Challenge Help
Friends, I need help with a couple of categories on a challenge I'm hosting on my blog.
Do you know any books that fit these categories?
1. plus-size lead
2. self-confidence (theme)
3. personal library (in story)
4. ballerina character
I like historical, contemporary, romance, women's fiction, suspense, mystery, and time slip genres.

The Italian Ballerina by Kristy Cambron
Thanks, friends! I'll check into those and see which ones my library might have (if I don't already have a copy sitting in my Kindle).
Please keep the recommendations coming if you think of others. Thanks!

Bonus points if it's set on a ranch or a farm!
Does anyone have any suggestions for a book with a cross, steeple, Bible, or church on the cover?

Thanks, Lynnette! 🙂

The Year of Jubilee by Cindy Morgan has a church on the cover. 5 stars. The MC is a young girl who experiences hardship, tragedy, and changes around her during the Civil Rights Movement. It's a story of friendship and forgiveness and redemption and so much more!
This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti has a church on the front! This one speaks for itself!

I finished these this year.

So, I need to read a book about a group of friends, and the one I originally picked isn't quite fitting the bill (it's about one character who makes a variety of friends along the way, but the interactions are all pretty much one-on-one rather than a group 'setting'). Anyone got any ideas for me? 🙂

Ladies of the Lake

I haven't read the book but I thought if I needed a book about a group of friends, that was the one I was thinking of reading.
That's the one I was going to suggest as well! I'm hoping it's a good one. It looks so cheerful with those bright colors!
Ok . . . here's a question to piggyback off my last one . . . what constitutes a group of friends? I'm reading Authentically Izzy
right now, and Izzy, Luke, and Penelope (along with Josephine, to some extent), while cousins, appear to also be a quite delightful friend group.

I’ll leave the decision to the admins, because I have no idea the correct answer. However, I will say that growing up my very best friends were my cousins. I think cousins make the best friends!
I agree, Lynette! Some of my most treasured memories growing up are hanging out on Sunday evenings with my cousins at our grandparents' home! And, to this day, there's a set of paternal cousins from one of the families that are more like sisters to me.

I would also recommend

Thanks, Lauri! I'd heard about that one, but for some silly reason, I hadn't put it on my TBR list yet! So, even if I don't end up using it for a challenge, I'll definitely be reading it at some point!

if the inside of a church counts I highly recommend

A great Christmas read (or anytime)

thanks, Lauri! (side note, mods, especially Andrea, does the inside of a church count for 'space' number 17 in the library 'board game' challenge?)
Friend Group
If the cousins are well defined as and interact as friends throughout the book, I'm fine with accepting them as a friend group for such a category.
Church
If the image is very obviously the inside of a church (as the cover Lauri shared is), then I will accept it for that category of the library adventure game. I hadn't thought of the inside of a church as an option, but I think that is a fantastic interpretation of the task. Great find!

I love thinking outside the box with regards to interpreting tasks! Sometimes I'm better at it than others. 😉

the only one I can think of is a hurricane, not a tropical storm, unfortunately . . . sorry, Crystal . . . I hope someone has a great recommendation for you!

Tropical storm is the only one I still need also!
Thanks, Paula! We’re trying to keep up with them. Goodreads has a bug at the moment where I’ve been unable to remove the spammers from the group, so I appreciate the help in spotting the messages that can slip through.
I still haven't gotten around to the coffee-shop romance category of Genre Surprise. Any suggestions for books set in a coffee shop that feature romance? I'm a fan of emotional books like those from Katherine Reay, Nicole Deese, Kathryn Cushman, Kim Vogel Sawyer, and Christina Suzann Nelson, to give you an idea of the depth I like in books. Not a real big fan of fluffy, light books. Thanks!

You've likely already read it, but Katherine Reay's Of Literature and Lattes would work well for a 'coffee shop romance'.

For the library game challenge, am I to assume that for spot 16, as long as a 'church service' type of event takes place in the book, it wouldn't necessarily matter if the event actually took place in a church building? Or, does it need to be in an actual chapel/house church (as in an Amish wedding)?
Correct. Any wedding, funeral, revival, or Sunday/Wednesday church service works; the building itself doesn’t matter.
Awesome, thanks! I encountered a christening in a castle (the baby christened was a princess) in the book I am currently reading and thought to clarify.
Looking for recommendations for novels or novellas that feature teachers. A governess or tutor works too. Thank you!
