Children's booksThe captains have started to check some books tagged as childrens, and those that meet the book requirement length are being added to this special shelf here which may be helpful to find books that are pre-qualified to count for UNO
Summertime (aka Mikayla) wrote: "Mary Poppins shouldn't count...it's waaay too short per book"The first book has 38 085 words according to AR bookfinder so it's perfectly fine to read :)
Summertime (aka Mikayla) wrote: "Mary Poppins shouldn't count...it's waaay too short per book"The rules are for 25k words, and it is verified as 38k words.
Alternatively the guidance says audio should be 3hrs, and there are three different versions all over 3hrs.
So it counts - be happy :)
ETA: and the basic rule of minimum 100 pages overrides everything! If it's not 100p then don't even bother checking as it won't work.
Um my library has them as super short books...also, I'm going to need longer children's books added to that list

yeah, abridged versions won't count!
so what are the last books you loved, and we'll see what we can do for longer books...
of course, only books with the Childrens/Middle Grade tag on the first page have been added - that's a really transitional level where some books end up tagged as Young Adult, not Childrens, so don't need the verification (I was going to add Alanna: The First Adventure or The Ruby in the Smoke, but neither have the dangerous Childrens tag). Goodreads tagging is a funny world at times.
oh, and you don't have to read only books from that list, it was just some options that are pre-checked for length. Your captains can check books as you start them and confirm if they work.
A few books that have the middle grade, Children’s tag that I’ve read in the past and we’re long enough for UNO. Hatchet, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, and How to Train Your Dragon.

David Tennant does do good audio... I've not listened to any of Dragon but did have David read The Wizards of Once to me. swoon.Nearly as much as when Richard Armitage reads to me ;-P
David Tennant is the reason I “read” listened to How to Train your Dragon and a few others in the series. They have good color covers too. I might have to see about the rest of the series. Thanks for reminding me who narrated.

Or Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl books?
Mortal Engines is a lot of fun too.

Do we need to worry about reading order? Or just the order we finish the hands? Can we work on all the hands at once and just hold off on finishing one until the previous one is completed?
Mary C wrote: "Do we need to worry about reading order? Or just the order we finish the hands? Can we work on all the hands at once and just hold off on finishing one until the previous one is completed?"You can finish hands/cards in whatever order you like. You only have to be worried about earlier hands being finished if you dont have enough to cover the whole month. If that is the case near the end of the month, you can move stuff around from later hands to earlier ones
UpdateToday is the last day to check-in to your teams, or you will be replaced.
We now have enough reserves for replacements, plus a whole new team. So if you are on the reserve list ; keep an eye on goodreads for the next few days.
Or if you haven't signed up, but want to, now is the time!
My name is Michele. I played UNO 2 years ago I believe but skipped last year. Not sure why. So fun! I love that it focuses me to read more. My TBR pile is massive so I feel fairly confident on colors. I really enjoy the teamwork and look forward to meeting my teammates!

Would this count as red? Tineye says it's more orange than red"
Beth, post it to your team's thread. If the team can't work it out, your captain can ask in the captain's thread.
Hey Cat, and any other Brits, how are you doing?I have been so absorbed in the nightmare that is my country for the moment, I forgot about yours.
Do you have any sense of what will change? Are you going personally crazy?
My condolences in any case.
Ughh. I spent yesterday avoiding all the obnoxious "celebrations"we are now into the trade deal negotiations, where we'll no doubt discover that we are not as powerful a partner as we think we are...
So I guess I'll be continue to be depressed by the whole sh*tshow!
I've been keeping a light eye on the impeachment trial - seems like the Republicans fear further airing of information. Do you have a sense of what's going to happen this year?
Yeah. Yesterday was a sad day for Democracy. The republicans voted to not allow witnesses and documents in a trial. In a trial! Idiots. Even if they had decided to vote not to remove the apricot clown ahead of time, the fact that they were too afraid to even let more evidence in is appalling. I really hope that many of them are voted out of office in November because of this action, but I do not have faith in the American electorate. The overarching feeling of depression about what is happening to my country just got a bit deeper. But, it has motivated me to give campaign contributions to more senate candidates.I don't have a feeling about what will happen. At all. I want to think that there is only one year left of this nightmare, and people who care will get out and vote, but there is so much propaganda and voter suppression going on that I am not optimistic.
But, I have a lovely cup of coffee in front of me, and I am about to ignore doing chores in order to start a book, so life is fine.
You should still be able to fill in the sign-up form - that will automatically put you on the reserves list :-)
Cat, Jenny condolences to all of us. Lets face the music even if we don´t live in one of your countries we will have to live with the repercussions of letting loose the apricot clown and his bedraggled clone on all of menkind. The republicans should be ashamed of themselfs. To be so afraid of loosing power to not look at the big picture. When he gets reelected there will be nothing left to hold him back as he has no reason to reign himself in for another election. I fear for all of us.
I think I will be avoiding watching the news for a few days. Not sure if I can take the lies and spin that will be coming out of the senate and the White House. It just seems such a set back for my pretty country, that while far, far, from perfect, was for years at least trying to do better. "The moral arc of the universe is long, but it bends towards justice." I am keeping this thought in my head even if the arc seems to have flattened for now.Sorry, I know this is not a political thread. I will change the subject now.
I won 25 cents off of my mother yesterday on the Super Bowl!!!!!!
Anyone else win big? (Or, you know, read anything worth sharing?)
If a book takes place in multiple plot critical locations, can all of those locations be used for place name?
Sha wrote: "If a book takes place in multiple plot critical locations, can all of those locations be used for place name?"You should first check the FAQ thread and if you can't see the answer check with your captains. They will take to the captains group if unsure :)

Mikayla wrote: "If a series has basically all the same locations and characters, can each book be counted?"Each book you read can be counted, if it meets the minimum page/word counts.
So if I read each of the Harry Potter series, I can use all of them for a three card (Harry).
If a team mate also read all of the series they can also use them for the three card.
Does that answer you?

Yes. So if it fits for like six cards for each book and there's five books? Then that's fine?
