it's summer! That’s why I’m doing a mix of both.
Laura wrote: "When you are putting a book on the spreadsheet, if it doesn't work for any other letters, can you please put None or N/A in the Other Letters column? That would be helpful! Thanks!"Sure! Sorry! I just left mine blank if it doesn’t work for anything else. I’ll start putting N/A. :p
I can post it in a bit. It will be a week from Friday, at whatever time the previous round started & ended (2:00 in the afternoon for me in California). But remember, we need you to finish/post about an hour before that, since that’s our check-in time.
Ok good. I am in so many challenges that I am losing my mind trying to remember when the rounds are over. I should probably note that on my spreadsheet lol
Anybody besides me planning to do the July Adult BOM, The Sun Down Motel? It starts soon. I've been wanting to read it for a while :)

Geri wrote: "A few books from the library became available recently. So I am adding them in where possible.😀"My library is now open for a drive-up check-out! I've got a few to add now, too!
And A Murderous Relation is being shipped to me right now. I saw that you're going to read it. :)
Alysa wrote: "Anybody besides me planning to do the July Adult BOM, The Sun Down Motel? It starts soon. I've been wanting to read it for a while :)"I'm not a big fan of thrillers. Give me some high fantasy, a good space opera, or a sweet/hot romance any day, though!
I don't read many thrillers either -- they usually tend to piss me off in some way -- but sometimes find myself attracted when certain locations are involved, and in particular Upstate New York where I spent most of my childhood, and some of my family still lives. I'm all "Let's see if it's realistic!" :D

I haven't ready any space opera books yet, but I always wanted to try one and never know what book to start with. Do you have any recommendations or like a fav book?
There's a Space Opera in my Rec post! :D
And the sequel comes out this summer, so if you read and like the first one, there is that to look forward to as well!
Robyn wrote: "Laura wrote: "Alysa wrote: "Anybody besides me planning to do the July Adult BOM, The Sun Down Motel? It starts soon. I've been wanting to read it for a while :)"I'm not a big fan..."
Robyn, it depends on what you like.
David Weber's Honor Harrington series is classic Space Opera. No one can write a space battle like Weber. If you like straight Sci-Fi, you might like this one. On Basilisk Station
If you like a good YA novel, Illuminae is a great read. I recommend it on Audio or a physical copy. The alternative formatting doesn't work very well with ebooks, I've been told.
If you want a Space Opera that is character/relationship driven, Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga is wonderful! Goodreads shows a publication order series list, and a chronological order series list, but here is the author's suggested reading order:
https://www.goodreads.com/story/show/...
If you like your romance on the steamy side, Kidnapped By Her Husbands is the start of a 12 book Reverse Harem series. Every relationship covers 2 books, and then moves on to a new set of men/woman for the next 2 books, and moves along an overall storyline.
The difference between Sci-Fi and Space Opera is like the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars. Not everyone likes both, but they each have different good points about them!
