Gah, I was just about to start this this month, but noooo yet another book I'm waiting on for buddy reading LOL.

I might have to read it anyways. I have a hankering for UF.

Steven, you could just start the discussions as you go and then others will catch up as they read, too. That way you get buddy read points, even if a little delayed. :D

I read this book a few years ago, would love to try to reread it in January

I went ahead and started. I forgot that I had discovered it was going to be a buddy read NEXT month. So I'll just discuss it as I go along and when people get around to it, they can talk too. Then if the mods think it's okay, it'll count for Tower Teams, and if not, no worries. :)

So, I'm 6% in (that's chapter one), and I'm intrigued. It didn't grip me quite as hard as Dresden, Kate Daniels, etc did, but it did pique my interested enough to make me want to keep on reading. So I think I'll do just that -- and get to know our protag, Rachel Morgan, a little better. :)

I've read a few more chapters, and am really enjoying the characters. The plot hasn't moved forward much, but it IS the first book, and it does need to take the time to establish the characters a little bit, so I'm pushing on. I have a feeling the poo is going to hit the fan soon and then the action will drive the plot forward quickly!

I'm still waiting on this one from my library....2 people ahead of me, so it could be 6 weeks or less depending on how quickly they turn them in!

I can't read before the end of this month unless I work some magic! I've got 3 books that I have to read before ME, so I'm hoping it doesn't come too soon! And somehow I've managed to commit myself to a few BR starting early January that managed to overlap....maybe I just need to take a month off from work and stay home and read??!!

I'm taking a week (between Christmas and New Year), but that's the most I can do...and unfortunately it won't be 100% reading, but probably 75% of waking hours will hopefully be such!!!

36%ish (view spoiler)[ Wow, Ivy and her friends can be really scary! I feel like maybe Ivy is trying to get rid of her vampire-ness, like a cure or something? Or at least tame her bloodlust? And I feel like Ivy cares about Rachel beyond being work partners. Maybe friendship? Or a crush? I dunno. Could even be love! Also, Jenks is no Toot-toot, but he's growing on me. :) (hide spoiler)]

I have a feeling Ivy is going to jump in and save her. I wish I could figure her out better... she's an interesting character for sure... very intriguing!! (hide spoiler)]

This is getting crazy! Hopefully she gets out soon. I don't want to read the rest of the book with her as a mink. :P Or trapped by Trent!!! (hide spoiler)]

73%ish (view spoiler)[ Wow... so ratty is a man, named Nick. Kinda Geekish with muscles -- rawr, my type haha.

And he knows about Demons... as one is attacking Rachel. wow. crazy stuff going on! Not 15% ago, the story was about a person trapped as a mink in a cage by a drug dealer. Now it's about a demon trying to kill the same person, now human again, in a library basement.

I'm halfway done now and am liking this story so far. It took me a while to really get into this world, but that is pretty common for me with urban fantasy. Rachel is a fun protagonist and I especially like Jenks.

(view spoiler)[so far it doesn't seem like Rachel has to use a lot of skill to do her job. She seems to get lucky or have the right people helping her. I hope she proves herself with this Kalamack situation.

I also don't understand why simply quitting her job is reason enough for them to try and kill her but that is part of their world.

I like how doing magic isn't just a simple thing...how Rachel gets nervous to do things and has to work at it. (hide spoiler)]

Well, I clicked on this because it's on my TBR and thought I might join the BR, since the header says it starts January 12 - a week away. I've got one book going already and waiting on a different library book, which I will also need to commit to, but thought I could fit this in around the 12th.

However, seems like everybody started already and some WAAAAY early. Is there still a Buddy Read for this starting on the 12th?

Not reading all the posts, because I don't want any spoilers for when I DO read it.
