Series Read: The Hollows series by Kim Harrison

I don't know if I'm joining for the second book read. I'm thinking of binging the whole series in March so I can finish the last three books. Granted, I really have no desire to read the first book again, lol.

The first book did seem to take awhile to get going. First in series-itis...LOL! I actually have two scheduled in February, so I'm hoping we'll have a few that are ready to move onto book 3 before March 1st.

On an off note...I'm planning to read the next (for me) Weather Warden book this month, too (Thin Air by Rachel Caine). The last book ended with a painful cliffhanger. Time to see if Joanne gets her world back in order.

Chpt 18-23 (75%): Starting to pick up. (view spoiler)[Rachel is captured by Trent?! I'm glad Jenks got out and hopefully, he and Ivy will rescue Rachel some how.

I liked how being captured ended up being very informative and also gave Rachel a rest from the assassins. So Francis is on Trent's payroll, no one is surprised, how else was that incompetent promoted. I am wondering if Denon is also on Trent's payroll, except his personnel wouldn't be trying to kill her if Trent was actually trying to recruit her.

Faris's death was a little shocking, but everyone's reaction as almost normal was very disturbing. So Trent is making biodrugs and using Brimstone as a distraction.

It's very scary how Trent manipulates things to own people. It's much worse than slavery. It's like holding their lives and families hostage. It's not just for business or money.

Rat fights sounded very scary! Good thing Rachel and Baron worked things out and YAY Jenks! Though, I'm not sure if I trust Nick as a human who takes vampires, witches, pixies and black magic in stride.

How did Trent know how Rachel disabled Francis and other things about her life? (hide spoiler)]

Yeah, I took a quick break from the series to read the last two Cut & Run books that are out, before the series finishes in March. And to make sure I finish up an ARC or two that I have. And to try to finish the super long high fantasy book I'm in the middle of... And to read some of the short stories from the Hollows LOL.

I also have a few rereads I need to do so I can read the new ones coming out this month and next -- ie Bloodlines by Richelle Mead, Sanguines series by James Rollins & Rebecca Cantrell, The Others by Anne Bishop, etc.

Chpt 24-28 (85%): I want to like (view spoiler)[Nick, but I don't trust him. I feel bad that he was a fighting rat, but he seems too familiar with black magic and demons.

That demon freaked me out and when he attacked Rachel as Ivy, that was twisted. Why did someone want her scared and then dead? That doesn't sound like an I.S. death contract. Trent? Francis? No, Francis wouldn't have those kind of connections or power. So Trent...

Rachel's dripping wrist is so gross. She is so breakable. She needs weapons and some serious luck. And she needs to resolve the death threat.

Yay, Keasley to the rescue. I liked him from the beginning. I'm glad he sounds like a good guy!

Book one and even book two were slow for me. I kept reading because I knew it had to get really good to have had a 13 book run. I enjoyed them, but the farther I've gone along, the better they've gotten. :)

I don't know if I can let the length of the series sway me. I am not a huge fan of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series and I'm actually not crazy about Sue Grafton's 23-book series or in Rachel Caine's 15-book Morganville Vampires series.

But I'm definitely warming up to Rachel and her friends.

I can see where the author is still world-building, but knowing the series picks up is a motivator. Knowing I almost stopped after the first Kate Daniels book was a lesson learned. The last four books in that series were off the charts.

A bit of confusion here about Ivy: (view spoiler)[What is her weird connection to Rachel? I'm wondering if she knows something about Rachel's future that she doesn't. They never really hammered out why Ivy rented the church so far ahead of time. I think she's been setting things up for awhile and has a very personal agenda. Either that or she's grown dependent on Rachel to stay on the wagon. I guess I'll find out later!

Now, if the ball would get rolling...I want to know what Trent's been up to. (hide spoiler)]

Same for me with Kate Daniels so I always think about that too! I almost didn't continue on with the Experiment in Terror series either after the first book. I agree with Steven ~ I'm not as far as he is ~ but I totally agree that each book had been better than the last so far!

Interesting interactions between Rachel, Ivy and Kisten.. Rachel sure does trust Ivy so much more than I think I would.. There's something almost predestined about their relationship.. Wondering how things will progress from here.

Thanks, Lauren! I'm further into The Good, the Bad, and the Undead and something is definitely going on.

Chapter 15: (view spoiler)[What the heck is Rachel thinking!?! I get that she wants to be a good friend to Ivy, but if Nick hadn't intervened, she would've become her new "puppy" regardless of her protesting "no". The demon mark obviously makes her vulnerable, but why didn't Ivy tell her that right away? Granted, Ivy and Rachel haven't "talked" yet and Jenks is telling her to give Ivy space, so I may still get answers. Picarny is pulling Ivy's strings, too. She is one messed up vampire.

(view spoiler)[Why or why do I have this weird feeling that Trent isn't as bad as he seems? I got that in the first book, then dismissed it after he killed the scientist and covered it up. Now his aura matches Rachel's? Definitely another mysterious character. Dying to know what he's up to and what exactly he's "looking" for.

Nick isn't coming across as strong and adorable like he did in the last book. I still like him, but it feels as if he's been shifted to the back burner, even though he and Rachel are involved. (hide spoiler)]

I really like how this is shaping up as a series.

I just knew there was something about him that wasn't so...corrupt. I rolled when I got to the Keebler's cookies. I'm still curious about what it means for Rachel's abilities. Is she half and half? Or human/witch/Keebler? And does that mean she has special powers? Trent seemed to really freak at the bridge. What is he scared of? Then again, she did put him in the trees when she was little. Rachel sure keeps pushing the boundaries just a little bit further each time - between Rachel, Kisten & Ivy... Wondering where this will all lead too eventually as it seems Rachel is playing with fire here.

Not to mention all the demon interactions and now Tom asking her to join some demon circle. Run Rachel, Run! Those people can't be good...

Love David! Great showdown at the bar and it was awesome how calm cool and collected David was having her back.

Hurts me in my heart each time there's a reference to Jenks' age... The series can't go on without him. He's such a big part of why I love this series so much.
