Sarah | 18549 comments I really don't understand the coughing, licking and spitting stuff. To scare people. It has been made an offence here now. Apparently a lot of nhs staff were being subjected to it.

I really hope that it's just asthma/allergies Margo. I am in the same situation. I'm almost certain it's just the stress affecting my asthma. I have no temperature still. I tried ringing my doctor and couldn't get through. I'm not going to bother unless i get a temperature now or feel unwell. I will keep my fingers crossed for you though Margo.

Janice (jamasc) | 59847 comments I hope you don't have the virus, Margo!

I read an article that a woman walked into a small grocery store and coughed all over the fresh produce and meat. The grocery had to throw out about $30,000 USD of produce. Apparently, she's known by the police in the community and is undergoing psychiatric assessment as a result. Even if she doesn't have the virus, she should be charged.

Jannene | 3124 comments Today our office (total of 50ish full time employees) did a Zoom “happy hour”. Only about 15 of us showed up which is about 30% which isn’t that bad. Two of us were supervisors. Apparently the other ones felt it was not good as supervisors to join. What? I didn’t get the memo. In fact, it’s after hours and you are in your homes. Seriously, what is unprofessional about it but whatever. We talked about everything and had videos on so we could “see” each other. It was fun. We have it reoccurring for the next three weeks. You can tell that people are already getting stir crazy and we just started this “mandatory” thing on Tuesday.

Same here, we went from 2,200 to 2,800 in a day! From 45 deaths to 60 in a day.

Our region director is sending emails everyday to check on us and wants us to do a virtual walking on Saturday to lift our spirits up. Right now is not the time to think about being supervisors, directors, it's about trying to bring some positive in a scary uncertain future.

message 210: by Dominique (new)

Dominique | 1126 comments We have 1700 and 8 deaths.
Some people who just came back from vacation actually went to a supermarket, they were told to leave. The owner threw away the food they had in their carts. He called the store in front of him to warn him about them. They showed up and were turned away. They actually said they didn't think that they had to go home and isolate themselves right away.
Because of people like them, they will be more tough on rules pretty soon.

That's hell! The libraries are also closed, but there's one bookstore open. Maybe you can switch to e-ebooks or audio?

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments My fingers are crossed for you, Margo.
That's insane what people are doing! We've got also people spitting, coughing...even to police officers.
Belgium is planning on testing 10000 people a day insteed of the 2000 now. We've got now 200 deaths. Today they are re - evaluating the precoutions. I hope school can re - open after holiday or alternative lessons. The longer, the more damage to what children need to learn. Also, parents are breaking under the stress from working at home and taking care of the children. Everything puts such a burden on the people. I kow it's for the greater good, but still...
The US is now higher in death and infected toll than China, Spain and Italy.
Yesterday my husband got a call that his brother got infected 2 weeks ago and it's really bad. He's starting now to get a little bit better. The strange thing is that his wife, is a teacher at my son's school, and also the school is closed, ,she is forced to go. I thought she and their children should stay quaraintained.

message 214: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I think they want to start testing more here too. Apparently there were issues with the pharmaceutical company that makes the test, but they have no put the recipe online and everyone can now create the stuff that's needed.

Worries here now are for all people who were scheduled for surgeries that are not emergencies, as these are almost all cancelled to make room for treatment of corona patients. However, these people are not in acute need of help, but they DO need help on the short term. Experts expect that after corona there will be many deaths among non-corona people who didn't get the correct treatment when they needed it.

message 215: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments On to some better news!

At work, everyone will receive a €250 bonus (€125 after taxes) in August. This is intened to improve your 'home office', so that you can for example buy a bigger screen, a keyboard, or headphones. We all work on relatively small laptops.

Someone in my team said he felt kind of guilty accepting this, as we are all working from home, can even work outside in the sun, while in health care the pressure is so high. He suggested that we (the people not needing the money to improve their home office or decrease work stress, as some colleagues do get pretty stressed, especially with kids at home) turn this into a gift for ICU workers in one of the local hospitals. I love that idea! I was already wondering if I could refuse the bonus, but I like turning it into a gift much more.

message 216: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments That's interesting if you can make your own, but I wonder how accurate this will be.
I follow you on the non - emergencies. Cancer checks are postponed as they can wait 2 months, because cancer does not evolve fast....I find that ridiculous.
The other brother (who hasn't corona) from my husband needs an operation on his heart, because his aorta can burst any moment. Normally he had his operation on 2nd April, but it go cancelled, because it isn't an emergency. I mean, if his vain burst, he's dead...I don't know the logic about that.

message 217: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments I've just read that we have our first case of someone giving it his cat! I also heard of a dog getting infected. The cat was living together with the sick person, but it's a stand alone case.

Oh yes, not everyone. Sorry, I put it wrong. But pharmacies can often make their own medicines if they have the recipe. So they can do this now with corona-tests too. So it will be accurate :)

These are exactly the examples I also read on the news.. I mean, if your vain is not bursting right now, but it could at any moment, you're not an emergency?!

Ah, that makes it accurate, because they've got the knowledge.

Yes, I don't understand the decisions of the doctors. Everything needs to be put aside for corona. I get that we're living in dangerous times now, but there are also other emergencies.

Soooo pleased i got a last minute cancellation for mine back in january otherwise mine would havenbeen cancelled. i'm surprised your brother in law's famiky are still our and about Saar when he has virus. I thought they had to self isolate too.

message 225: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments So Boris Johnson and our health minister have tested positive for coronvirus. Boris is still running the country though as he has mild symtoms.

Last night, at 8pm, everyone in the uk clapped and cheered for the nhs workers. We tooted our boat horn. The mmarina near us were all doing the same. It was loud. It was emotional.

message 226: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments I had a phone call today. I was on a medication several years ago for my Lupus. I stopped it and am using something different. It is now one of the drugs they are using to treat the virus. It is also used to treat malaria. I had to stop it because it gave me weird dreams. They were very colorful and would wake me up laughing.

The phone call was to see if I could donate any of my meds to a friend. First of all this person is not sick. He is just concerned he may get sick. He is not in a job that requires he go to work. He has not left his house since this started, Secondly they are prescription. Thirdly who keeps pills they haven't take for years.

This made me really worry .If a man who is usually very level headed is acting like this what is happening to others. This cant be good for peoples mental health

message 227: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments The drug is completly unproven to help with. Coronavirus. Same goes for the other ones Trump has stated. But now, shortages of these drugs are occuring because people are taking them thinkinng they will protect them and those who need the drugs for what they were intended for cannot get hold of them. Crazy. I get that people are anxiou, but still. Sorry you had to experience that Renee with your friend. Yes even thosee eho. Are generally level headed are suffering too.

message 231: by Sarah (new)

I know...We don't understand it too.

message 233: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments It's concerning that people are taking meds that are not for them. And about mental health: this will have a huge impact after it: 'post corona stress' or something. The experts, psychologists,...are warning that in the coming weeks child abuse, domestic violence...will be rising.
Also, the measurements are extended here for 2 weeks. After that, maybe another 2. For the moment, it's stabilising here. Fingers crossed.

Travis, besides the circumstances in the US, you've made me laugh.

message 234: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2647 comments Well, the optimism here was very short. The curve is rising again, but my heart goed out to the US.

message 235: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I just saw that a 101 year old man who had been hospitalised in Italy with the virus has recovered and been released from hospital. It made me smile to read this. Also the supermarkets here are delivering fresh fruit and veg to hospitals for nhs workers as they aren't able to shop as regularly.

I got tested today and it was like "FREEDOM", I was so tempted just to keep driving when I got out. I was very impressed with the efficiency of the drive-through centre. I should hear within 5 days so am looking to be released by Friday.

Jayme | 4493 comments Love Our Government. At first they said that we didn't need to wear masks - only if we were sick. Now they are saying everyone should wear them because you don't know if you are asymptomatic and could spread the virus. Only problem with that is that healthcare workers can't even get masks right now. Deep Breaths

Jannene | 3124 comments Travis wrote: "I don't think the US understands flattening the curve. More like we'll show you how to spike a graph"

I agree. Michigan keeps raising by about 800 a day. Our governor said she isn’t prepared to extend until 4/30 yet but she has another press conference tomorrow. We have 259 deaths which is third in the country, yesterday we were fourth. This is pretty unnerving.

I told a coworker on the phone today when I go to get groceries which I haven’t done in over a week on the way there and home I feel like my throat is sore. I know I’m psyching myself into it but I’m on verge of panicking just going to the store.

My employees are acting weird. One is being down right snippy in emails and to me in our group Teams chat because I’m asking them daily what is their goal/s of the day. Do they need anything for support to help them be productive and for wellness. She didn’t want to do it in front of the group while the others were okay with it. I told them I have to do the same thing with my supervisor daily. Another one is concerned about a reclassification that I started before this stuff went down. I reminded her that our company is worried about the future and a lot of us don’t know if we will have jobs in the future. I think it put it in perspective for her. I keep reminding myself that there is a lot of stress out there and we already were having stress because they said we had to layoff people before this went down. It just isn’t easy being a supervisor now (it was challenging before).

message 247: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments For the last few days, our number of deaths has risen dramatically. In the past 24 hours we had 563 deaths! Spain had around 850. I think we're heading that way. So scary. On the boat, we're pretty safe. But on the days Rob has to go to work (1 day per week) or go shopping, i get anxious. That's how we'd get it.

message 248: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19123 comments I understand that, Sarah. Craig is still going into work part time and it makes me anxious too. We have a stay-at-home order here, but I will be going out to run errands tomorrow. As far as the risk goes, I wish we didn't have to go out at all.

Craig is driving to pick up our grandson over the weekend. He will have to drive about 14 hours to him on Saturday, spend the night at my daughter's house, then 14 hours back with him on Sunday. It's going to be a very long couple of days.

message 249: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments We have lockdown too. For another week and a half although I suspect it will be extended and also harsher. The police are stopping people here and there are road blocks. My friends have been stopped a couple of times. We would not be allowed to do that journey that Craig has to do here. It's really interesting how all the countries are responding differently. I guess in the US, you aso have different responses among states.
