Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) I must admit, I love audiobooks. Now, I still love having a book in my hand, but when I can't, audiobooks are great. I listen to them when I'm outside/inside doing chores and can't physically sit down and hold a book and "read". I would rather listen to an audiobook than to have the tv on for just background noise. I even prefer to listen to an audiobook, most of the time, over music. I get aggravated if I have to put my book down, go do chores, and then come back to my book LOL especially if I am at a plot twist etc. Just take it right along with me and keep listening. : )

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) I haven't stopped in here much of late. Mainly just long enough to post my UNO books. I hope everyone is doing well.

Kristie how are things going for you and your mom. I hope recovery for her is going as well as expected : )

Groovy!!!!! I got my new car tag lol and it was awesome not having to sit 30 mins to an hour in emissions : ) How are you loving this awesome weather?

I hope you all are getting ready for all the gardening!!! Summer is right around the corner.

Things here have been a little hectic. Doing things for my parents. And then I had my 2 grandsons the last 5 days because son and DIL had some things going on. So now I'm tired and wore out LOL but glad I got to have them and spend time with them.

message 1153: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I also love audiobooks. I listen to them when I am driving or doing a puzzle or whenever I can. I love that I can multitask because I don't have as much time as I'd like to sit down and just read. I do also still like a physical book. My Kindle is really convenient for bringing a lot of books with me when I travel and for NetGalley, which I love, but I actually prefer a paper book when I can. Basically, I enjoy reading however I can in whatever format best fits my current situation. lol

Kristie | 5928 comments Thanks, Robin! Good to see you. :) Things are going well here. They were a bit hectic for a while, but going pretty smoothly now I think. *knocks on wood*

Mom had a reaction to one of the pain meds the rehab gave her after her surgery so she was uncomfortable for a few days, but she is doing much better now and the knee is healing really well. Thank you for asking!

I think I'm going to skip out on my garden this year, except for my berries which were 'hibernating' from last season. I don't think we will get any berries until next year because they take a couple of seasons to bear fruit, but I'm happy that they've started new growth again.

I completely understand being worn out from family things, but loving having them and being able to spend time with them. lol How nice that you got some time with your grandsons. Were you able to do anything special while you were together?

message 1155: by Robin (Saturndoo) (last edited Apr 24, 2022 08:39PM) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) YASSSS Kristie, I'm totally with you on the audiobooks. I sit and play all my little games on my phone while listening to books LOL At night when I finally settle down, done with all electronics, and in bed, that's when I really get the chance to pick up an actual bound copy of a book. If I had to depend on just physical books, my reading would probably be slim to none most days.

It's good to see you as well : ) Kristie!!!! And you're more than welcome. I have had you and your mom on my mind but things have just been so busy. I was determined that after I took the kids home I was going to make the time to check in on you. I'm glad things are going well for her despite the medication issue. Any idea of when you may get to return home?

I don't blame you for skipping the garden this year. You are having a busy time right now and I'm sure when you get home there will be lots of things you need to catch up on and REST for your own health and mental well being. Sometimes I think vacations and other reasons we have to be away are more work/stress than being home dealing with every day problems LOL

I didn't get to see them on Easter so they got their Easter stuff when they got here. They both got a Fisher Price Trike and the weather was gorgeous the whole time they here so we played outside a lot : ) Other than that, they just enjoy hanging out here. I'm sure that will all change the older they get LOL We normally go to the park but with the new trikes they didn't want to go.

Kristie | 5928 comments Mom is back home now and I'm home as well. Fortunately, everything is going well for her and she is able to get around now. She has a lot of friends in her building to help her when needed and a physical therapist and visiting nurse that come in to work with her too, so she doesn't need me there any more.

I'll be heading back up that way to pick up our grandson for the summer the end of June, so I'll get to visit with everyone while I'm there again. I love that. :)

Sounds like you had a really fun visit. I love when we get to spend laid back time with our grand too. Cute trikes! I'm sure they enjoyed those a lot!

message 1157: by Groovy (last edited Apr 25, 2022 12:11PM) (new)

Groovy Lee Robin, I agree. It is soooo wonderful just buying the tags and that's it. Where my daughter works, all she has to do is go downstairs and purchase the tags. We love that.

I'm loving this weather now even though it rains a lot. Which is good for the garden. I've got a lot of it to do. Winter is over!! Yessss!! And I get to sit outdoors late at night and sky-watch. Are you doing any gardening? Or just enjoying leisure time? I'm glad you got to spend time with your grandsons. Those are always the best times. Those Trikes are soooo cute:)

Kristie, I'm glad your mom is doing better. And I know you'll so looking forward to your grandson spending the summer with you:) This always remind me of my relationship with my grandmother. Good memories.

I hope everybody is doing as well, also, and looking forward to summer.

message 1158: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Awesome Kristie!!! Glad you are home and mom is home as well : ) It's nice to be needed but also nice when not lol. OH YEAH!!! How exciting that you are going back to visit and pick up your grandson! You'll have a blast with him this summer.

Thanks Kristie and Groovy!!! I wasn't even thinking about Trikes for the boys UNTIL Amazon sent me a notification that the price went down LOL Thanks Amazon for helping me spend some $. It's ok though, they will get plenty of enjoyment out of them this summer.

Did you see the freeze on car tag tax of $23.75 starting July 1, 2022 through June 30 2023? I'm even excited about that LOL Oh yes, I would love just running downstairs to buy tags too. Last year, we used the kiosk at the rec center which took all of 3 mins, but since we had to get the new plate this year we had to go stand in line. Surprisingly, it only took about 25 mins and it was super busy.

No, I'm not doing any gardening except maybe some flowers in the front flower bed. I would love to have a vegetable garden but there just isn't enough space here, especially since we have a big dog. My mom would stroke out if I took up even half of her back yard for a garden LOL I might get some pots and do a few tomato plants but that will be about it. So, I'm just enjoying the leisure time. Thank goodness we have the two fruit stands : ) Although with the price of everything going UP UP UP, I'm curious to see what the cost of fresh vegetables will be.

I have to go tomorrow and watch the grands so I will have another full day. Hopefully after that I will get some much needed rest time. I did make a trip to the library today for a couple hours. I see way to many books I want to read and it's difficult to choose which ones LOL because I will never be able to read them all.

I hope you all had a great day and an even better one tomorrow. If I don't check in tomorrow I will see you all again on Wednesday : )

message 1159: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments That's what I usually do for my garden, Robin. I put a few pots on my porch. In recent years I've added several pots though and I was running out of porch space! I'm going to try to enjoy my porch a little more this year.

I also struggle with choosing which books to read. I have so many that I'm interested in and definitely not enough time to read them all. It's so hard to decide which to prioritize!

Have fun with the grands!

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Hello everybody!!! I finally made it home.

I was supposed to babysit the grands today but on my way there this morning DIL called said she was having problems with her eye again. So I went and took her to the eye Dr. But I sitll got to visit with the kids : )

YASSSS Kristie!!! Enjoy your porch. It's a great place to relax and read a book : ) Sometimes I wish authors wrote shorter books so I could get more of them read, but then we would be compromising the greatness of the longer stories. Shorter doesn't always mean better LOL I just keep adding to the TBR mountain and selecting books the best I can. The exact reason I don't hesitate to DNF a book I'm not enjoying.

OH yeah, Sonya. The price of food is ridiculous but they know they have us by the nose because it's a necessity. I try to be a budget shopper and get the best deals but that can get very time consuming. I don't run around to multiple stores just to get a cheaper price on one or two items but will IF it's multiple items.

I have multiple TBR lists. One here, on my library account, in random spiral notebooks it's absurd. The only way I can make a dent in them is if I quit adding more but we all know that won't happen LOL

I'm super tired and ready to rest. Although it's only 7:40 pm I think I'm going to get ready for bed and curl up in bed with some library books. If I end up going to sleep early that will be ok too.

I hope you all have a great evening!!! It was chilly here today. A great evening to just curl up with a cozy blanket and some good books :)

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments Hi Bookish Friends...
I try to keep up with the chat, but lately I've been feeling like slowing down a bit on the speed of my reading and I've been wanting to get more involved in crafts. I bought my son's a Latch Hook Kit to work on and I bought a diamond art kit to try. I feel like my boys and I spend so much time on technology, either videogames or cellphones. Tomorrow is my youngest son's (my baby) birthday and he will be 14 years old! Time goes by so fast it seems...

message 1165: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Yes, Robin! Sometimes I choose a book just because it's a little shorter and I can read it faster, then it feels like I've accomplished something. lol I tend to read a lot of longer books. Though I do have a couple on my TBR that are super long and I keep putting them off because I could read three books in the amount of time it would take me to finish that one.

I understand that Jojo. I've recently taken up watercolor and crochet. I'm enjoying them both. We aren't cheating on our reading if we enjoy other activities!

Happy birthday to your baby!! My 'baby' will be 28 this summer. I'm not sure how that happened. lol

message 1166: by Robin (Saturndoo) (last edited Apr 28, 2022 05:52PM) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Hello friends, in the box , as my sons call it LOL

It's a beautiful day here. It's warm outside, the sun is shining, and the skies are blue : ) And what am I doing???? Sitting inside catching up on my reading challenges and listening to an audiobook. Making sure I have all my challenges updated, as it is the end of the month. Time to get ready for the May challenges : )

It's hard to believe May 1 will be Sunday. We are almost half way through the year. Where does time go? I swear the older I get, the faster time flies. Geesh!!!

Sometimes, I read shorter books too. Just to get a break from the longer books that can drag on forever. I rarely read the "doorstoppers" because of my challenges. I would rather read 3-4 books to fit my challenges than one BIG book.

How fun JoJo!!! I spend a lot of time on technology. But I also enjoy crafts. I remember doing latch hook and I also do diamond art. I crochet too Kristie : ) I'm a hooker and collect/hoard yarn and patterns lol

Happy Belated Birthday to your baby, JoJo!!! My "baby" will be 28 May 13th, which falls on a Friday again this year, Kristie. My oldest will be 32 December 7th. It's hard to believe they are getting that old : (

I hope you all have a fantastic day and are having fabulous weather!!

Happy Reading!!

message 1167: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I'm enjoying the weather too, Robin. Winter is gone!! Yes!! I'm trying to get all my planting in before the rain comes again this weekend. (I won't make it) And it is true, that the older you get, the quicker time flies. I can't believe it will be Friday tomorrow, I was just at the store Saturday!!

I have been crocheting since high school and love it.

My oldest will be 34. She thinks she's old. I would trade with her anytime.

I haven't even looked at the weather. But go figure, we have had nice sunny days so of course the rain will come. Time to get ready for some flooding. It usually happens every year on my mom's birthday May 7th.

Another crocheter : ) I started at age 7. My grandmother taught me and I've been doing it ever since. Fun,relaxing and making something useful.

Yes, I will trade ages with any of them LOL

message 1169: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Our children are the same ages, Robin! My oldest is 32 now. Groovy, I didn't realize your daughter was 34. Somehow I thought she was younger than that, not that 34 is old by any means. lol They don't know how good they have it!

Good luck getting your gardening in before the rain. I'm supposed to work outdoors Sunday. It was initially supposed to be beautiful out and now it is expected to rain. Oh well.

I've learned a little bit of crochet over the years, but then I don't use it and I forget it. I recently took a class and really learned. I'm now focusing on remembering what I learned through practice and learning to read patterns.

See we have more in common than just reading : ) IF you get stuck on your crocheting or have any questions feel free to ask me. I will help explain it to you or guide you to some great videos or sites that are excellent for beginners and even to those of us who have been doing it for a long time. There are now lots of "new" tips and tricks that I wish I had known YEARS ago but use now. And some things I learned years ago and still use today.

message 1171: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Thank you! I may take you up on that. :)

message 1172: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Kristie, I guess it's the way I describe her--LOL. Sometimes she'll resort back to her early 20's, but when a problem pops its head up, she'll step up to the plate as her true 34 year old self. And you're right, they don't know how good they have it. I remember when I was her age, I thought I was old too:)

Also a good thing to have on hand regarding crocheting is a beginners' book. I still have my first one from over 20 years ago. When I take long breaks from crocheting, I forget how to do certain stitches, and it's a big help. Do you have one?

And like Robin stated about videos, Youtube is a gold mine.

Have a safe weekend, Everybody. Be safe.

message 1173: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I do have a couple of beginner books, which I'm sure will be great to refer back to. The class was very helpful though in getting me started and helping me to interpret some of what I was reading. Sometimes I would read something and think, "that can't be right," but it turns out that certain stitches just don't always work go the way you think they will. So you do whatever weirdness the book tells you and it's right. lol

Yes, I agree. Keep a couple of beginner books hanging around OR get you one of those nice laminated stitch charts that most of the craft stores have. I have one and LOVE IT!!!! LOL yes sometimes it does seem all wrong and it's totally right, but other times it does seem wrong and it is wrong. Just keep practicing and it will become second nature to you. Especially when you get to the point when you can say, OH I can do granny squares and hats and blankest don't need to look at a pattern. You just do it and make it your own as you go. : )

message 1182: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Happy May friends : )

I can't believe it's already here. We had my youngest grandson's birthday party Sunday May 1st, but his birthday was April 30th. He had a great time. That got me to thinking, my mom's birthday is May 7th, mother's day May 8th, my youngest son's birthday is May 13th. Everything is just coming very quickly : ( Let us slow down and take time to smell the roses PLEASE lol

All our rose bushes are full of blooms. The peony bushes are full of blooms. Across the street, the azalea bushes are gorgeous. So I guess it's time for the wind/rain to come and beat them down : ( It happens every year just like clockwork.

How's everyone doing? Things are well here. I'm just enjoying the sunshine, doing my daily chores, and relaxing. I've been reading some smaller books and graphic novels. Those are my "palette cleansers", so to speak, in avoidance of a reading slump. I went to the library yesterday and picked up some books I'm excited about reading.

Uno is finished and I joined Tower Teams to keep me busy and reading but I'm not sure how that's going to go. I remember playing TT years ago when it first started LOL but that's about all I remember. Getting old doesn't play nicely with the memory : )

I hope all is well with all of you and look forward to hearing what y'all have been up to.

message 1183: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I'm glad things are going well with you, Robin. Sunshine! What part of TN are you in? It's been raining almost every day here in Nashville, like now, which is good because my bushes are growing and flowering.

(Miracle Grow Shake 'n Feed, Everybody) That stuff WORKS! I had a pathetic, dying twig growing out of the ground. I was about to rip it up. But I fed it some Shake 'n Feed and within a week, it doubled in size. All of my bushes are thriving because of it.

I'm going to have to put reading on hold for now. My goal is to find a good suspense author, or discover new genres, and dive into it. But I've got so many projects hanging over me. RELAXING! What's that?--LOL! I wish.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Hello Friends!!!!

I have missed stopping by and chatting with all of you. I hope this finds you all doing well. Happy Belated Mother's day to all the mothers out there.

I think I have been doing a little too much for everyone else lately and NOT giving myself enough free time LOL I had my 2 grandsons again the weekend of May 13th because that's my youngest son's birthday. So, they(without the kids) went out of town. My son got sick with a terrible ear infection and came home that Sunday sick.

End of last week I had my oldest grandson AGAIN because he caught a skin staph infection at Head Start. So, he came to my house to stay a few days while he was contagious so the other kids/family members didn't catch it. He went home Tuesday.

And of course, in the mean time, I'm still taking care of my parents and every day life chores.

I hope all of you are doing well and getting in lots of quality reading time with good books : )

message 1198: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Oh that's a lot, Robin. I hope you find some time to relax this weekend.

My hubby and I have been sanding all the old stain off our porch and we are almost done and able to stain it a lighter color. We had a lower deck added on and wanted it all to match. (The old stain was so ugly.) That has been a lot of work, but I'm so glad that we are almost done. I think it's going to look so good.

Four more weeks until our grandson comes to visit and he will be here for 8 weeks! We are busy putting together plans to keep him entertained. :)
