You poor dears!
How do you manage it?
The same here, it was 50Β°F today
and overnight only in the thirties.
We're keeping a couple of thermoses
full of piping hot tea. The less one comes
out of a warm and cozy corner, the better.

Oh no, your seedlings!
Sorry about your little Morning Glory.
How cute! I see you adopted a foundling
since the last time we chatted."

π We just wear a lot of layers. I have to remind myself that our house is still a lot warmer than people used to have...we are truly spoiled!
50 in TX! Is that autumn weather or is it officially winter now?

HERBert."

For us it's winter, in autumn it's in the 60s.
From that perspective, thank God you all
aren't living the Walden experiment.
I think I could manage the cold in a bear
costume tucked between two mattresses.

Dorothy, what clever post have you for us today?
What subject is on tap for today?

Good morning Pammy Jo! π€ How are you?"
I'm much better this morning! Not sure what happened yesterday, as my numbers were low all day. Our good neighbors, Zack & Renee, stopped in last night. They gave us a gift card to the grocery store and a beautiful centerpiece for the table. It's a lantern with cardinals inside and snow swirls all around when it's turned on. It also lights up! So beautiful! I told my mom I would rather watch that than TV! The cats love it, too!
We are having frozen fog this morning, so I plan to stay home. The roads are slick. A rainy Christmas is expected here. π So tired of dreary weather. At least I feel better today.π

THE BELLE OF AMHERST
In 1976, William Luceβs play about Emily Dickinson,Β The Belle of Amherst,Β opened on Broadway. Julie Harris, who starred in it, won a Tony for her performance.
In the play, βEmily Dickinsonβ recites the actual recipe for a black cake: βtwo pounds of flour, two pounds of sugar, two pounds of butter, nineteen eggs, five pounds of raisins, one and a half pounds of currants, one and a half pounds of citron, one half pint of brandy β I never use Fatherβs best β one half-pint of molasses, two nutmegs, five teaspoons of cloves, mace and cinnamon, and β oh, yes, two teaspoons of soda, and one and a half teaspoons of salt.β
Remember, 19th-century bakers used to do a lot of baking all at once.
Then βEmilyβ goes onΒ to tell the audienceΒ to beat the butter and sugar together, add the 19 eggs one at a time without beating. Beat again, adding the brandy alternately with the flour, soda, spices and salt, which have all been sifted together. Then add molasses. Take the raisins and citrons and gently sprinkle into the batter. Bake for three hours if you use cake pans, six or seven if you use a milk pan.

*She shivers*
You stove isn't keeping you warm enough?"
The house isn't insulated at all so it's hard to keep it warm when it's this cold. It's only been in the 50s in here all day.
