Monica St. Dennis (omgitsmonica) | 7 comments I think I'm going to go with timing, for this. I don't really feel guilty about my choice of books, but sometimes I feel guilty that I'm reading when I should be studying...

message 52: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Byrne (booksandcatsandbooksandcats) I'm going to be rereading Tithe by Holly Black for this one. When I was about 13 my friend gave me that book as a birthday present and I refused to read it because I knew she'd forgotten and just rewrapped something from the house. I gave it a chance during the summer holidays and it turned out to be the book that got me back into reading. So it's my guilty pleasure because I still feel guilty for ever doubting her. :)

Niveditha (neetu_30) | 2 comments Dangerous Boys by Abigail Haas. It is a young adult psychological thriller and I really enjoyed it.

message 54: by Britany (last edited Feb 10, 2015 08:29PM) (new)

Britany Completed:
Finished The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy, #3) by Deborah Harkness by Deborah Harkness-- 3 Stars!

Third and final installment in the series. Nice way to tie up all the loose ends, and my favorite of the three...

message 55: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Adrienne (nicoleintrovert) | 9 comments I may read some Bukowski for this one. Nothing like being a "Bad Feminist" to summon the guilt bubble.

message 56: by Trinity (new)

Trinity (snappingturtle) | 9 comments Wasn't sure where to go with this, because my guilt about reading what I want to read is pretty low. But then the Goodreads 100 Top Romances list came to my rescue. I've read 6 of them, but Wallbanger grabbed my attention as a to-read, and the flash of guilt when I hit the button decided it. :)

message 57: by Miss Jones (new)

Miss Jones | 26 comments For this challenge I am going to read Fifty Shades of Grey. I'm mainly reading it to see what the hype is all about. And based on the reviews I've read, it seems to qualify as a guilty pleasure. (Well at least to me it does.)

message 58: by Diane (new)

Diane | 19 comments For my "guilty pleasure," I went with a book from my TBR stack, Defending Jacob. It was a quick read and an engaging story, even if I figured out what the twist was going to be before the end.

message 59: by Ramona (new)

Ramona Mead (ramonamead) I also agree that one shouldn't feel guilty about any reading choices but I think I'm going to go with The Sookie Stackhouse Companion for this category. I flew through the majority of the series last year when I was ill for a few months and now that True Blood is over I've been craving more stories with these characters!

message 60: by Ellie (new)

Ellie M (elliemcc11) I've read Wifey by Judy Blume for this. Like others have said I don't feel guilt over what I read but I remember as an early teen reading Forever and feeling a certain guilt that I shouldn't be reading this. Looking back I know I should have and there was nothing wrong with it but it was more risque than usual reads. So I've revisited my past with what is really quite an easy, dare I say slightly trashy, read. It is an interesting portrait of life for women in the 60s and 70s though.

Dy (dynila) Srividya wrote: "Not exactly a guilty pleasure, but an author whom I had decided not to read anymore due to a previous disappointed read .... just finished Archangel’s Shadows by Nalini Singh.[book:Archangel's Shad..."

Heh. This was my guilty pleasure book, too. I like her Angels series, preposterous as it is. I made it through one Psy book and gave up it was so thin and painful. Finished this a week ago or so.

message 62: by Brianna Graham (new)

Brianna Graham I finished up A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeleine L'Engle a few days ago and enjoyed it as much as I have enjoyed the others of hers. Overall, I do not think of it so much as a guilty pleasure as I do a comfort read.

message 63: by Mark (last edited Mar 04, 2015 07:56PM) (new)

Mark (themangus) | 42 comments I'm going to read Personal Lee Child, Personal for this.

Jack Reacher books, I keep reading, but never love (always 2/3 stars) and never recommend them to anyone - but keep on going back in to read more.

message 64: by Brandy (new)

Brandy | 5 comments I'm a historical fiction junkie and the only reason I actually picked up book two of the All Soul's Trilogy is because the characters were going back in time to the sixteenth century.

Shadow of Night

message 65: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading "The Longest Ride" - I've avoided Sparks for a long time (ever since I became aware of his work during the peak popularity of the film- The Notebook) but I wanted to read it because Clint Eastwood's hot son is in the film version coming out next month. So far the book is terrible, but the cliches and the mediocre writing makes me laugh and I am definitely going to see the film.

message 66: by Mary Sue (new)

Mary Sue | 61 comments I read Cold Cold Heart by Tami Hoag by Tami Hoag - suspenseful, kept me guessing - I enjoyed it!

message 67: by Pat (new)

Pat Bryan | 21 comments Loved it,too Mary Sue.Will read some more of her's....

message 68: by Robin P (new)

Robin P I'm reading Sorcery & Cecelia: or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot, a mix of Regency romance and magic. Very lightweight but fun, especially since I went to college with one of the co-authors.

message 69: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Showalter (sammisho) | 37 comments I just finished Heaven, Texas. All pleasure, no guilt. I don't like calling anything a guilty pleasure when it comes to reading, but as my friend says, any book with a hero named Bobby Tom is probably a safe bet for this task.

message 70: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Showalter (sammisho) | 37 comments Keeks wrote: "I tend to refer to chick lit as guilty pleasures because I really hate the term chick lit. If someone comes up with a better term I'll call it that. I'm either going to read Acting Up by Melissa Na..."

Just recently been introduced to Susan Elizabeth Phillips, based on my love of Nora Roberts, and so far I have loved everything. I am working my way through her Chicago Stars series.

message 71: by Lisa M (new)

Lisa M I'm going to count The Paris Wife by Paula McLain as my guilty pleasure. I've been avoiding all the books that have come out recently as fictional bios of ignored women behind great men. Especially when they are so and so's wife, daughter, woman, girl etc But I found myself reading it last week and enjoyed it so what the heck I've just bought Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by Therese Anne Fowler to read too.

message 72: by Staci (new)

Staci (sbhehe) | 1 comments There are so many books I consider wonderful guilty pleasures, and with the exception of sticking with the Stephanie Plum series, I do not feel too guilty about reading any of them. But as a Veronica Mars fan, my guilty pleasure book will be Mr Kiss and Tell, the second of the Veronica Mars books. I love Neptune, and I am not ashamed to share that here!

message 73: by Tatiana (new)

Tatiana (pluidenovembre) | 23 comments I'm at a loss... I don't consider reading a guilty pleasure, ever. Maybe I'll buy something I normally wouldn't, like The X-Files and Philosophy (which I'm really curious about) and read that for the guilty pleasure task.

message 74: by Heidi (last edited Apr 03, 2015 06:50AM) (new)

Heidi Schwartz | 54 comments Finally read the Velveteen Rabbit. The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams . Darling little story and I'm glad I used my guilt pleasure to finally check this sweet little tale off my list.

message 75: by Pat (new)

Pat Bryan | 21 comments Big Little Lies-Liane Moriarty-guilty pleasure because so different from what I usually read and there was some schadenfreude involved.Murder in the yummy-mummy set but also a much darker theme....

message 76: by Robin P (new)

Robin P Heidi wrote: "Finally read the Velveteen Rabbit. The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. Darling little story and I'm glad I used my guilt pleasure to finally check this sweet little tale off my list."

I only read it as an adult and maybe that's why I have a weird view of this book. To me the message seems to be that people who love you neglect and hurt you! Although looking at this on Easter, you could see it as a story of rebirth.

message 77: by Violet (new)

Violet Taylor (violettaylor) | 0 comments Urban Fantasy is my guilty pleasure. I read Night Broken By Patricia Briggs. The Mercy Thompson series is amazing!

message 78: by Mj (new)

Mj | 32 comments I selected The First Bad Man by Miranda July for my Guilty Pleasure and finished reading it on March 30th. Unfortunately the pleasure part didn't happen. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

message 79: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Doose I read Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer. Unfortunately it wasn't much of a "pleasure" because I ended up not liking it, but I'm still counting it because it was something I was interested in and wanted to read, but would have been embarrassed to tell people that I was reading it.

message 80: by Sk888888 (new)

Sk888888 | 8 comments I found The Andy Cohen Diaries on CD at my library last week, it seemed perfect for this category. Guess what? It is the perfect guilty pleasure book. I find myself wallowing in his shallowness. Without guilt. lol

message 81: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Matakas Arita (lmatakas) | 5 comments I loved Veronica Mars. I loved the show, I loved the movies, and I needed a hit from the Neptune world, so I read the second novel in the new book series written by Rob Thomas (the guy who ran the show/movie). Good but not great, I read it mostly because it's fun to romp through all of those characters again. Still feelin' guilty about it though haha

message 82: by Betsy (new)

Betsy | 33 comments I just finished "Bad Monkey' by Carl Hiassen. His colorful Florida characters and satisfying endings make his books fun for me to read, and this one is no exception. I find his books are a fast and entertaining read, and I read his books when I'm in the doldrums.

message 84: by Julia (new)

Julia (mizzelle) | 49 comments I struggled with this one as well, because I really don't have guilty pleasures reading wise, per se. But I picked Nalini Singh's Angels' Blood for my choice. Enjoyed the world, but odd pacing issues with plot vs main romance.

message 85: by Sophie (new)

Sophie The Art of Wishing by Lindsay Ribar. It is a cute paranormal high school romance with a genie.

message 86: by Katee Scarlett (new)

Katee Scarlett Knittle | 1 comments I decided to read The Edge of Reason by Helen Fielding for this one. I loved the first one and I would honestly say that modern day Jane Austen adaptions are my guilty pleasure.

message 87: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizsvoboda) | 15 comments Just thought I'd leave this here... When I'm Shamed for Reading a Guilty Pleasure

message 88: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E I read Paragon Walk by Anne Perry, the third of her Thomas and Charlotte Pitt mystery series set in Victorian London. I don't feel guilty about it but the book didn't fit any other challenge category that I still need.

message 89: by Tatiana (new)

Tatiana (pluidenovembre) | 23 comments I ended up reading Valley of the Dolls for this challenge.

message 90: by Bonnie G. (new)

Bonnie G. (narshkite) | 1413 comments I love guilty pleasure books! I am going to say Romancing the Duke even though I id'd it for my romance read too. Its a perfect escape.

message 91: by steph (last edited May 07, 2015 07:29AM) (new)

steph | 10 comments strange concept (i don´t feel guilty over reading). i put orson welles' radio theater adaptation of The War of the Worlds here, because it is not a book, it is not an audiobook, i am celebrating o.w.'s 100th birthday, and i pretended to work while i was listening *grin*

message 92: by Katie (new)

Katie (bookmouse424) I read "Bunny and the Bear" by Eve Langlais for this task. Here is my review:
https://bookmouseblog.wordpress.com/2...
Bunny and the Bear (Furry United Coalition, #1) by Eve Langlais

message 93: by Miss Jones (new)

Miss Jones | 26 comments I jumped on the fifty shades bandwagon for this task and I have just finished reading Fifty Shades of Grey. The author must have one heck of an agent because I can not understand for the life of me how she managed to sell over 70 million copies. But with bad writing (my inner goddess wanted to slap the author every time she came across the words inner goddess), a rich and handsome man and kinky sex scenes (which by the way were NOT unique, Zane has been writing these types of scenes for years) this book was the perfect contender for this task.

message 94: by Liz (last edited Jun 13, 2015 10:06PM) (new)

Liz (lizsvoboda) | 15 comments I read Laurell K. Hamilton's Jason, which is a "pit stop" book to the Anita Blake series. Let's just say 50 Shades ain't got nothing on Laurell K.

Leslie (updates on SG) (leslie_ann) | 153 comments I'm applying Mr. Kiss and Tell because Veronica Mars is pure entertainment.

message 96: by Kari (new)

Kari (klhennenfent) I was going to reread a book for this category, something I rarely do outside of sharing a book with my girls. However upon starting The Art of Neil Gaiman it quickly moved to this category perfectly. Guilty Pleasure because he is an author crush, the format of the book lent itself to not good for bedtime reading, and hmm shouldn't I be washing the dishes or something.

message 97: by Sophia (new)

Sophia | 62 comments Last night I finished Catering to Nobody by Diane Mott Davidson. It's an average cozy mystery that doesn't require much thought, which was perfect for this task and at this stage in the challenge. It was a nice mental break.

message 98: by Katie (new)

Katie | 20 comments Just as Long as We're Together or really anything by Judy Blume geared towards the middle age group. I guess I consider them guilty pleasure because it's like brain candy for me. I miss these books so much!

message 99: by Sam (new)

Sam Mccallum (sammccallum) | 14 comments I found this tricky because I don't tend to feel guilty but realised I do defend reading comic books when caught reading them so I will put down 'The Killing Joke' by Alan Moore.

message 100: by Jen (new)

Jen (reader44ever) | 60 comments I read the entire Anita Blake series, all 24 books, between July 1 and August 4. I hadn't ever read books 23 or 24, but the first 22 were all books I had read before. With so many books on my TBR (over 2,800), it always feels like a guilty pleasure to reread a book. And book one of Anita Blake, Guilty Pleasures, is a book that I have read and reread over 30 times.

(Plus, I think it's kind of neat that my "guilty pleasure" book for this task is actually called Guilty Pleasures, lol!)

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton
