This is something we haven't experienced before, at least not on this scale, and it will take time for governments to work through the options. Just have to trust that they will have the gumption to make hard decisions. That, and keeping ourselves safe. It makes me sad to hear comments from our friends on YLTO who are suffering so much.

Thinking of you Margot. I can't imaging being stuck in a bedroom for weeks. It would feel like jail.

Rob's company has started furloughing their staff. Unfortunately, Rob started after the cutoff date and so cannot be furloughed. So now he has to go in to work more to do the 'essential work' so that he keeps getting paid. And they'll be more staff in than there has been of late due to there being others who fall between the gaps of the government regulations. Trying not to get annoyed. It's not his employer's fault. And there's no changing it. But I don't like that he'll be out more. Of course, that might all change as there was a big Covid19 meeting today about lockdown so who knows what will happen.

When I called the pharmacy, I learned that my doctor only prescribed 1 month for each prescription. Apparently, the government is restricting prescriptions to 1 month. Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose? Aren't we supposed to be staying at home and staying out of the stores? Does this new policy support that? I could have picked up 6 months today and not been back in the store. Alberta isn't supposed to peak until mid-May, which means I'll need to repeat this process during the peak of the virus.
Costco isn't offering curbside pickup, in fact the person I talked to didn't even know what that was. Seriously?? They suggested a local pick up and delivery company. When I called them, they said they don't do pickups at Costco because it's too long of a wait in the lineups.
The girl said that I can bypass the line by going to the exit and telling them that I need the pharmacy and they will escort me in. I guess I'll try that, and if that doesn't work, I'll be in the lineup. In pain.

I shouldn't really complain about that date. I read a news article this morning in the AP about our governor (Northam/Virginia). He is the only governor in the states who is a doctor, so when things started to look dicey he was one of the first to close schools and has ordered the longest state stay-put order. They believe that because schools closed so early it may have contributed to our lower numbers. He was also ordering medical supplies earlier than most. Because of this we are actually doing ok as a state and have flattened the curve to help the hospitals. We still have thousands with the virus, but it is actually lower than other states per capita.
Now off to My Zoom Thirsty Thursday Happy Hour. Be Well everyone.

I feel like some of the policies they've put in place make it more difficult to follow the guidelines. For example, my regular grocery store is constantly empty of several products. They have instilled a policy where you can only buy two of many items in order to combat the hoarding and empty shelves. Unfortunately, if you can only buy two of some things and can't find any of others, you would end up going to the grocery store more frequently than normal instead of less. I also don't understand how the shelves are still so empty if they are limiting people on how much they can buy. Where is it all going?
I ended up having to do my shopping two days in a row and going to a different store the second day. I was able to get what I needed there, so I'll be going there first next time and hopefully will only need to make one trip.

I'm so glad I didn't have to stand in the lineup. I'm sure people must have been there for over an hour.
Masks are slow catching on here. I only saw one person in the store wearing one. I thought there would be more.

Ok enough with that.
Basically I'm not convinced there's more at play here and the situation isn't being used to cover up other things. For instance look at how many issues people were bickering over before now you've probably forgotten a lot of the things that were making headlines.
At the same time people are getting sick. I know people who have been sick. People are dying.
I'm of the belief that of all the govt the CDC is the most trustworthy. Idk why I just feel that way. I feel like CDC recommendations need to be taken serious.
I guess what I'm saying is I don't believe the pandemic is a hoax but I also don't believe to a certain extent we are being manipulated. The question is for what purpose what would the end game be for it all? I most certainly don't know. So for now we take the social distancing very serious and follow the recommendation. You're gonna look pretty stupid if you've been on some full blown conspiracy theory and been completely careless and next week you're in need of a ventilator to find out they don't have one for you.
At the same time I've read books and when it comes to a coronavirus outbreak I mean this is it from the sickness right through to the actions being taken. There's no reason not to believe it. With global travel and people and packages shipped all over the world in hours and days honestly it's amazing we don't have more widespread pandemics more frequently

And by no means am I saying anyone deserves to be sick or die. I don't wish that on anyone at all. I guess that's just trying to find some positives from the situation.

Question: Is anybody wearing a mask when they go for walks in their neighborhood?

What's funny is when it first started I said the Russians were to blame. After all they're to blame for everything these days right. I was reading a book about pandemics and I can't remember what it was now but there was a virus let loose years ago by a disgruntled Russian scientist. Russia was experimenting on building a super virus to use in warfare. They aren't the only ones several countries do the same. Anyway a scientist mad that his co-workers didn't give him enough credit got mad and contaminated some people for revenge.
The CDC was able to contain it before it got out of hand. Also the disgruntled scientist thing has happened a few times in the past but CDC has handled it quickly
Oh the anthrax in the early 2000's was believed to be a disgruntled scientist. The court never finished the trial on him because he committed suicide before it was over. Which many feel was an act based on guilt and fear he was going to be seen guilty.

You over reacted and destroyed the economy the numbers were no where near what you said sick and deaths would be
The other side will say yeah because of isolation and all the steps we implemented we prevented this from being so bad
I side with the 2nd side only because I have a whole regimine for every cow that freshens. People ask why do you spend all that money when you don't have problems with fresh cows . Um. I hope my act of prevention is why I don't have problems.
It's the old chicken or the egg arguments l

I think you are incredibly strong to be able to do the things you do, and to provide so much fun and distraction to all of us (that goes for all the Mods). If you need to cry, that's fine. Just remember we are all here for you, and for each other, to lean on.

Oh, yeah. I am sure we have months, if no years, of discussions, interviews, shows, books, movies, series, etc. about this pandemic and all the different theories and point of views... Exhausting.

Thank you for those words, Margo. That means a lot.
Our book club got together last night on Zoom and had some great laughs. We've decided that we'll go ahead with our May meeting via Zoom. We'll each bring to our own table our drink of choice and appie of choice and eat, drink and be merry while we chat.

I watched the head of W.H.O. discuss the "over-reaction" thing. He said that it will seem like we are over-reacting. If we do this right, we will think we over-reacted when it's over. If we didn't do it right, we will think we didn't do enough.
How is it that any credible organization or witness these days is vilified so badly by the opposing side that they are no longer deemed credible? It doesn't matter what argument you put out, it's torn down by, "They aren't a credible source."

I know this is or will happen. For what purpose or what end I have no idea. But we constantly see the experts called in and then the other side brings someone in to knock them down and then sides are made and the people are divided and ultimately that's what the powers that be need is for us to have division. They can't control us if we all United and that scares them

I agree with Margo's comments, Janice. I'm so sorry that you have had the year you have, and we truly appreciate all you do for us all and love having you and your cheeky humour around :D Hope things turn around soon *hugs*

That is a long way, Margo.
Our lockdown in Pennsylvania is still until April 30th, but since yesterday it is official that schools will remain closed the rest of the scholar year. So, this is my new life. :)

My "craft" group had a zoom last night, and after a few people i don't know very well left, Lexx jumped in as did my brother's interjections through his fiance's mic and a couple of other partners. I think we hung up at 1am, I drank far too much just as I was so distracted and happy talking to people, and ended up very ill.
So glad we have all this technology. Even 5 years ago we would have been stuffed.

Everything so doom and gloom. Some of us have to step up and make fools of ourselves to lighten the mood out there

Oh that's hard, Margo. I'm working from home until July, so we can be buddies!! Make sure you hang out in the garden today. I saw the news said the weather was around 23 and sunny in your neck of woods (I watch the multicultural tv channel news here as they talk about the rest of the world, including the weather on all continents).

Stupid copyrights

LOL you'll have to upload it somewhere for us to access a link. Depending on your privacy settings on FB, you could just link us that. If you have good privacy settings, you can just make that post public and not your profile, and link the link. If you would like to keep your personal private facebook personal and private, you'll have to upload it to something like YouTube or Vine and link us that link I am afraid.
I agree though, we just all need a laugh, and i am very much appreciating anyone providing us with one.

Lexx's family are linking each other challenges (particularly the kids who are between 27 and 9) on Whats App. I told them to up the bar to this: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=260...
Oh and if you don't mind swearing, like a lot of swearing, this guy is giving the most Aussie cooking classes online telling people they are are idiots for buying ready made food when it's so easy to make. I spent a lot of time laughing at these today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIwhd...
Remember. LOTS of swearing.

I never thought I'd see such things in the civalized world in 2020.

They are talking the end of May here. We're not expected to peak until mid-May.

I laughed so hard at the dog video. Hilarious! And the cooking lesson taught me something too. (view spoiler)
Thanks for posting these, Rus!

Lol!

Some people are wearing masks here but we've not been told to or recommended to. Just for frontline workers. If they can get them

We have ro wait until next week to find out about lockdown. Likely to be an extension. It was supposed to end monday. Apparently we have 2 weeks until the peak?!?!

There is a show called the walking dead. It involves zombies created by a virus. The show ratings are slipping. He is convinced that the show runners created the pandemic as a stunt to boost ratings. It just got out of hand .LOL
I think he may have a future as science fiction writer.

I almost fell off my chair laughing at the swearing cook but he had some good points. LOL!!!

On facemasks. You don't need N95. They only need to be able to prevent spit basically from passing. Everyone is sewing masks up now
CDC recommendation is flannel against your skin and cloth on outside . My wife prefers 4 straps so she can tie it around her neck to hang and then tie around her head when she wants it in use
Many people are seeing rectangular masks with a loop on each end. Usually elastic. Then it covers your mouth and nose and the loops go around each ear to hold it
