Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 1505 comments Awwwwww. It's UNO time. You just made my day.

I first played in 2016 so this will be my fifth season of UNO. It's so much fun playing and interacting with your team as well as looking for those tricky colour cards.

I used to be a big romance reader but now I read and enjoy anything. The books I'm looking forward to reading this year are the latest Karen M Moning instalment Kingdom of Shadow and Light (Fever, #11) by Karen Marie Moning and also taking on the massive tome, Book 2 in Ken Follet's 20th Century series, Winter of the World (The Century Trilogy #2) by Ken Follett It's got a blue cover so I might make it my project to start and finish during UNO!

Bring on the fun...

Morgana | 253 comments Can't wait for UNO to start.
I've played last year for the first time and enjoyed it to the max. I read romance, fantasy, mystery, contemporary... anything except memoirs.

I'm already looking for colored covers, hahaha.

There are to many books I can't wait to read this year: You were there too by Colleen Oakley, Love her or lose her by Tessa Bailey, Angry God by LJ Shen, House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas and the list goes on and on.

message 6: by Melanie (last edited Jan 04, 2020 02:02PM) (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Yes, UNO is back! I'm so excited! Last year was my first year playing UNO and I had a blast. Other than UNO, I've participated in a few challenges over in NBRC; a few Wheelathons, the Floor is Lava, and the most recent Tower Teams.

My favorite genres to read are romance (historical, contemporary, suspense, & paranormal), thrillers, cozy mysteries, plus urban fantasy. I don't really read strict fantasy, I need the books to be at least based in our world or a world close enough to ours.

In 2020 I'm hoping to read more of the books I already own as I currently have 790 unread books on my physical shelves (shelf here). But of course there are always new releases I want to get to (shelf here). I'd also like to get caught up on more series as I'm behind on so many.

Here are some of the upcoming releases I'm most looking forward to.
Come Tumbling Down (Wayward Children, #5) by Seanan McGuire The Wild One (Peter Ash, #5) by Nick Petrie The Dark Corners of the Night (UNSUB, #3) by Meg Gardiner Wild, Wild Rake (The Cavensham Heiresses #6) by Janna MacGregor A Duke is Never Enough (The Spitfire Society #2) by Darcy Burke You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks Cross Her Heart (Bree Taggert #1) by Melinda Leigh Don't Make a Sound (Sawyer Brooks #1) by T.R. Ragan

I am also looking forward to Kingdom of Shadow and Light (Fever, #11) by Karen Marie Moning :-)

I think this will be my 4th uno but I do enjoy it every year so always come back :-)

I read mostly paranormal romance and paranormal cozies with a mix of urban fantasy and YA and horror thrown in as the mood takes me

I also have a couple p books I received or Christmas that I have already put aside or uno due to their coloured covers :-P

Looking orward to playing this years

message 8: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Yup, the stack of color cover books is already in a special place. Can't wait to start and find out what the mini challenges will be this year!!!!!

Favorites- sci-fi, well written fiction of any kind, especially if it is a bit weird.
This will be my third time playing Uno.

message 9: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Funny how UNO affects you. lol I'm currently reading Big Lies in a Small Town by Diane Chamberlain and I keep thinking that it would be a great cover for UNO. I need to read it before publication on the 14th. Great idea for someone else though....

message 10: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments I love this challenge! Woot woot!!! I’m on my phone so I’m not sure about how many times but I’m pretty sure this will be my 3rd time so I’ll die if I miss signups!

message 11: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments Ha! Ha! Ha! I guess 2019 was my first year but I loved it!

Favorite genres: mystery/thriller, historical fiction, historical romance, contemporary romance, and some fantasy.

Least favorite: Sci-fi but I do read it.

message 12: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Vicki, if we end up on the same team again, I will read your sci-fi if you read my romance books!

message 13: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments Sounds like a plan, Jenny. Lol

message 14: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 450 comments Woot! Can’t wait to play UNO again! This will be my second time playing. I’ve done several other team challenges. I will read almost anything but I really enjoy urban fantasy and thrillers.

message 15: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 172 comments This will be my first time. I have missed sign ups last time and it broke my heart. Not to worry cause this year, I'm being extra vigilant. I can read just about everything except I'm picky about my romance novels,

message 16: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments So cool seeing so many familiar faces again!

I don't even know how many times I've played Uno, but since the beginning basically! :-)

And wow, there is an 11th book in the Fever series coming?! I read the first 5 and then never could bring myself to read Dani's book haha. It's still sitting on my physical shelf and has been there for 5 or so years...

My most anticipated new release is Chasing Cassandra (The Ravenels, #6) by Lisa Kleypas and it's got a blue cover!

message 17: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 871 comments I LOVE THIS GAME! It's one of the ones I look forward to the most.

📕 Name - Jammin Jenny

📕 Team Challenge experience - I play a lot of team challenges. I find they keep me more honest in posting for my individual games.

📕 Have you joined UNO before? - Oh yes. I think this is my fourth year and I've been co-captain the last couple of years.

📕 Favourite genres - suspense, mystery, thriller, horror, sci-fi/dystopian

📕 Book you can't wait to read in 2020 - the new Jim Butcher book in the Harry Dresden series (hopefully narrated by James Marsters)

message 18: by Helke (new)

Helke (mogelpackung) | 1389 comments Was waiting for the game a long time now. Finally we will play again.
📕 Helke
📕 I love to play team challenges. I play Bingo, Spelling challenges, scavenger hunts and year long challenges for four years now
📕 This will be my second time. Was a bit unsure about UNO at first but after the first couple of weeks and getting used to the rules it was so much fun for me
📕 That would be a long list. It is much easier to say I don´t read incest, YA or NA and seldom Historical
📕 I have a couple of series I´m waiting for the next book. Else I´m looking what looks interesting to me.

message 19: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 976 comments I am SO EXCITED for UNO this year! I’ve been waiting for this post for the last week haha.

I’m Kelly and I’ve not done many challenges but I did do UNO last year (my first year) on Team Maisie Dobbs. It really encouraged me to read books I otherwise wouldn’t and I fell into some really good books.

I’ll read pretty much anything except pure westerns, fantasy like LOTR or GOT, erotica, and super scary/gory horror. Currently my most anticipated book is The Hand On The Wall by Maureen Johnson which is the last in the Truly Devious trilogy and looks like it could fit a green colour card to boot.

Yes!
My husband and I have been (not very) patiently waiting for this. Just a few months to go! I hope Marsters narrates again too. We have been rewatching Buffy this summer - he does such great characters

message 21: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments So nice to see so many familiar faces and some new ones too!

Our first UNO was in 2015. Time has flown by!
It was created as a relaxed challenge without too many bells & whistles. Much more about getting to know your team members and reading new books than about winning. I hope we can continue that vibe in 2020 :)

Sign ups open Jan 14 for one week. We are doing a shorter period this year due to the number of drop-outs last year. Also, anyone who was replaced last year will be flagged in the sign ups and will need to message the UNO Pixie to commit to the challenge for the three months or they won't be assigned to a team.

We will post in this thread when sign ups are open, so keep your notifications turned on!

Christina (chrissy__) | 1241 comments I'm so excited to be playing again!

my first year I joined uno was in 2016 and I've taken part every year since :) I've also done a few team challenges over at NBRC but uno will always be my favourite. I already started saving books which will work for coloured cards as well hah!

I'm currently most looking forward to reading Come Tumbling Down which will be released later this month, but other than that I mostly read backlist books, preferably mysteries, thrillers and contemporaries.

message 24: by Melindam (last edited Jan 05, 2020 07:53PM) (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments Thank God, I finally found my way to the thread!! :)

I seriously started worrying about already having missed the sign-up!!

Happy New Year and Happy New UNO, Everyone!

UNO was my very first team challenge I participated in here on GR (2017) so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

This will be my 4th UNO in a row and I can't wait. And yes, I also have a dedicated colour-cover bookshelf. :)

Favourite genres are classics (especially Jane Austen), fantasy, middle-grade, golden-age detective stories, romances (though I am quite picky and hard to please when it comes to this genre), but I will read anything that strikes my fancy.

I have quite a few books on my TBR list, so it's hard to choose a particulare one. But talking about colour covers, I should really read The Mortal Word (The Invisible Library, #5) by Genevieve Cogman .
Do YA think it's blue enough? LOL

I wonder about the fate of our beloved/loathed (Mad) Tineye (Moody). ;)

message 25: by ✿~Danielle~✿ (new)

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 1759 comments Yay for UNO :) I think I’ve only missed playing uno once and that was the first year it was played.

I’m looking forward to  Smoke Bitten (Mercy Thompson, #12) by Patricia Briggs, Deal with the Devil (Mercenary Librarians, #1) by Kit Rocha, Crush the King (Crown of Shards, #3) by Jennifer Estep

Hey guys - we aren't taking any sign ups or info around sign ups in this thread. You'll need to wait until Jan 14 and then do your sign up. If you have players you want to be with we will try to accommodate and you need to put this in your notes on sign up

I gave up after the second book. The covers always catch my eye because they're really pretty and shiny but the story is just... meh.. and so are the characters... (for me anyway)

message 32: by Cat (last edited Jan 07, 2020 03:00AM) (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Whoop! I'm finally feeling straight after living out of a suitcase for two weeks (family Xmas then skiing).

I've done at least 3 rounds of UNO, and maybe 4. My gateway challenges were individual ones, like SRC and NBRCs RPG one. When the RPG chat mentioned one of the big NBRC team challenges I dove in, and never looked back :)
UNO is a favourite because it's lowkey, so I can read whatever, but with enough challenges (Yellow 5 & 8 cards, I'm looking at you!) to keep it engaging. Plus all the lovely chat between players :)

What am I looking forward to? reading some of the cover colours I've been hoarding since last UNO! I actually started reading Royal Holiday (The Wedding Date, #4) by Jasmine Guillory when I was skiing, then when I went to update GR, I saw the colour cover & recoiled in horror, put it down to find something else! And like Kelly, I'm waiting for the conclusion for the Truly, Devious series (having used #1 & 2 last year!)

Favourite genres? My go-to is Sci-fi / fantasy, but I read most things (horror & self-help being least likely to be picked up though)

message 33: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 4427 comments I liked the stories and the books until now, but still lost interest a bit. We'll see if Book 5 will regain my attention or not.

message 34: by Paula (new)

Paula Reyes Wagner (paurw) | 784 comments Hello!!

I can't wait for UNO to start, I need to finish some books before though.
I started playing UNO in 2016, and haven't stop since then.
My favorite genres are fantasy and historical fiction, but I read almost anything (except horror).
And I need to read some of the books I already own and are waiting for me in my physical shelves haha

message 35: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments I have never played before. I looked at last years. Looks like fun so I'll probably give it a go.

message 36: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 257 comments I'm excited to do another Uno challenge. Last year was my first and I really enjoyed it. I need to go ahead and start looking for some color covers. I also am going to be reading the third Truly, Devious book during Uno.

message 37: by Mary X (last edited Jan 07, 2020 06:31AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments So I have a question. I read through the different card tasks. But can you only use books that also have a matching cover color? For example: every month will we have to focus on one cover color only? That might determine my level of interest. I have a goal this year of focusing on books I already own in some capacity over library books. I want to pause my Audible Escape and KU memberships for a bit and discontinue an out of state library card that I buy.

message 38: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Mary wrote: "So I have a question. I read through the different card tasks. But can you only use books that also have a matching cover color? For example: every month will we have to focus on one cover color on..."

nope! each month the team will get a small number of coloured cards to fill. So the majority of the cards will always be without colour constraints :)

message 39: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments And you don't focus on just one colour throughout the month. It all depends on the cards the teams are dealt.

message 40: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Hopefully the UNO Pixie randomiser is less yellow this year! :)

Louise | 1282 comments I really enjoy UNO, I think this year will be my 4th. I pretty much exclusively play team challenges as a way to keep me out of a reading slump.
I pretty much read anything, not overly keen on Sci-Fi or Space Opera as I found out in wheel-a-Thon. Most looking forward to catching up on BDB

message 47: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1659 comments Hi all, I’m looking forward to Uno. I think I’ve played every year since 2017 so this will be my 4th year.

My favorite genres are fantasy, historical romance, and science fiction. I read a bit of everything except horror though.

I don’t really have any books that I’m looking forward to more than others. Like others have mentioned I really need to read the books on my book shelf. I’ve realized I find the due date from library books motivating, so I need to do something like that with the books I already have.

message 48: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Hello all!

My name is Kaley. This will be my fourth(?) year of UNO, I think. I can't quite remember what year I started. UNO was my first team challenge and it's what got me hooked. I've been in a few others since then (Tower Teams and Wheelathon over in the Nothing But Reading Challenges group).

My favorite genre really changes based on my mood! I'd say most often I'm somewhere in the young adult/new adult/contemporary romance zone, but I love a good mystery/thriller now and again. I'm usually not too picky, with a few exceptions.

I actually don't think I have a set list of books I want to read for 2020 yet... which is sad! I need to go make a list. :-P I am looking forward to reading the rest of the Outlander series (I read the first book recently), but I probably won't be doing that during this challenge.
