Where do you get the short stories from?

They're in other anthologies. I try to find them online, usually, or through a friend who reads Urban Fantasy, or see if my library has them.

If I can't get them easily, I usually skip them -- it kills my completionist leanings, but it can't be helped!

Ok, I will try and start this series with you guys. I have Hollows #1 and #12 on my Kindle - they both dropped in price. But AAAAARGGH! That leaves 11 in the middle! I HATE not having a complete set of things, but I can only afford so much. The library will have these, I know. . .

I'm only up to Chapter 4 so far, but I totally agree. This series was recommended to me for that very reason and I'm already seeing why. I started the book last night and struggled to get into it. I only got to about page 10 and put it down. I'm not sure if it's just my frame of mind last night that I wasn't following or too many distractions at home of what. I'm going to give it another shot tonight as I heard a lot of really good things and I want to enjoy it, just felt really lost and wasn't following the first few pages.

I started the book last night and I'm now on chapter 24.

I find it interesting that there are pixies and leprechauns. Rachel seems to be struggling with her job. She isn't go good at it and really don't come natural. I like that she is having to learn a lot and how to mask her smell so the vampires don't get driven nuts by her smell. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I was a little confused about the world. But I was able to catch on more to is the further you get. It's kind of like just go with and enjoy the ride because it will all come together and you'll get glimpses of this and that and understand it more.

I do think the book is really interesting and attention grabbing, but it did take me a couple chapters to really be able to get into it.

Spoilers through Chapter 27:
(view spoiler)[The dog demon thing really freaked me out. I wasn't necessarily shocked to see a demon in the world, since there seems to be a little of everything, but it was still really intense.

I'm also really hoping Rachel changes her mind about black magic, I really like her being a white magic witch and her being a little more scrappy and resourceful to find her way out of situations.

Also as a random prediction, I think Trent Kalamack is an elf? Just because it would be something Rachel and Jenks haven't smelled before because of the crazy tomato thing. That's just my guess right now. (hide spoiler)]

Finally caught up on other books and starting this now! YAY! Hope I'm not the last one to start, but it would be about par for me. Since I'm caught up with Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson, I'm hoping this will be my next "go to" UF series to enjoy while I wait for new publications!

(view spoiler)[ That really makes sense. It's obviously a complicated world the author's created, and she has to set the scene for us in this first book. I think I've kind of gotten used to that with starting new paranormal/fantasy type series, they all sort of have to drag us through the first book so we can get a vibe on this version of an alternate world. I'm not sure what to think yet. I didn't get very far into the story and I have a feeling it will take some time for it to get going.

Up to chapter 11 and I'm hooked. (view spoiler)[I wasn't sure where the story was going until I got past the "girls night" discussion. I still liked it, but now I'm really enjoying it as things start to click in place. I'm really curious about the new neighbor across the street. Something tells me he is more than a "lonely old man."

I also like that Rachel isn't the "perfect" or "super" witch. I think she has mad skills, but between Devon sabotaging her cases and her concern over addiction to power, she's been keeping it on the down low. Loved her confidence in her spell when she transformed to a minx. She's not insecure with her skills, just cautious.

Ivy is a neat mystery! I want to know what she wished for and what she's hiding. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 3-6:

I'm starting to get into the story a little more. I like the way world building is taking place. I like the characters, they are not perfect with some character flaws.

@ Blakely, I would try anything to resist her and would probably hide somewhere. Ivy's scary....

@Becky I agree with everything you've said above, Rachel really had a boss from Hell. I'm not hooked yet, but I'm getting there the story gets more interesting with each chapter.

I'm at 68%: (view spoiler)[I can't believe it took Jenks three days to get back to Rachel after Trent captured her in mink form. I thought for sure she would end up in the fish tank being dispelled, so the rat fights were a surprise. What a place to meet a guy! I like Nick so far. How did he end up as a rat in the pit?

I think Ivy and Rachel are making progress in trusting each other. It says a lot that Ivy was calling in favors to plan a rescue. I'm also curious about Sarah. What exactly does Trent want from her? Here's hoping Rachel can stop him before he kills again. Really enjoying this!

Started back on trying this book again this morning. I skimmed the first few pages since that's where I got stuck before, but once I got a little more into it I think it'm going to be okay! LOL! Didn't get too far since I was reading on my drive in to work, but will definitely read more tonight!

I really want to jump into the next book, but I can't because of other challenge commitments. Argh. This is really a neat start to the series. It's a completely different spin on a world with preternatural creatures. For those of you that have read ahead, how do the future books match up? Do they get better or at least keep pace?

Got a little farther last night....still not as quick a read as I would like, but I'm enjoying it. I think the hard part is there are so many "other" beings! I am losing track of what/who everyone is! I just recently started reading paranormal books, so I think keeping track of all the other creatures and what they are is harder for me!

Chapter 7-17

The story is getting better with every chapter I read. I love that there is a lot of witch stuff and that Rachel has to work to make spells and potions work. I really like Jenks and his family snd Ivy is storating to grow on me. I'm really curious as to where this story is going.
