I found a few gems that (I own) are less than 100 pages are those ok?"
Nope, sorry. They have to be 100 pages to count towards anything.
I was going to mention there's a Freebies and author giveaways board on NBRC. There will be a lot of rare gems in there since authors tend to promote most when they have fewest reviews.

Any number of pages above 100.

If the hero defeats the rat in round one, can it attack back?
✯Hero: Level 2 || Health: 12 || Sword: Level 3 || Magic: Level 3 || Exp: 5
Attack (3+ 2) = 5 (3 + 2 ) = 5
Attack Sewer Rat - 3 AP, 5 HP - Reward: 1 XP

.return attack?

You're welcome to just play along for part of it too. You can just do the quests. If you want to come back and join us later you can too. Best of reading to you.

Glad it's going well for you :)

And question....
Is it my choice if I'm using sword or staff or it depends on monster?"
Hi Tea, I'm not Kelly but everything looks alright.
The link for Texas Heat you used leads to a 143-page edition but I checked other editions and it's clear that you read another one that has 237 pages. So it's o.k.
Re your question:I think that it's up to you which weapon you use. That being said, if you look at very rare monsters (some of the dragons) you'll find out that one of the weapons doesn't have full effect on them so it would be advisable to use the other one.

I'll change that link. No idea how it got there since I'm copy/paste them all the same :P

"• Great Red Dragon - A flaming fiery beast with one molten eye that gleams with the fires of.... well, you know. This beast is highly magical. Your magic staff will only do half of it's normal damage however your sword has an additional 2 attack against this beast.
15 Attack 50 Health - Reward: 30 Experience, Orb of Fire (Adds 3 attack to a magic staff)
• Great Green Dragon - This earth dragon lives deep under a mountain of steel. This beast has become almost immune to the touch of a sword but fire will soften his armor. Your sword will only do half of it's normal damage however your magic staff has an additional 2 attack against this beast.
18 Attack 40 Health - Reward: 30 Experience, Orb of Earth (Adds 3 attack to a sword)"
There might be some other monsters along the way that have attributes like that as well.
And your post looks fine :)

What happens when our tracking posts get too many characters to fit into one post? O_O"
You just make a new post and at the top of it, link back to your original one. That's why instead of making a new post every time you finish a quest or anything, you just edit your original one, so that everything you've done is all in one spot for you to easily find and edit as needed. And then you would just continue on, making a post and linking, however long you needed to go.

The mods have this listed in the FAQ on the first page. It says:
"Q: How do I track my progress?
- Create a post
- Add a summary section at the bottom to show the current status of your hero.
- Edit the post and add any quests, levels, fights, etc. in a list from oldest to newest. (Remember, you can only turn in active quests, turning in the quest gives you the reward. You can recover books from quests that expire before you turn them in and use them on different quests.)
- If you run out of characters in your post, create a new post and link back to the previous one."

I have no idea what Kelly has planned so i don't know how long it'll take.
If you end up without space, you can always make new post. It'll be separate from your previous ones, but you can always link them. (Or in your case, use that third with question)
You can set it up as you like. No need to ask permission :P It's you who's going to keep track in it.

Some quest must be completed before you get the experience, others you can get it as you go (usually there's a completion bonus too).
You don't remove the experience if you don't complete the quest you just don't get any completion bonus for it. Some berries are better than no berries :)

Common Monsters: (Kill 1 a week)
Example:Common Monster Type: Last Killed: XX/XX/XXXX, Available Next: XX/XX/XXXX + 1 week
• Goblin - A green little angry fellow that likes to stab weary (and unweary) travelers with sharp pointy sticks.
6 Attack 10 Health - Reward: 1 Experience, 1 Goblin Bone
• Sewer Rat - The bane of all young hero's, the iconic sewer rat. Biting at ankles, he makes his presence known one nip and nibble at a time.
3 Attack 5 Health - Reward: 1 Experience
• Brown Bat - The brown bats are much prettier than the black bats because of their grace, stamina and ability to make a lovely bat leather hat.
3 Attack 15 Health - Reward: 1 Experience, 1 Bat Wing
Uncommon Monsters:
• Omnibus Troll - The Omnibus Troll is the perfect mix of all trolls in one. It's big and ugly and can occasionally sing Disney based songs when near donkeys. (Population: 3)
7 Attack 35 Health - Reward: 3 Experience, 1 Heal Potion.
• Lexicon Ness Monster - The Lexicon Ness Monster is a close cousin of another more popular lake dwelling creature. It spends it's days frolicking in the water, making bubbles and eating unsuspecting boaters. (Population: 2)
10 Attack 30 Health - Reward: 3 Experience, 1 Minor Poison Potion.
Rare Monsters:
• Great Red Dragon - A flaming fiery beast with one molten eye that gleams with the fires of.... well, you know.
18 Attack 40 Health - Reward: 30 Experience, Orb of Earth (Adds 3 attack to a sword)
• Great Blue Dragon - This dragon rules the seas, and lakes, and streams, and inlets, and fjords and probably lots of other water related terms. Both of your weapons have a tendency to hit a bit softer on this beast (half as hard if you want to know specifics). However, for each healing potion you use, the blue dragon loses 5 health points.
15 Attack 60 Health - Reward: 30 Experience, Orb of Water (Automatically heal one health at the end of every fight)
• Great Yellow Dragon - This dragon rules the air. Yes... Like all the other flying dragons. But this one rules it extra special. Your one advantage is bat wings. Yes, bat wings. You can use 2 bat wings for a turn to fly up and meet the dragon on it's own turf and increase your attack power by 5!
15 Attack 80 Health - Reward: 30 Experience, Orb of Air (For quests requiring 4 or more items, this reduces the amount of items needed for a quest by 1).
• Great Novel Dragon - The king of all dragons, the Great Novel Dragon has been featured in stories far and wide. To fell this mighty beast you must be the strongest of all the hero's in all the lands in all the worlds in all the universes and so on and so forth.
25 Attack 150 Health - Reward: 50 Experience, Title of Power (The next NBRC newsletter will hail your praise as the "Great Novel Dragon Slayer" and you will receive a place in the Hall of Fame.)

I'm going to stick with the original description. I was trying to avoid the issues we were having with the Christmas quest.
So if it's on a list of synonyms for the 4 words then it can be used.
http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/heal?s=t
http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/cure?s=t
http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/rest?s=t
http://www.thesaurus.com/browse/blood...
That seems to give about 100 words that are acceptable.

Your hero's level will affect your max health. Your hero's weapon's level will affect their damage.
Magic Staff - Attack = Level of Staff + 2
Sword - Attack = Level of Sword + 2
It's always just 2+level. For the most part the weapons are equal but some monsters are weaker/stronger to different ones so that will affect attack too. (That part is in the monster description.)

Thank you!

For example, a phoenix tear will heal wounds, so if Tear/Tears is..."
Kelly, I went through the links and some of the words are just ridiculous: free, set, settle, knit, ease, stop, stay, claret, gore. They simply don't fit the bill (healing words). And another words that would be logical like: hospital, doctor, clinic, injection are not included? I'm for using common sense. I guess that when you need to ask if the word is acceptable, it means you yourself have doubts and then it probably isn't. It's not about completing every quest no matter what so why try and bend the rules.
Alternately, if you wanna be strict why not use only those four original words - It would be certainly more challenging but so what this is a challenge. :)
Re: I went through my tbr books and found quite a lot with "heart" in the title. I thought about it and while it would be convenient to claim it as a healing word I just don't believe it fits the bill. And to insist that you can use heart for a transplant (the only reasoning I thought of as remotely possible) well it seems too complicated. But that's just my opinion.

Trying hard to get Atlanta Burns finished asap. It's a ..."
Well, as I said heart would be super convenient for me. I have at least 4 "heart" books in my TBR pile. I guess there's something fishy if it's not obvious and you have to explain why it is a healing word.

One more question: When fighting common monsters is it one kill a week or one kill per type per week?

I'm going to give you guys another hint that HEART will be useful in the next round of quests (February 1st) :) So... you may want to hold onto a book like that in your backpack or to-read list.
I'll probably post the new quests on the 20th of this month so you guys can see what's coming. Any quest expiring will always be given at least 2 weeks notice of the end date.

It doesn't have to be a different series though as long as you cover all the #'s, either way.

One more question: When fighting common monsters is it one kill a week or one kill per type per week?"
One kill per type per week. Each one's on it's own timer so they could even be staggered throughout the week depending on when you killed them last.

No problem. Since those things change, just put a note beside when you finish. Something like: 8 ratings on 1/8/15

Also note on the healing potion quest that it can only be done up to the max mentioned in the quest so they'll be a limited number of healing potions.
And new quests will be added at least once a month so stuff will be done with the item drops you get and you'll have ways to earn new potions.
