MountainKat | 31553 comments The Amazing Race Team Challenge
April 11, 2020 through June 9, 2020
8 Week Dash For the Win!

Challenge Dates:
Signups open until April 11, 2020 at 9 PM US EDT.
Remaining Teams Assigned after signups close on April 11, 2020.
First Task Assigned April 14, 2020 at 6 PM US EDT.
Challenge Ends on June 9, 2020 at Midnight US EDT, tasks will not be accepted after this time.

Each team will work together to complete tasks. Once complete, you will be given another task to complete. After the first task, teams will be on different paths with tasks randomly assigned. The same tasks may be assigned to different teams at different times, but no task will be used more than once by the same team. Each team works at their own pace and the team that completes the most tasks at the end of 8 weeks will be the winner!

After the first task is given to everyone, when a team finishes their task they will need to report their completion in the Tracking/Q&A thread. I will confirm the completion and assign their next task. New tasks will not be assigned more frequently than every other day. I will attempt to respond quickly to confirm completion and assign new tasks, but please allow up to 24 hours. If I am unavailable, another mod will assign the task.

Each teammate will need to participate in each task, but may take a pass for one task during the course of the challenge. For some tasks, no passes will be allowed. Completions posts will need to be made when finishing each book for a task, similar to the PtP and Bachelor Challenges. A player will be removed if they make no comment for 5 days after a new task is assigned or 3 days after the rest of the team completes the task (whichever is later), despite attempts to make contact.

MountainKat | 31553 comments I think most of you know each other, at least a little, but feel free to introduce yourself again. Please give any relevant information, especially time zone as that helps know when it is best to communicate. 😊

Please select a team leader to help keep track of where your team is in any given task. And as necessary guide discussions for task decisions. Any teammate can report your completions though.

PS - If you want to be known as anything other than Team 7, you are free to come up with a team name. 😉

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments Hi ladies! I'm really excited for this challenge to get started. I must admit I'm getting a little stir crazy by myself over here in LA and as much as I don't mind the alone time I need something to focus on. So I'm really looking forward to this challenge starting and getting to strategize with some fun people. Hope everyone's still safe and sound!

Being home really hasn't changed my hours much I'm still a night owl so you'll usually catch me later in the day PST. I'm trying to reactivate my BookTube channel for something to do so mostly just reading and working on video ideas at the moment. :)

Michaele | 6540 comments Hello- I think I've been on teams with most of you before - maybe not MyzanM?

I live in Utah and am also working from home. My awesome dog Rusty is helping keep me sane. Not being able to see family has been awful, but some people in my family are very high risk. So reading challenges have been a great diversion.

I'd rather not be team captain if someone else is willing - switching to online teaching this late in the semester is way more work than I expected!

message 8: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 317 comments Hi everyone!
I almost missed that this was up! Thanks for the friend request Michaele.
I’m on a different continent than the rest of you since I’m from Sweden, The land of denial...

I had a scare about a week ago and is now in home quarantine by doctors order (not Corona, but a nasty cold combined with asthma).
I still work part time though. I have an assistant in my classroom and I’m teaching via video link. It’s hard with 4th graders, but they are just wonderful. I also have my 13-year-old home with me as she is at risk with an immune deficiency. The rest of my family is still working as normal.

My work situation makes my schedule wonky And it makes my whole day wonky.

I’m currently captaining a couple of other challenges so I’d rather not do this one too, but I can co-captain if needed.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments Hi everyone - I've been on teams with all of you at some point :) I'm in Arizona and I was working from home before all this started so the only thing different is I'm trying to work from home with my kids trying to do school at home.

I'm team captain for a couple other challenges as well so I can co-captain if needed but would rather not captain another challenge right now.

message 10: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments It doesn't sound like captain is too crazy for this challenge as it looks like MKat doesn't care who does the reporting, but just wants someone who's willing to make sure everyone's on track. A point person per se. So since it looks like the rest of you are tapped at the moment, I'm willing to be that person.

So on that particular note...do we want to come up with a fun quarantine type name for our team or anything?

message 11: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6540 comments Thanks Shelby! I'm sure the others will agree that we can totally help if need be!

I'm terrible at naming things, but i"ll try to come up with some suggestions.

message 12: by Danielle Gypsy Soul (last edited Apr 07, 2020 08:54AM) (new)

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments Thanks Shelby! My team name suggestions:

Quaranqueens
Reading from Home
Flu Fighters
Panic! At the Tesco

message 13: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 317 comments Oh, I like Quaranqueens or Flue Fighters.

My suggestions were not that good:
Closed Borders
Shelter in Books
Wuhan escapists
We made it this far
Paper Hoarders

message 14: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 317 comments Thanks Shelby!
Just let us know if you need help.

message 15: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6540 comments I like Quaranqueens, made me laugh at least.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments My favorite is QuaranQueens

message 17: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments I think we're all in agreement cause I love QuaranQueens as well. Gonna let MKat know so we can get that switched. :)

message 18: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments Ladies do we want to do any preplanning of potential categories?

message 19: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6540 comments Sure! I think there is one where we all have to read a book by the same author, maybe we could start there?

message 20: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments Some options based on quick glances at everyone's shelves...aka we all have books by these authors we've read or are planning...

Sloane Kennedy
Heidi Cullinan
Lara Adrian
Annabeth Albert
Mary Calmes
Megan Derr
Lucy Lennox
Lily Morton
J.D. Robb
Anyta Sunday

Open to any other suggestions as well of course...thoughts?

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments I'd vote for Sloane Kennedy, Lily Morton, Mary Calmes, Lucy Lennox and Anyta Sunday as my top votes

Heidi Cullinan, Annabeth Albert are okay.

I'm caught up with J.D. Robb and I no longer like Lara Adrian. Not a big fan of Megan Derr either.

message 22: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 317 comments My top votes are almost the same as Danielle’s.
Sloane Kennedy, Lucy Lennox, Anyta Sunday and Mary Calmes.

I haven’t read Heidi Cullinan or Lily Morton in a while but could if the team wants to. For Annabeth Albert I have one book left in the Out of Uniform series so I could read a book by her too.
Megan Derr is a bit of hit and miss for me, but I’m willing to take my chances.

I’m not really that interested in Lara Adrian or J.D. Robb, but I will read them if that’s what the team wants.

message 23: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments I've got books planned for those top 4 as well. So I'm fine with any of them. :)

So with just Michaele still to add her thoughts looking like it's easy to narrow it down to those four.

Sloane Kennedy
Lucy Lennox
Anita Sunday
Mary Calmes

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments Looks like some info we need:

Mine is the 70's so hopefully some of you are much younger than me!

Teammates Birth Month
Mine is October

Year Joined RRRC
Mine is 2015

Teammates Hometown
Mine is Arizona

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments Some other ones we may need to make decisions on with some thoughts - what do you guys think?

Set in country outside U.S.
I find England and Australia are always easy to find

Set in Same Location
Again California and New York are always easy to find but so are a few other big cities

Profession:
Law Enforcement is really easy but so is musician

Romance Trope:
Best Friends to Lovers, Second Chance, Enemies to Lovers, Fated Mate

Item on Cover:
Would animal count? Tree, Body of Water, Mode of Transportation, Full Moon, Jewelry, Guitar, Hat

Any of those 4 authors would work for me. I think I've only read one book by Anyta Sunday, but I'd be willing to read another.

1. Each player reads a book by the same author, teams decide author - no pass for this task.

Ready, Set, GO!

message 34: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6540 comments We narrowed it down to these 4 - which one should we go with?

Sloane Kennedy
Lucy Lennox
Anita Sunday
Mary Calmes

I'd vote for Lucy Lennox, just because she has so many audiobooks, but I'm open to the others.

message 35: by Danielle Gypsy Soul (last edited Apr 13, 2020 07:48AM) (new)

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments My choice in order of preference:

Sloane Kennedy (Finding Home is 160 pgs and a #1 so I can knock it out quickly)
Anita Sunday
Lucy Lennox
Mary Calmes

However, I can find something for all of them.

message 36: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments My order of preference would be...

Anyta Sunday (I literally had one of her books planned to read next)
Sloane Kennedy
Lucy Lennox
Mary Calmes

MyzanM | 317 comments I'm ok with all of them and have books on hand for all of them.
