April Mini Challenge
This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players. This month we are joining another team for a bake-off!
In February, you assembled your space treats and in March you embarked on your space travel. So now it is time to come back home and have a tea party with your new found treats.
◈ You can choose any recipe from a different team. With that recipe in hand you need to decide as a team how to eat their treat. You do this by:
→ picking word(s) to "spell-it-out" you can do this with up to 15 letters (they need to be complete words, not only spelling partial words)
→ picking word(s) that you can find on the cover of books or as words in text. You can do this with up to 15 words
→ deciding what else you would like to serve at the tea party. Complete the story on the spreadsheet using book titles. (15 words) Be as creative as you like. You can use as much or as little of a title as you see fit.
◈ Every book read, i.e. every task completed, is worth 10 points.
◈ If you complete all your requirements for a tea party, your team will receive 30 bonus points.
◈ Share your tea party with the team that created the recipe you were given for an additional 10 points. (This means posting to their thread your tea party story)

◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on April 12, 7pm AEST (countdown is here) and before May 1 at 7pm AEST (Countdown to the end of April is here)
You can find other teams recipes here

I'll ask the other captains what they think.

Could someone please add these to our spreadsheet? Thank you!

It consists of 3 parts:
Part 1: Spell-it-out
We will need to pick words from our chosen recipe (up to 15 letters) and spell them out. The chosen words have to be spelled out fully.
Spell-it-out rules for this part are a bit different from the main challenge rules:
For this mini-challenge, you are using the same rules that apply for UNO. So a letter needs to be the first letter in the book title, author first name or surname, character name or nickname, or setting. Articles (a/an/the) can be ignored in the book titles. For this spell-it-out, you can also use the first letter in the series name.
Part 2: words on the cover or in text
"picking word(s) that you can find on the cover of books or as words in text. You can do this with up to 15 words"
This means picking words out of the chosen recipe and finding them on the cover (which may be items) or as words in the text. Book colours can also work. For instance, if the recipe calls for a lime then we can use a lime green cover.
Part 3: Write a story
"Complete the story on the spreadsheet using book titles. (15 words) Be as creative as you like. You can use as much or as little of a title as you see fit."
In the story, we are in a tea party and need to figure out what to serve.
Hope this helps. It took me many times to fully understand how this mini works😅

In the interest of time, I'll choose the recipe myself. I'm going to get to that in about an 1,5 hours, so if you have a preference let me know! I hope this is fine with you all:)
I think that a longer recipe will give us more options, so I'll look at them.

Makes 12 small or 6 medium servings
INGREDIENTS
6 eggs, (Yolks only)
60 grams shredded coconut
80 grams Pure Sugar
120 Grams – Dry White Wine
½ cup Thickened Cream
1 tsp cornflour
1 Vanilla Bean, seeds scraped
300 grams fresh Berries – Blueberries, Strawberries (cut diagonally)
Juice of 1 orange
270 grams of diced starfruit and Kiwifruit
2 passion fruit (Keep cold in airtight container)
Zest of 2 meteoroid limes (ask your local NASA)
2 Lady finger bananas, sliced 1 cm thick circles
Lemon juice (optional)
Garnish
Touch of Full Moon Sea Salt
1 mint leaf
KITCHEN TOOLS
A sharp knife
A large bowl made from asteroid or nickel
A medium glass bowl (24cm in diameter minimum)
A large saucepan of simmering water
A balloon whisk or Electric beater
Dessert goblets or large martini glasses
A Plate
A Spatula
A Spoon
Optional
A Pen (Mark off steps as you go)
Food handling gloves (Hygiene)
METHOD
1. About an hour before serving the dessert, rinse the berries and drain them on a plate and paper towel. Slice off the stems and halve or quarter the strawberries lengthwise, depending on size, into the glass bowl. Add the starfruit, kiwifruit and bananas. Sprinkle over a teaspoon of the sugar, the meteroroid lime zest and the orange juice; fold gently together to blend well. Taste and add more sugar or orange juice if needed, set aside to macerate.
2. Whisk the egg yolks, wine, vanilla, cornflour, cream and sugar in the asteroid/nickel bowl. Rest the bowl in the saucepan over hot water. Whisk constantly for 4 to 5 minutes or more to cook the sauce, until it has the consistency of lightly whipped cream and peaks start to form. Clear the bottom of the bowl constantly with the whisk so that the eggs do not scramble and adjust the heat as needed. Taste the sauce — the sabayon should never get so hot that you can't stick your very clean finger in it — and whisk drops of lemon juice or more sugar if you want. When thick, foamy, and tripled in volume, remove from heat. It can be served hot as is, tepid, or cool.
3. Spoon a portion of the fruit mix from the glass bowl — 1/2 cup or more — into each goblet or glass. Sprinkle a thin layer of shredded coconut on top (to your stomach/taste) then top with 1/3 to 1/2 cup of warm or cool sabayon.
4. Remove the pulp from the passionfruit.
5. Garnish with passionfruit pulp, full moon sea salt and a mint leaf

I've added the letters to the tracking post and tracking ss.
I've also struck through the words that have been already used, so you know what words are available.

1) The spell-out
2) Words in text/cover
3) Neither, so I know we can use it in the story.

Basically, right now books need to either:
1) fit the spell-out (in our case all the letter in "FULL MOON SEA SALT") using regular spell-out rules (author, characters names).
For instance, The book title starts with "L", so it fits for "L" in FULL
2) Or the book features a word found in Team VanGuard Sabayon recipe. For instance "Little Fires Everywhere" feature the word "fruit" in its text and its also in the recipe:)
Little Fires Everywhere: "At mealtimes they stopped by the side of the road, feeding themselves from the paper bag of the groceries behind the driver's seat: bread and peanut butter, fruit, sometimes salami..."
Team VanGuard Sabayon recipe: "3. Spoon a portion of the fruit mix from the glass bowl — 1/2 cup or more — into each goblet or glass. Sprinkle a thin layer of shredded coconut on top (to your stomach/taste) then top with 1/3 to 1/2 cup of warm or cool sabayon."
I hope that clears it up. I know it took me many times before I understood the rules myself😅
I added your book for "fruit" in text.

Lime green cover would work for "lime".
Also, I'm going to go yes with plurals of words. That is usually what is allowed. That being said our chosen recipe has the word "glasses" and "glass" in there, so you could use either:)

Right now it appears that we have Part 1 and 2 completed. Now, we need 15 books to write a story (using their titles) about a tea party and what we would serve there. Just like we had to do last month.

Kristel,
I don’t know if you can use this one. I wasn’t really reading it for UNO but more for my own information. It is 196 pages and only seems to exist as an e-book. The ISBN is 9781788038409. I appear to be the only person on Goodreads who has read it or reviewed it!
