UNO 2020 Pre Challenge Chat
Summertime (aka Mikayla) wrote: "library visit tomorrow...wondering if I should try some easy to read young adult books"Go for it!
You have a bit of time before the challenge start to see if those are suitable for you.
All my local libraries got closed down and they opened this new shiny one with metal shelves.. I know a library is a library, but it's just not as fun to be in.. I buy most of my books online, Amazon Prime is a god send!!
Team threads will be posted within the next 12(ish) hours
I know everyone is super keen to meet their team members, but be aware that when teams are first posted they will be closed until the captain has a chance to visit the thread and reserve a few spots ; or for 24 hours (whichever happens first) ; and then will be opened for team members to visit. You must check-in to your thread by Jan 26 (that means visiting the team thread and making a comment to introduce yourself to your team).
As for the theme for team names this year....
2020 is a pretty special year. Check out these predictions and these reasons and it will give you a bit of a hint as to our theme.
By the way, is anyone hungry? I feel like something sweet....

I love these predictions, so cool! Love stuff like this!
PS. Given the chance, I'd 100% move to Mars.

Is the theme sci-fi? Oh I am so curious now!
I'm so excited it's really about to begin!!!

ty I searched and couldnt find it
Summertime (aka Mikayla) wrote: "library visit tomorrow...wondering if I should try some easy to read young adult books"I sent you a message
@Teresa - I assumed that was your problem! I figured that giving you the ability to self-serve was better than just answering :)(I'm a learn by do person)
I'm a library gal as well. Although I do have an audible subscription. I used to buy out of state library cards from Brooklyn and Philadelphia. But Philly discontinued their out of state cards. I decided not to renew Brooklyn again if I can help it. When I first moved back to my hometown area in 2010, the local library system had very little in the way of digital books. Now they have a ton. And a benefit of living in a densely populated state with lots of tiny little cities is that they are now all connected in the library system. So I have access to the Boston library and total of 8 digital catalogs plus Hoopla. I'm always good with waiting for a book. There's so many I want to read that I never feel the need to buy a new release.

My guess for team name theme is Sci-Fi meets Chocolate Bars. Mars was a pretty clear theme for most peoples future predictions!

Yaaaiii!!
Can't wait to see the team names haha, I like the idea of android versions =P
Summertime (aka Mikayla) wrote: "I'm just nervous my captain might not like having someone who is a sixth grade reading level."speaking as a past captain, we like people who communicate & deliver on what they say they'll read. we don't like people who vanish on us.
So far you are defo winning on the communication :) any captain worth their salt will be able to work with you to make sure that at least some of your books meet the requirements
Summertime (aka Mikayla) wrote: "I'm just nervous my captain might not like having someone who is a sixth grade reading level."Seconding what Cat said. Everyone was a newcomer to challenges at one point.
Your posts show your willingness to participate and to comply with the rules, so NO WORRIES! :)
Mikayla, I am a fifth grade teacher and sometimes read middle grades fiction during Uno. I can help you figure out requirements whether you’re on my team or not!
Laura wrote: "Mikayla, I am a fifth grade teacher and sometimes reads middle grades fiction during Uno. I can help you figure out requirements whether you’re on my team or not!"you can? I appreciate it a lot. Thanks Laura
I agree with Melindam and Cat, someone who communicates is much better than someone who doesn't. No matter what though, we're here to make sure you have fun and enjoy the game of UNO!
I'm here. I know I have not communicated much, but I like to lurk since I am a newbie. You can rest assured I will be communicating all over the place once the teams have been assigned. Because I will need to be able to look at the cards and then look at my books and see what I can read and contribute.
Hiya everyone! I don't think I've ever actually commented in this group - I unfortunately fell off with reading for awhile but prior to that I was active in other challenge groups and started searching out more and more incentives to read.I'm Alexis - it's nice to meet everyone! Forgive me for my initial lapse in checking message boards, I'll get better! It's been awhile since I've been active and attentive on GoodReads but I'm eager to participate in this reading challenge.
Like I said prior, I've had experience with other large scale reading challenges in other groups (NBRC Wobble, especially) and did that relatively consistently for about a year prior to school, life, and untreated mental illness knocking me down for the count.
I'm anxious to see the teams, meet everyone, and get to strategizing.
I'm a big fan of young adult, fantasy, classics, sci-fi, and biographies in terms of genre. I have a whole slew of books I'm intent on reading that I'll have at my disposal for this.

Mikayla - we all should know for sure by tomorrow - the captains get the chance to know their teams today and make whatever arrangements they have to make....
📕 Name: Laura📕 Team Challenge experience: Too much to list! I've done some of the big ones at NBRC (I'm looking at you, Wobble!), and a lot of the team challenges in AMMP/Game Night
📕 Have you joined UNO before? Yes! I think I've played every time. I've captained the last 3 or 4 years.
📕 Favourite genres: I read a bit from a bunch of genres. I don't much care for non-fiction, but I even read some there. My current favorite is Reverse Harem, which is probably more like a sub-genre, because I can read sci-fi, fantasy, UF, Paranormal, or even Contemporary within that genre.
📕 Book you can't wait to read in 2020: The next one. I'm always looking forward to the next one!

And that's how I discovered that I spent $750 on Audible last year! Needless to say, I'm hoarding my 4 credits!
Kindle Unlimited is my saving grace!

I remember Wobble too, it was exhausting but so much fun at the same time, I loved all the different challenges that were on it haha.

And I thought I was terrible with buying too many books last year but I don't think I reached that amount - but to be fair, I'm afraid to add it all up and actually look. I'll think I'll just continue living in ignorant bliss :-D

I check things out on my kindle from the library all of the time. I can't always get what I want immediately, but it automatically checks out when it's ready!

I track every book purchase so I know exactly how much I spent on books last year and it's a much larger number than I'd like it to be.

Hey! My name is Sabrina. I love completing the reading challenges with my teammates. However, last year we had several people who didn't read; it was difficult because a couple of us had to sometimes read double or almost triple out monthly expectation to finished all the tasks. It made it a little less fun. This is my 3rd reading for the Uno challenge and I am hoping to be on a more participatory team.
My favorite genre is Romance. I prefer rom-coms and rock-star romances. I also like reading paranormal books.
Books I can't wait to read 2020:
Rockers Legacy Series by Terri Anne Browning
Fake Boyfriend Series by Eden Finley
Talk Dark and Furious by R.L. Mathewson
Runaround by Jay Crownover
The Stage dive series by Kylie Scott
Spellbound by Dannika Dark
The Unhinged Trilogy by Nicole Edwards
Protected Darkness by Nicole Edwards
Bound by Passsion by Brenda K. Davies
Men of Inked:Heatwave series by Chelle Bliss
Wicked series by Piper Lawson
Well I finally have a solid book for the list of what I want to read in 2020! The Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. They released a snippet this morning and I'm not sure how I feel about the concept...but I am definitely intrigued enough to give it a shot.

For example here's a link where I shared a screenshot of my reading spreadsheet's statistics page so you can see just how much I track (this page autofills from the other tabs).
