[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 524 comments I’ve been a member of Goodreads since 2014, I believe. But this account was created in 2018, so I would think that’s the year we’d have to go with for me. If I had a preference, I’d rather go with Leslie’s join date of 2019 for publication year. But could do any of them.

As far as hometowns, mine would be Charlotte, North Carolina. Which may be a decent option to go for. Columbus may be better.

Anna lives in Louisville, Kentucky, which I know from experience doesn’t have many books written about it. But I can’t remember where she moved from. Indiana, maybe? (Not sure if the town you live in &/or the town you were born in could both be considered a ‘hometown’. I would think so, but you never know.)

Friends to lovers or enemies to lovers are good ones for the trope & I would be down for either of those!

Leslie, I love the Best Book Boyfriends list idea! That one has a great variety of genres & options.

OOoo...I could do police officer too. Honestly, whatever you all want as long as it's not something like alien hunter or cat wrangler. LOL

[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 524 comments “Insta Love” would be an easy one to go for for the romance trope, too. Or “love triangles”.

I bet Charlotte has just as much if not more than Columbus!

I love me some love triangles! LOL! Insta-love isn't my favorite, but that doesn't stop me from reading them all the time. 😏😂

[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 524 comments I don’t really ‘like’ any of them. But if I had to pick a preference, I’d probably go with friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, or love triangles. BUT as I always say, I could find something for any of them. I am pretty easy to please & usually have no issues getting copies of books I need.

Okay - so... I found something on each list that I’d be okay with reading, but I honestly feel like the Columbus option is better. I personally like those choices more. :p

I just read a book that was set in Columbus for Pass the Parcel this week. It is so weird but awesome to read about the characters driving down the same roads you drive almost daily.

bamaace83 | 1292 comments I'm dying laughing on the cat wrangler book. I grew up in the country outside Birmingham Alabama so I would say let's go with Columbus or Charlotte. I'm good with either. I'm good with any type of profession. I like the idea of reading Colleen Hoover. There are several of her books that I need to work through. Let's see series: James Patterson's Alex Cross series is always a good one to find a book on if y'all like those psychological thrillers. Also, Stuart Woods is another good author for these as is Karin Slaughter. I'm slowly working my way through Maya Banks KGI Series and I like it. I'm good with enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, etc. I joined in 2013 so if y'all want to go back that far then I'm open to it. I took a couple slow years there with moving and switching jobs and life but I've been fairly active the last year or so. I have access to a good variety of books. I have access to four different library accounts since I live on the Indiana side of Louisville and I have kindle unlimited and audible. I mean there could be a chance that I have a slight reading addiction...just slight.

I haven't started the Alex Cross or the KGI series, but I want to read both.

On a sort of unrelated topic...I was in Louisville last summer for the first time. We went to the bat museum and LOVED it :) We were in Nashville for CMA Fest and couldn't resist the side trip.

message 71: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1292 comments I really like the bat museum. I always recommend people to go visit there if they are in town. I usually also recommend going to Churchill Downs museum also because just seeing the track where the Derby is held is cool. I'm interested to see how Derby works this year in September! I haven't ever been to the CMA Fest. I'm sure that I would really like it but my husband hates country music so I would definitely have to find a friend but that's on my list to do sometime.

My husband is not a country music fan at all, but it was the last trip that we took our adult (young) daughters on because they are huge country music fans/long time softball players and their lives are starting to get too busy to travel with us. He said he would be happy just being with us. We caught him a couple of times tapping his toe, but he continues to deny it, saying it was just a muscle spasm. In the end he did like Chris Janson and even took me to see him later last summer down in Washington State! We absolutely loved it though so hopefully you can find a friend to go with you.

message 73: by [deleted user] (new)

I've lived in both Nashville and Birmingham so you girls are bringing back memories for me tonight. My son was actually born in Nashville.

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh my lovelies, I am not a Maya Banks fan. I've DNF'd everything I've tried to read by her. I will push through if everyone loves the KGI series though.

I've never read James Patterson. I think I'm the only person on the planet. So I'm willing to give him a go if he has a series that's good. I also haven't read Karin Slaughter, but her books always catch my eye and I've been meaning to give her a shot.

Should I make an "official" list of the ones we decide/need to decide and put it in Message 7 with the tracking and other important stuff so we don't have to go searching through our babble weeks from now when one of these is called?

message 75: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1292 comments That sounds like a fun Nashville trip. I did get him to go to Carrie Underwood with me because he said she wasn't too country for him. Not sure what that means but okay. I go to a lot of heavy metal/rock concerts with him so I'll ask for a return favor at some point. Do y'all watch college softball also? I love watching softball.

That's fun! I know Birmingham very very well. I grew up in the Jasper area right up the road on the lake. I've been to Nashville several times and we stop there sometimes on and off on the way home to Alabama.

Ewww, okay I say scratch Maya Banks then. I will say that the KGI series is not the same dominant alpha male type books as some of hers but I also understand she's not for everyone. You definitely gotta read at least one James Patterson, just to give it a go. I like Karin Slaughter but I think I like her Grant County series a little better than her Will Trent series. That sounds good.

message 76: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 10, 2020 06:10PM) (new)

I am definitely willing to try the KGI series if the rest of you want it. I don't mind the alphas, and its been a while so I'm not 100% sure why she wasn't doing it for me. For some reason I feel like it was a lack of a good plot line to go along with the non-stop sex. hahaha! I could be thinking of another author though.

My youngest daughter played college softball so we watched it a lot for awhile. She played in Connecticut ... she wanted to try living on the East Coast. We used to go to Florida for their Spring break games every year. She's came back to BC for Med School and is now moving back east to Ontario for her Residency. It was nice to have her close(ish) for the last few years.

Cyndee - Listing what we've agreed on in one post is a great idea. We don't have to do Maya as a series...I'm sure there will be other tasks when I can try her. I definitely recommend James Patterson...if you want to try a quick read to see what you think, he has some hotshot books ... like 113 Minutes. He has some great romance genre and lots of thriller.

Katy Regnery has a Modern Fairytale Series that I want to read more of. There are 8 books and can be read as stand-alone so you don't have to go in order. I read the first one The Vixen and the Vet and loved it. This series were all written as fundraiser for various charities. Vixen and the Vet was for Operation Mend.

Vixen and the Vet was a really good book! That series is a great suggestion because they aren't related at all other than they're retellings of fairy tales! Good recommendation!! Anna & Frankie, check them out and see what you think. :)

message 79: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1292 comments Lol, nope that sounds about right for some of her books. That's why I liked the KGI because it added a family/military storyline and didn't focus on the no stop sex so much, lol. I'm good with the other authors also. I would say the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs for paranormal but the problem is I literally read the entire series in the past year because I like it so much. The same with Rebecca Zanetti's Dark Protectors. I read all of those also because they were really good. I haven't read a couple of the novellas though in that series.

message 80: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1292 comments Ohhh, that series looks good! We could try that one. Plus, it's something totally outside the box which I'm always open for. That sounds like fun experiences with college football. We live four and seven hours away from family and our parents are always telling us that they wish we were a little closer but I like that we can get home in the day and not have to fly but also have our own lifestyle going on here. We do call all the time and before this pandemic we would go home every couple of months.

Leslie, going through these tasks to decide early was a GREAT idea!! There were more than I had originally thought. I started the master list in message 7, but I used Kat's original list and there are a few more we might need to look at, and a couple that are kind of similar. I left some of the ones we've already discussed as TBD just because I want to verify we all agree before posting them.

Here are the ones that are similar to some we've already decided:

**Similar to task #1: Colleen Hoover
53. Each teammate reads a different book by the same author, no pass for this task.

61. Read a minimum of 1500 pages in books by the same author, teams decide author.

Should we use James Patterson for one of those? We've been throwing his name around a lot

___

**Similar to task #9, subgenre: TBD (but suspense probably??)
54. Read a minimum of 1200 pages in books of the same sub-genre, but by different authors.
___

**Similar to task #51, year: TBD
58. Read a minimum of 750 pages in books published in any one year prior to 2018, team picks the year. Should we make it easy and just say 2017? And do 2018 for task #51?
~~this is also similar to task #73, where we're using the year Leslie joined GR (2019) as the publication year.

___

And here are the tasks we haven't voted at all yet:

55. Pick another team and each member reads one book that was read by a member for this challenge. No pass for this task. Just need to choose another team, but we all have to use the same one. We may want to wait on this one since it'd be a book they've read for this challenge, so we have a better idea what we're getting ourselves into. LOL!

59. Read 4 books published in the decade of a teammate's birth, team decides which teammate. - I was born in the 1970s. I think we were each born in a different decade, so this could be an interesting decision. I vote Frankie in the 90s personally. LOL!

60. Read 6 books set on a beach or in the mountains, teams decide which. My vote would be beach but I don't feel too strongly either way.

63. Read over 1000 pages in books that start with the same letter (no articles), teams decide letter.

67. Read 6 books with a specific item on the cover, team selects item.

---
There is also this task: 62. Read 6 books published in a teammates' birth month, you may not use your own month. So we'll need to know each other's birth months for that one. Mine is February. :)

message 82: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 1292 comments Yes, such a good idea to look at these ahead of time. Here are my thoughts on those.

53. Each teammate reads a different book by the same author, no pass for this task.

61. Read a minimum of 1500 pages in books by the same author, teams decide author.

So if it's minimum 1500 and there's 4 of us, we are going to need a solid 350 page-ish author to make this happen. I know that sometimes given real life situations it's so hard to get a big book read or listened to. I think James Patterson may be a good idea for this one because he has longer books with Alex Cross but you could always go to his middle school series which is a little shorter page count if one of us has a crappy real life week that week. Given today's world, that could happen to any or all of us.

54. Read a minimum of 1200 pages in books of the same sub-genre, but by different authors.

Suspense sounds good to me!

58. Read a minimum of 750 pages in books published in any one year prior to 2018, team picks the year. Should we make it easy and just say 2017? And do 2018 for task #51?
~~this is also similar to task #73, where we're using the year Leslie joined GR (2019) as the publication year.

I like it.

55. Pick another team and each member reads one book that was read by a member for this challenge. No pass for this task. Just need to choose another team, but we all have to use the same one.

I say let's see what some of them are reading and decide because I don't want to pick in advance and get stuck with a team that only reads some random genre that we have all agreed that we have to struggle through.

59. Read 4 books published in the decade of a teammate's birth, team decides which teammate.

I was born in 1983 so I'm an 80's kid over here.

60. Read 6 books set on a beach or in the mountains, teams decide which.

I have no preference either way on this one.

63. Read over 1000 pages in books that start with the same letter (no articles), teams decide letter.

I would probably lean towards one of those popular wheel of fortune letters here. Maybe R or S?

67. Read 6 books with a specific item on the cover, team selects item.

Hmmmm, maybe fire or a dress? I think sometimes those can be pretty easy to find.

62. Read 6 books published in a teammates' birth month, you may not use your own month.

I'm a March baby over here.

Leslie Cyndee wrote: "Leslie, going through these tasks to decide early was a GREAT idea!! There were more than I had originally thought. I started the master list in message 7, but I used Kat's original list and there ..."

I wonder if she will try to not give tasks that are too similar to a team...so we wouldn't get both #1 and #53 If that's the case, we could use Colleen Hoover for either of those and James Patterson for 61.

I think #73 is when you joined RRRC, which for me was 2019. I had originally joinged GR back in 2007 but then didn't really do anything with it until last year when I discovered challenges!

#55 - I agree we'll need to wait and see what teams are reading.
#59 - we should go with whoever is the youngest and I'll guarantee it isn't me.
#60 - I would definitely vote beach - more options I think.
#63 - As long as we stay away from weird letters like X, I should be good. I started looking and was like I have a lot of books that start with "A", but then there were a lot of "B"'s too...
#67 - just throwing so me ideas out there ... hearts? children? dog? sporting equipment? butterfly? Jewelry?
#62 - My birthday is in July

message 84: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 10, 2020 07:26PM) (new)

I think you're right about #1 and 53. We can use Colleen for whichever of those comes up first and just choose another if/when necessary.

Going with the youngest for #59 gets my vote too. Frankie is our young pup. 😘

67 is tough because there are just so many options! There's everything Leslie listed and then houses, weapons, flowers, trees,..

You're right about #73...my bad!

message 85: by [deleted user] (new)

I was thinking... I’d also be down to read Amy Harmon if the other ladies would be interested. I know you love her, Cyndee, & I’ve been wanting to read her stuff. Eh - wouldn’t be my first choice, with the romance & war/military tags. But I am not completely opposed. :]

[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 524 comments I could literally do ANY of these options you guys mentioned & would be okay with any of them!

I like the suspense idea for the sub genre task.

But my personal preference for the decade of birth would be mine, the 90’s! (I’m the youngin’ over here! The 90’s kid. Woo!)

I also vote beach over mountains for task #60.

No XYZ or harder vowels like E, I, O, U for task #63 & I’ll be good. I could handle A, I think, though. (S & R are pretty popular letters, too.)

I was born in July. So we have February, July, & March for that task. (I wonder how that would work with Leslie & I both having July birthdays? It says we can’t read for our own month, but could I read for Leslie’s even though it’s the same as mine? Trying to cheat the system here. LOL!)

For task #67... wonder if we could do PERSON as our specific item? That would definitely be an easy one. Or SHIRT? Like on a person. Or some specific body part that can be seen on a person, like an eye, arm, hand, etc. LOL. The tree or flower idea is an easy one, too.

Only the first one is military. Each book in the series is more a modern retelling of a fairy tale, so each one is quite different.

The Vixen and the Vet (Beauty & the Beast)
Never Let You Go (Hansel & Gretel)
Ginger's Heart (Little Red Riding Hood)
Dark Sexy Knight (Camelot)
Don't Speak (The Little Mermaid)
Sheer Heaven (Rapunzel)
Fragments of Ash (Cinderella)
Swan Song (The Ugly Duckling)
