Kristie, how did the Grand Canyon look? Did you get to step out onto that extension bridge?

It was amazing! It is so much more impressive in real life than you can imagine from pictures. We did a helicopter tour that flies over it and a hummer tour, which would be similar to a bus tour. The hummer stays on the main roads, but stops at good viewing sites. It was a lot of fun. We did not go out on the Skywalk because we weren't really close to it. We are thinking that we may go back some day and do that. Plus, we want to go into the basin for a river tour and to see the Native American historical parts.
We went to the Grand Canyon for the first time in March (south rim) and I know what you mean about how impressive it is. It was actually kind of emotional seeing it. I am glad you had a great time. BYW Thanks for managing this discussion group. I don't comment much but I do read people's posts.
Thanks, Jen! That's kind of you to say. This was also my first time there and we were also on the south rim. :) I also felt it was emotional, awe-inspiring.

My dad works for a university. They refurbish and sell off surplus computers for cheap, So we will visit and save some cash that way.

I agree with you Leona and I agree with you Leona and thanks Groovy and thanks Groovy and I agree with you Tammy
Oh man the snafu we had getting our new computer up and running. It is refurbished, formerly used by the university where my dad works. The original model however does not have a built in wi-fi adapter and was not compatible with one. Therefore, we had to hard wire it to get it going. It is awesome, though, because we now have a working computer...meaning I can totally nerd out before or after work, on my days off! This does not stink!

Absolutely! I spent a good few hours last night playing catch up. Did more this morning when I woke up and did some more discussion questions. I also managed to begin my next book, which I am now 40 pages in on.

It has ben raining here for a week. I was at my limit yesterday with the gloomy weather, just wanted to stay in bed. But today the sun has finally peeked out! Thank goodness. I'm loving it. :)
We've been inundated with rain and thunderstorms for almost 2 weeks now. We have a storm coming tomorrow. After that, it's 90 degrees of sunshine. My garden loves the rain though.
We ended up having a storm pass through today, but fortunately it didn't linger. It's supposed to be sunny and high temps here tomorrow too. Most of my garden has loved the rain, but my poor raspberries definitely look like they could use some extra sunshine, just like me. :)
I finally got rain yesterday for the first time in about a month. It keeps passing me.I am crocheting a Granny square blanket (actually 3 of them) and I have already made some of the squares with a color of over 90*.
I'm a crocheter too, Leona. I crochet baby blankets and mostly give them away as gifts. Crocheting is sooo relaxing and the end results are beautiful. I know yours will be.
I just started crocheting about a year ago. I made a baby blanket out of granny squares about 25 years ago and then put it aside so long that I completely forgot how to do it. I've made a few blankets as gifts since then and a couple of other items as well - fingerless gloves, scarves, Christmas ornaments, and baskets. I'm really enjoying it. I've started a couple of larger blankets, but keep putting them aside for smaller, faster items.
I feel for those who are in the tornado and hgh heat areas. We are going to have 80s this week. The Granny square blanket is a temperature blanket and I am using where I live in Minnesota. I did two a few years ago, one for my daughter in Minnesota and one for my granddaughtr in Ft. Worth. It is easier to do these 3 than the 2 seperate areas.
I won another book from GR. I am trying to finish one this week that I won so I can do the review.
I guessed at the temperature blanket based on the 90*+ color, Leona. I love those and wanted to do one, but don't crochet consistently enough. I decided to try a reading scarf. It's the same concept, but smaller (scarf vs blanket) and based on my reading instead of the weather. I thought it would be easier to keep up with, but I'm still way behind. We're expecting more storms this evening. My grand is only visiting for a little over three weeks this year and we have been stuck inside most of the time so far. So frustrating! Now it is expected to be hot and stormy. So it is either 90*F and super humid or having thunder storms. I really hope we have some decent weather during the times we have things planned. We kept pumping him up about all the fun stuff we have planned for his shorter visit this summer and so far we haven't done anything really.
I've been crocheting for years and have never heard of a temperature blanket or reading scarf. You learn something new every day.Kristie, maybe y'all can do some fun indoor stuff while your grandson is visiting. I know just having him there is fun enough for you:)
We've been playing board / card games and playing Wii. That sort of thing. So, we're still having a good time, but he loves being active. So he wants to go play catch or pickleball or ride his bike. We have a couple of beach trips and outdoor day trips planned. Hoping for good weather st least those days. :) We do love having him here.
Hope you get good weather and he can enjoy the outdoors.I have never heard of a reading scarf and I do a lot of reading.
On my Granny square temp blankets, I make the first round the low temp of the day, the second round has the high temp of the day, and the third round is the main color that connets the squares and I also use for the border. I am using white but I have seen it done with black and that is pretty. I also make a square of white to seperate each month. The pattrn came for Fiber Flux. She has high of the day, the first round but I changed mine and I changed some of her colors.
We are in an air quality alert again until Thursday because of the fires in Canada. I feel for the people who live in the areas of the fires. I had lunch with my kids and 3 granddaughters yesterday. One of the girls had a birthday and she is now 23.
I went to 2 thrift stores looking for audio books which I could not find.
Rain today.
Have a good day.
If I'm not mistaking, Leona, I think we live in the same state--TN. I live in a neighborhood surrounded by mountains, and you can see the haze hovering in them. I have bronchitis and I am coughing more, and sometimes my breathing feels constricted. So everyone be careful. It's so nice to spend time with family. I'm glad you enjoyed your day. And that's why I LOVE Amazon and online shopping. I'm too old and tired to go to 2 or 3 different stores looking for stuff--LOL!
I am in Minnesota but I know the haze is all over now.I went shopping with my daughter yesterday after we had lunch and it is a reminder I need to get on my treadmill more.
Travis- How is the computer working for you? I know you were having problems.
For the reading scarf - I do a different stitch based on format (audio=single, ebook=half double, and physical=double).
Different colors are based on genres (eg. mystery=blue, romance=pink, etc). I just choose the top genre, since books often overlap.
Then, I do 1 row per 100 pages. So, if a book is up to 100 pages, I stitch one row. For 101-200 pages, 2 rows, etc.
So, for example if I read a paperback book in the Historical Fiction genre and it was 324 pages, I would add 4 rows of double crochet in green. I am reading more than I expected this year and think I am going to have a super long scarf (If I ever finish it!). lol I may have to split it into two scarves. haha
We are going to be in Tennessee for 4th of July weekend! :) We'll be in Sevierville at the Wilderness at the Smokies waterpark/resort. Hoping we have good weather.
Sevierville is beautiful. I hope you enjoy it. It'll be hot, though.I love the reading scarf idea. This is the first I've heard of it and a temperature blanket.
I have always enjoyed my trips to the Sevierville, Pidgeon Forge, and Gatlinburg areas. Hope you have fun.
Thanks. :) We're looking forward to it. I've only been to the area one other time many years ago when my daughter toured the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville.

There is a lady on You Tube I watch (nonna rosanna) and she crochets each month the colors from a book cover. I really like both of the ideas. Thanks for the info.
I am trying to play catch-up on the temp blankets so I can do some other needlework.
That's the problem with making something based off something else. It is so easy to fall behind. I am just keeping a list that I check off as I go and will get to it when I can. Thanks, Leona! I think it will be a lot of fun.

I’m sorry I haven’t talked to everyone and it’s because I’ve been so busy this summer and I’m going on vacation on August 12th through August 19th with my whole family
